POSITIVE portrayal of BFing on telly/film - examples?

For me Friends would be the shining beacon - both when Carol had Ben, and when Rachel had Emma. They made it funny and took the piss a bit (like when Ross had to drink the breastmilk) but IMO it was so NORMAL within the episodes that it showed BFing as normal? If that makes sense.

Also I don't know what the general view of Family Guy is on MN, I love it, and even though most 'controversial' issues are done in a shocking way, I liked the times they've mentioned BFing - there is an episode where Lois tries to wean Stewie, already 1 yo by then.

So, any other positive examples? Thought it'd be nice to share as usually I only see complaints about programmes that handle it badly.

:)

Peep Show - with Jez using Sophie's "luxury milk" for his coffee.

spinaltap · 30/01/2011 14:12

Peep Show was quite good recently where there were bottles of expressed milk left in the fridge for the baby and because there was no cow's milk left Jez wanted to use the 'luxury' milk for his tea!

spinaltap · 30/01/2011 14:12

Snap!

Cosmosis · 30/01/2011 15:02

Everybody loves Raymond, they don't show it but often mention her BFing the twins.

Cosmosis · 30/01/2011 15:02

they don't show it because they're weaned by then not because she disappears off to do it!

marzipananimal · 30/01/2011 17:18

i agree about friends with carol and ben but i didn't like the scene with rachel and emma (and joey) much

gaelicsheep · 30/01/2011 17:20

Meet The Fockers - weird, but love it

Marley & Me - hardly anything, except Jennifer Aniston having a postnatal meltdown - very realistic - and going to open top when asking baby if he wants food. Just normal, just as it should be.

The Office USA had a plot recently where a main character breastfed her newborn. And Miranda from SATC breastfed, although I think they discussed how grim her boobs were now? Not sure.

In Ponyo (lovely film), she tries to feed the baby some soup and the mum says that the baby has her milk but if she could have some soup then the baby will get the goodness from it Smile.

cfc · 30/01/2011 21:17

I loved that episode of peep show with the luxury milk, so funny!

Also, Family Guy, though weird when Peter tries to bf Stewie, hilarious too!

SATC was good, as it showed what it can be like, a stressed miranda, full of milk, trying to get the baby latched on.

Not in the movies, or tv - but an Ahlberg book we're reading at the mo from the library called Baby's Catalogue - it shows baby's food, and a bfeeding child. Nice.

Shameless is also surprisingly pro-bf (or breast milk anyway!).

PenguinArmy · 02/02/2011 02:58

I love the weaning attempt in family guy and also when stewie offered brian the middle of the night mummy still asleep feed Grin

can't think of any new examples though Blush

elvisgirl · 02/02/2011 04:03

Last year I think it was, Emmerdale had a character coping with criticism of bf in public at her local cafe, but it was all done in a rather twee soapland way. I recall the programme also mentioned bf-ing when there was a baby mix-up story - the babies were about 9mths old I think so it was a bit different as usually it is just newborns.

Udderly · 02/02/2011 04:41

Kourtney Kardashian on Kourtney & Khloe take Miamii (one of my guilty pleasures Blush )
On one episosde she comes in and pumps n dumps after a night out, also tests her bm with a little strip the next day to see if there was alcohol still left in it. I remember being very impressed with her breastpump!
I can't remember if she is shown actually bfing on the show. AFAIK she fed for a year.

IslandIsla · 02/02/2011 12:55

In Neighbours (is it embarrassing to admit I watch it??!!) Bridget (teen mum) breastfed her baby girl and it came in handy when they got lost out in the bush or something. Bridget died when baby young (cruel soap storyline!) and there was a sad bit about 'using the last of Bridget's milk' that she had expressed.

cfc · 02/02/2011 13:15

In Emerdale, Nicola was having trouble with her little one feeding, and I remember Heather in EE also bf?

Also in Corrie, when Tyrone and Molly were breaking up at the end he asked her if she wanted a bottle of wine that night with dinner (or something) and she mentioned she was bf. He replied "it's ok in moderation" and the next minute she'd been crushed by a tram! I always felt for that poor baby suddenly being dragged from the breast to the bottle (I know it's not real...).

nymphadora · 02/02/2011 13:36

My first thought was family guy Blush but you've all made me sad for the poor babies losing mummies Blush

nymphadora · 02/02/2011 14:53

Just watching last nights shameless. Mimi with a breast pump :)

LLKH · 03/02/2011 19:39

An old one, but in Clash of the Titans the beginning of the Perseus grows up montage is him bfing from Danae. Just a normal natural part of growing up.

MummyBerryJuice · 03/02/2011 19:57

Although I have to admit that it is weird for a man to bf a baby I was talking to DH about somethin Palmer says in 'The Politics of Breastfeeding' about men in certaintribes offering their nipples to the babies to try and calm them and he admitted to trying to get DS to latch on when I wasn't around and he was distressed.

I thought that that was rather sweet. Not that DS would have any of it apparently. He knew that there was no juicy milk Grin!!!

FutureNannyOgg · 03/02/2011 21:29

Ds often tries to latch on to his dad. We keep telling him beard=no milk, but he's not getting it.

NotQuiteCockney · 03/02/2011 21:41

The Hangover had a v positive portrayal of breastfeeding, particularly as the mum in question was not a lentil-weaving sort.

And The Office USA plot was good, although she used a hooter-hider, and it was treated as normal ...

NoTeaForMe · 03/02/2011 22:21

Has anybody read the Katie Morag childrens books? In most of them there is a picture of the Mom breastfeeding the baby. In at least one of them she is sat on the sofa with her breast out with the baby next to her, The picture makes her nipple look a bit hairy which is off putting!!!! From memory I think she is still breastfeeding when the baby looks a bit older.

YankNCock · 03/02/2011 22:29

Another old example, in 'The Blue Lagoon' they are trying to feed their newborn baby fruit because they have no idea what to do with a baby. Brooke Shields is holding the baby to her chest, trying to stop it crying, and suddenly baby latches on. The characters look quite surprised but pleased that the baby is finally not crying!

If only it were that easy....

elvisgirl · 04/02/2011 04:30

Oh I just remembered The Last Emperor. Didn't they show the boy emperor drinking breastmilk from a nanny aged about 9yrs old?
