He needs 2 7oz feeds during the day but i am hoping to reduce his lunchtime feeds as his solids increase.
BEen back at work properly only one week but am having to express during every feed and every time on my day off to get enough.
my boobs hurt

Savanna - thanks for this. I've emailed work to see what they can offer but as space is a premium, I can see that I'll either be in the loos or in the carpark. But I will continue to bug them. I think I'm the first returning mum to ask for this - so fingers crossed that they provide me with something suitable. I'd like to express until dd is 1 yr, so they'd only have to provide the room for 3.5 mths, 4 days a week - and it's not like I'd be in there all day......!

popsycal · 20/10/2005 19:45

ooh how excting!!!

Alux I got your CAT!
Karma - I wok near tynemouth!
Shivs - when were you at the poly? I was at the uni.....but ex boyf was at the poly so I hung out there more!

Popsycal - was at the poly from 92-96 (with my 3rd yr in France). Were you around then?

Have been in touch with a fairly local hospital re donating some milk for their milk bank. Fortunately I can be a bit of a dairy cow at times so might be able to give some of my excess, rather than fill up my freezer. Anyone else done this?

popsycal · 20/10/2005 19:59

shivs....I was there from 93-96.......

karmamother · 21/10/2005 18:05

What a small world. I'm a little older than you two & I didn't do the poly thing...was at nurse training school. Mind you, I think the Doctor's residence parties would have given the Students Union ones a run for their money. Very debauched, if my memory serves me right.

popsycal · 21/10/2005 20:57

Very bizarre expressing experience today
forgot the suction part of my pump at work so couldnt pump until 3:30......got erm...11oz!
Whats that all about!

Also managed to get the let down reflecx going 3 times by doing lots of short fast squeezes as the flow slowed down

half term anyway so time for getting that freezer stocked up again

creepmonkey · 21/10/2005 22:21

Popsy, 11oz!!! Am well impressed!

mummyhill · 23/10/2005 07:22

sitting here pumping and thought i would pop in for some advice. Have a tender spot on left breast any ideas/advice?

alux · 23/10/2005 07:30

blocked duct? can't really say as I have not had this problem before. why don't you go to kellymom.com and search.

SpikeMomma · 23/10/2005 14:27

Bonjour all. Quick question: when you express which booby do you put them on afterwards?! I always forget! Is it the one you expressed from or the one they are due on?! Or does it not really matter?

jabberwitchy · 23/10/2005 14:32

popsycal, that's totally normal for when you miss a session. Makes you want to moo, doesn't it

jabberwitchy · 23/10/2005 14:34

mummyhill, it probably is just a blocked duct. As long as you continue to feel okay otherwise I would continue to pump as usual.I had it two or three times and more pumping seems to be the way to go with that.

If it starts to get red and hot feeling and you get flu-like symptoms, that is more likely mastitis and needs antibiotics.

creepmonkey · 23/10/2005 16:53

Love your Halloween name, JW!

jabberwitchy · 23/10/2005 19:14

Thanks cm! It's the first time I've gone for the holiday name change. It is fun, isn't it? Yours is cute, too, I might add

mummyhill · 23/10/2005 22:56

Thanks jabberwitchy will follow your useful advice.

franch · 25/10/2005 15:31

Can I join? Just about to start expressing for DD2. Pumped daily for DD1 from 3 weeks, mainly so that DH could do last feed of the day. Will prob only do it on a much more ad hoc basis this time to enable me to go out occasionally. Only hope DD2 will take to a bottle OK. Going to hairdressers on Thu so will find out then ......

Just wondering, do any of you mix EBM expressed at different times of day? e.g. would you top up your morning bottle with milk expressed later in the day? Never did this last time and will prob just use the little freezer bags again this time, but would be interested to know.

Also those of you mainly feeding direct from the breast, when do you express? I used to do it in the evening with DD1 but now don't have the time. Thinking the best way might be to pump from one breast while feeding DD2 from the other.

mummyhill · 25/10/2005 19:00

welcome franch - have missed you on septembers thread, it has been quite busy over there. Everyone is worried about RZ we haven't heard from her yet any ideas?

popsycal · 25/10/2005 20:18

franch about topping up the bottles...
I collect the days 'expressions' to make up bottle for the next day....I express into a new bottle each time. Once it has been in the fridge and the milk is the same temperature, it is ok to mix it,..
for example, I might get 3 oz in the morning and 3oz in the evening. the next day, they will go in the same bottle after having been in the fridge....
does that make sense?
you shouldnt express fresh milk onto chilled milk though

OP posts:
popsycal · 25/10/2005 20:21

also about expressing and when....
I work 4 days per week so I express once at work which makes one feed for the next day....
the rest of the time, I express when I get in at around 4:30 and usually give ds2 a brief feed to get it flowing, then I express at about 9:30 or sometimes when I feed him at 10:00 ish....sometimes I express at themonring feed too.

Does your baby feed much in the night? If not, then express while giving baby the first feed of the day ....you will get loads.
No such luck for me...my boobs are drained in the morning!!!

OP posts:
jabberwitchy · 25/10/2005 23:38

franch, after the first week I stopped writing the time and only put the date on EBM and freely mixed one day with another.

creepmonkey · 26/10/2005 01:48

I try to give the oldest milk first but I do mix them.

franch · 26/10/2005 15:08

Thanks for all the answers about mixing - makes sense. I expressed a bit yesterday afternoon while feeding DD2, then again first thing this morning - the latter seems a good way. Will find out tomorrow if she'll take a bottle, when I go off to the local hairdressers!

Sorry I havent been around on the sept thread for a while mummyhill - no time!! Only seem to manage to post specific queries these days rather than chatting ... No idea about RZ, sadly - I do hope she pops up soon.

KiwiKate · 27/10/2005 09:39

Hi Frach - was thinking about you yesterday. Missing you from the sept thread. Glad to hear that you are well.
(sorry to crash this thread)

popsycal · 31/10/2005 20:48

OP posts:
yingers74 · 31/10/2005 22:07
