I went to a function and there were a lot of black people and I photograph was taken and I showed somebody the photograph and their remark was there's a lot of black people in this photograph and I said so what does it really matter and they replied how many white people are there I said it doesn't matter as long as the people are nice which they are and they said to me why do you go to a function full of black people

It isn't racist to say "Wow, there are a lot of black people there". My best friend of 40 years would say:
"Wow, there are a lot of black people there..." or conversely she would say "Wow, there are a lot of white people there...".

Black people even say: "Wow, there's a lot of black people in that picture...".

What difference does it make?

What is the point?

In America, if a photo has a lot of black people in it, then it can be sometimes be assumed it is a black sponsored gathering of blacks, because in nearly all pictures there are only a handful of blacks because the ratio here is about 12:1! So if there is more than half 1/4 blacks seen in a photo: "How come there are so many blacks in the photo?" (Meaning: where are all the white people? ) or vis a vi.

Bye

I don't agree with that because if you are racist you would not have friends of different nationalities you would keep away from them and have white friends only

Having friends of different nationalities, does not mean that a person would not harbour, or have absorbed harmful stereotypes of said nationality. Some people may not even be aware of the racist stereotypes that they have been exposed too, and have absorbed. It is complete naivety to state otherwise, and is too simplistic.

ODFOD - The echo chamber is outside of Black Mumsnet. You'll find a few a few people from 'Stockholm' that can hand hold you through your trauma there.

it's mind boggling. How does someone genuinely come into this Forum ask if something is racist and then tell people they are wrong when told why.

I agree@Socrateswasrightaboutvoting . I will not be commenting further on here, it is obvious that the OP struggles to understand how racism can appear, under many guises, and as you say, when they are told, by people whose lives are constantly blighted by the very thing, she is telling posters no, such, and such is not racist. So let her just get on with it. I am not wasting any more of my time on her thread.

Same here. I have no 'be nice' left in the tank for insincere people.

Of course it's racist, weird and assumptive I mean, there might've been a mugging fistfight or even worse with all those black people together in a room breathing in the same air
Also don't forget
'Some of my friends/my best friend are/is black'
Chimes with
'There is only one race' 😖
White people eh?
What could we do without them??

I think you're trying to justify racist thinking and the saying of it out loud
By icing it so it becomes more palatable......

GreyBeeplus3 · 08/04/2026 15:19

@Sheri99
Late to the party but have just read your post about the photograph full of black people from 12/11/2024
It seems to me you're over explaining/using convienient examples of how a racist discussed said photograph to justify personal opinion legitimately and get away with it
