I went to a function and there were a lot of black people and I photograph was taken and I showed somebody the photograph and their remark was there's a lot of black people in this photograph and I said so what does it really matter and they replied how many white people are there I said it doesn't matter as long as the people are nice which they are and they said to me why do you go to a function full of black people

I said that sounds a racist remark and the person said oh I'm not racist because I have friends of different nationalities so I want the opinion of people on here I think that was racist and it is my honest opinion that although this person has one or two friends of different nationalities they would not mix in a setting with predominantly black people

Does sounds pretty racist and strange thing to say

MoveItOnUp · 21/09/2024 03:01

Why did they feel the need to even comment on it?

Josette77 · 21/09/2024 03:02

Racist

Discombobulated2024 · 21/09/2024 03:04

Weird. Of course it’s racist.

Flute56 · 21/09/2024 04:36

MoveItOnUp · 21/09/2024 03:01

Why did they feel the need to even comment on it?

Because they think that all black people are troublemakers and they think that if you're in an environment with a large number of black people there is bound to be trouble

OP posts:
Keroppi · 21/09/2024 04:39

Yes, of course that's racist and weird.

Mmhmmn · 21/09/2024 04:42

What a weird thing to say ..

They sound like the troublemaker !!

Flute56 · 21/09/2024 04:36

Because they think that all black people are troublemakers and they think that if you're in an environment with a large number of black people there is bound to be trouble

Why are you asking if this is racist?

If they think all black people are trouble of course they are racist.

LadyKenya · 21/09/2024 09:53

What is your connection to the person that you showed your photograph too? If it was a "friend" with an opinion like that, I would certainly be distancing myself from them. They have a low view of black people, and they have basically told you so.

Basically the dictionary definition of racism. Confused

Why do you need to post on mumsnet to check whether it's racist? Don't you know whether it is or not?

I see, I take it that you are not black yourself, as I would be surprised that your acquaintance would be so willing to expose their racism like that. Plus the fact that you seem unsure if what they said, was indeed racist, or not.

Sunisshiningweatherissweet2 · 06/10/2024 15:09

Schrödinger's Racist: someone who claims they are not racist while saying something racist.

Your acquaintance needs to stop shitstirring and poking her nose in, just for the sake of it.

Sheri99 · 12/11/2024 00:07

It isn't racist to say "Wow, there are a lot of black people there". My best friend of 40 years would say:
"Wow, there are a lot of black people there..." or conversely she would say "Wow, there are a lot of white people there...".

Black people even say: "Wow, there's a lot of black people in that picture...".

What difference does it make?

What is the point?

In America, if a photo has a lot of black people in it, then it can be sometimes be assumed it is a black sponsored gathering of blacks, because in nearly all pictures there are only a handful of blacks because the ratio here is about 12:1! So if there is more than half 1/4 blacks seen in a photo: "How come there are so many blacks in the photo?" (Meaning: where are all the white people? ) or vis a vi.

Aggie15 · 12/11/2024 00:13

Racist. End of. Sorry people still have to put up with this.

MagentaRocks · 12/11/2024 00:18

I’d bet no-one would see a photo of lots of white people and comment that there were a lot of white people there and ask how many black people were there. Your acquaintance does seem to be racist and even spouts the usual ‘I can’t be racist as I have black friends’ bollocks.

These racist troglodytes have virtually the whole of Mumsnet and it's still not enough for them and their mates from Stockholm...

The person said "oh I'm not racist because I have friends of different nationalities" are the exact words of a racist.

I don't agree with that because if you are racist you would not have friends of different nationalities you would keep away from them and have white friends only

I don't know why they invest so much bad energy, if only they spent more time doing the opposite.
