I know bf babies don't need water but would it hurt to give it?

DS is 4 months and will happily take a bottle of expressed milk but to keep making sure he takes one I try and express about once a week with the hope he won't start to reject a bottle. I hardly ever need to give him one but I like the fall back of knowing I can.

I find it a faff to express and wondered if I could try cooled boiled water in a bottle now and again to just keep up with the bottle, rather than expressing when I don't need to. Would it hurt?

As far as I know, giving a 4 month old the odd sip of water from a cup will do no harm. The danger would be of you were offering enough water to supplement a feed. This would simply fill your baby up with water which has no nutritional value.

This is what http://www.kellymom.com/nutrition/solids/baby-water.html kellymom says.
