My 16week old baby has started to fuss at breast after 5mins, she pulls away upset, fussing then looks for it again but pulls away after a few seconds doing the same. I have tried winding her then putting her back on but she still fusses even if done huge burp!

She still bf every 2hrs in day which is tiring in itself but even more so now its a struggle. Anyone else had the same problem?

It's normal for babies to get more distractible at around 4 months. It's to do with them becoming more sociable & aware of the world around them.

Kellymom has some advice here and here.

It often happens again around 8-10 months - my 9 m.o. is currently doing it.

It can also be related to a growth spurt.

Have you tried switch feeding as first few minutes on the breast is strongest flow and switching can help baby still interested/focused.

What monster said.

I had the same problem with mine, I was only giving her one boob per feed but started giving both and found she would accept second boob after the first one was rejected. Think I was feeding every 2 hours at that point too but managed to stretch it out to every 3 pretty soon after so there is hope. Smile

Maybe she's not hungry? DS also does this when he's tired rather than hungry - he seems eager but won't stay on, if i offer a dummy and a cuddle instead he usually drops off!

Thanks for website info angeldog :-)

Have tried offering other boob but no luck :-(

Tallbirduk I have tried to give her a dummy as sometimes I know shes not hungry just tired but she wont take one.

Hopefully its just one of those things they do for a whie then snap out of!
