Short story recommendations

A friend is recovering from an operation and I would like to send her a book to distract her during her recovery. She is having problems concentrating because of the pain so is only reading short stories. Can anyone recommend a good book of short stories? Authors I know she likes are Agatha Christie and Tess Gerritson. I don't read short stories myself so any recommendations would be appreciated.

Agatha Christie wrote lots of short stories - the classic collection is called The 13 Problems.

Thanks, I hadn't realised that.

Alice Munro won the Nobel prize for her short stories, although they're intelligent rather than easy reading.

Sorry, I'm sure your post came just a few posts down in the books section, I didn't realise how old the thread was.

Louise Kennedy - the end of the world is a cul de sac

I think Katherine Mansfield is THE best short story writer.
