Lactational amenorrhea - can periods just stop several months after they have returned?

Been bf for a year now. Periods came back when DS was 7 months and have been regular as clockwork since then. DS feeds first thing, normally once in the afternoon, before bed, and once in the night.

My period is now 10 days late. I thought I was pg - we are TTC, but four tests have been negative.

I just wondered if it's possible for lactational amenorrhea to resume. I would love to be pregnant, but not sure how much hope there is.

Sounds unlikely. Do you know when you ovulated? Pregnancy does indeed sound the most likely cause... or maybe christmas stress?

How old is ds?

thisisyesterday · 22/12/2011 16:17

erm no, i don't think so

far more likely to be pregnant IMO!

But why the negative tests though? Would love it to be true, but surely there would be enough hcg to get a positive test by 10 days overdue?

Don't know when I ovulated, not charting or anything like that. DS turns one next week!

If you use the advanced search function you'll find lots of anecdotes of people who didn't get a positive test result early on. Sometimes that might mean the hormone levels are low and something's up. Others it just seems to be one of those things. What sort of tests did you use? Some are more sensitive than others. Also what time of day did you do them?

I used a pack of three cheapo Asda sticks last week (£1.44, bargain!) and then splashed out (excuse the pun) on a Clearblue yesterday. Still got one left. Thought I would wait another few days. Did them at various times of day

I conceived while BF and got three different results, one negative, one unreadable and one positive. I got one of those digital ones in the end. Good luck!

I had negative tests at 9 weeks with dd. They ended up scanning me and found her bobbing about happy as anything.... just had no hormones in my urine or blood. My mother had the same with me.

Both boys I was able to get +ive tests but with ds1 it was faint at 8 weeks (was feeding and hadn't had periods so didn't realise until that stage!)

That's fantastic news, congrats Grin There's a thread on BF and pregnancy here.

It hasn't been mentioned on this thread yet so here is The Book that you need to buy Grin or you could borrow it from your local LLL group if there's one nearby.
