Hi all,

Just thought I would start a thread for Entry 2027 for the above.

My DS has had the invite for the Harrow Test in Jan 2025, has anyone heard back for Eton or Winchester?

i appreciate its just a waiting game, but am asking out of curiosity.

Thanks! It's a Champagne problem now. most likely Eton, though Charterhouse offered academic scholarship. DS like both Eton and Harrow, and wants more time to think...

Future potential Eton families, any thoughts on phones for your boys? s they’ll have a brick phone at Eton I wonder if we should give our son the same now, instead of an iPhone. He would like to listen to music so I’m thinking of getting him an iPod + Nokia. Or perhaps an iPhone with no internet (remove browser and games etc, we did that for his sisters until year 8)

Birmingbacon · 14/05/2025 05:50

We’ve just done an old iPhone with no browser/games

Is anyone else waiting for the Tranche 3 results this week?

NiftyAquaSwan · 25/06/2025 07:58

Yes, we are waiting for tranche 3 too.

NiftyAquaSwan · 25/06/2025 07:59

Yes, we are waiting for tranche 3 too.

ThatHazelTiger · 25/06/2025 10:21

We've been watching this thread with interest and received an Eton offer in the earlier tranche. We were choosing between that and Charterhouse and Winchester as we live a similar distance away from all three.

Ultimately, Eton was a no brainer for us. We were open-minded about co-education, but can really see the advantages of all-boys all through. We loved the single rooms, the handsome houses and the pupils we met were diverse (in every sense), bright and chatty. We also got underneath the skin of the teaching and academic output, which we felt was more rigorous than the other options. We met a good selection of Housemasters and feel we'll be served well. It's traditional with a modern but upbeat tempo to the place and for that sort of money, we want a brand that will endure and be proud of. Our best advice is to talk to as many existing parents as possible and understand the pros and cons of each school.

PS. I also didn't want a school where the Head will freak out at you off if they catch you re-reading Harry Potter on a Saturday night to get some downtime!!

Lilylol · 26/06/2025 16:19

Do the results for tranche 3 and year 7 WL retest come out tomorrow? I believe it is the last day of school for Eton.

RisingStar9 · 26/06/2025 17:11

We are still awaiting the T3 results. I assume it will now be tomorrow.

I think term ends on Saturday, but I might have that wrong.

Yes, term ends on Saturday. Good luck for tomorrow!

Eton tranche 3 results out.

Pippine · 27/06/2025 21:01

Anyone got waiting list? We did

Pippine · 17/07/2025 12:48

Did you get an offer?

RisingStar9 · 17/07/2025 16:01

Yes, we did. We now have to choose between Harrow and Eton. We really love Harrow, but have spent a lot more time there and only had one very quick tour of Eton where we didn’t get the chance to speak to any of the boarding house masters. We will keep an open mind during the boarding house allocation process at Eton, but I think our heart is with Harrow. It had a lovely collegiate feel to it and we really liked the house and boarding master we have been offered there.

DearBiscuit · 17/07/2025 18:54

Anyone taken the Eton offer and yet not heard back from the admission office as confirmation?

Tobstar106 · 09/01/2026 09:06

Could you please tell me how long can you keep your offer for these schools without putting a deposit down ? Is it true parents put deposits down on all the schools they get into ?

Tobstar106 · 09/01/2026 09:41

Why do people hold offers for more than one school ? They know excactly where they want to go ! They all want Eton!! I find it very odd that they wouldn’t just accept the offer , all these headmasters speak to each other in regard to places ect !

ArtHistory · 09/01/2026 10:28

Not everyone wants Eton! Not everyone knows what is right for their child 2.5 years before they start! Just because its a good school, it may not suit a particular child and some parents want more time to consider their options fully - they may be waiting to decide between boarding/day, to get their finances in order, to see if they child matures sufficiently for the quite intense life at Eton, or trying to see if their younger sibling will get in if they want them at the same school (perhaps this is what the Waleses are doing - seeing if C gets a place at Marlborough before committing G to go there).

Every school has a different policy for offers and deposits. As far as I can recall, Eton doesn't require a deposit until the March of Yr 7 (so this March for Sept 2027) entry. Other schools (e.g. Radley/Malborough/Oundle) required the deposit to be paid upon acceptance (so April/May in Yr 6), but with a full refund if you withdrew acceptance before a certain date (approx Dec in year 7).

We accepted places at a couple of schools because that gave us more time for DS to mature, and gave us more opportunities to look around the schools - especially Eton to which we had only the shortest of visits.

The schools all know and are completely fine with people doing this - otherwise they wouldn't provide the refund options. It is a consequence of doing the 13+ admissions process at the same time as the 11+ admissions (i.e. in Yr 6). We checked with our prep head that it wouldn't piss the schools off, but he confirmed that they expect this and have a system in place to manage it.

I also highly doubt that Mr Henderson has the time, energy or inclination to phone up Ms Stone to say "I see you also have Young Master Tobstar on your waiting list". Furthermore, it would be a breach of every known data protection rule if they shared the names of the children who have accepted places.
