Racism is rife on here....

MotherOfRatios · 28/09/2023 19:58

In case this comes up on Trending or Active, this is the Black MNetters board and I’m actively looking for opinions from Black women only!

Is anyone else just fed up of the racism here from Meghan Markle to the recent of the 15-year-old girl? To the discussion on Chris Kaba it's enough and I've noticed it's always the posters who claim they are feminists that are the worst. Not to mention the amount of white women who say, but I have a mixed race children..... and? You can still be racist

I've never seen any racism on here?!

I have. I'm white so I'm not going to engage with this thread (as per the OP's request), but it's definitely there.

Ceramicmug239 · 28/09/2023 20:12

I’m black and yes, it’s disgusting.

for me it’s how casual and normalised it is - just look at PP saying they’ve never seen any racism on here. 🥲

There's a lot
just go with the Chris Kaba thread. There is so much racism on that thread...

OP posts:
beeny · 28/09/2023 20:33

I have seen a lot of racism recently

PinotGroggio · 28/09/2023 20:36

Yep! Just see the other long-running thread on BMNetters. It's always the usual suspects on the usual boards but they are never banned.

It's really not fair

Justwonderinghow · 28/09/2023 20:47

I haven’t just seen it but have experienced it soo much recently, including at work.
not point trying to explain it as unless you are affect by it- which will not be the case for most folk here- you can never understand it.
is also very casual.
Its quite said really.

LindorDoubleChoc · 28/09/2023 20:52

Again @MNHQ. Why am I seeing this in Active Conversations when I have opted out of this topic on my feed?

I think I asked this question quite recently. No reply! Why?

RaceWithChyna · 28/09/2023 20:56

Yep. The Chris Kaba thread was mine and I can’t say I was surprised at half the things I was reading. There’s a thread on this board where the OP asked for advice on headscarves for toddlers. They asked for responses from black women and people really had to comment ‘why black women only? You’re racist’ it’s ridiculous.

I’ve also thought there’s ‘feminists’ and then there’s ‘black feminists.’ It’s as if we always have to be excluded and pushed to the side. Racism and unconscious bias will never go away, especially not on an anonymous forum

indianwoman · 28/09/2023 20:07

I’m white, so I won’t stay and comment further at OPs request, but it’s absolutely rife on here. I reported a comment hours ago and it’s still there. MN mods aren’t innocent either, they could do a lot more.

flashbac · 28/09/2023 21:00

I wouldn't have seen this if it wasn't in active.

I agree 100%. Racist AF. Especially more so lately.

Tireddoggy · 28/09/2023 21:04

Am not denying that racism happens but it works both ways! The tragic murder of the 15 year old was absolutely horrifying but when a thread was started, long before the identity of the poor girl was made public ,there were comments from posters attacking and saying that the poor girl was white middle class and that was why people were interested.
Lots of assumptions made that PPs were only interested/ cared because she was white !! In fact the thread was basically hijacked by the defensive negative comments. I found it very disrespectful and sad TBH .

Uggtrending · 28/09/2023 21:05

@indianwoman this is the issue.... I think its best to just ignore and not engage with foolishness OP

Uggtrending · 28/09/2023 21:07

@Tireddoggy that's jumping the gun though not racist. Huge difference because although wrong in the case you mentioned... it is usually the case!

You clearly don’t know what racism is if you think that’s racist. In what world would that even be racist?

A person wrongly commented that the media mentioned the fact that the girl went to a fee paying school in hope for people to care more because the girl was white. That poster was wrong and assumed her race based on the fact that she went to a private school as if black children don’t go to private schools.

If anything that assumption is leading towards the OPs point more than it is yours lol

KeepTheTempo · 28/09/2023 21:25

Of course. Just see all the posters on the thread about the tragic murder in Croydon who are all for stop and search and racially based policing, because it's worth it to 'save the lives of women'. Which just shows that these ardent feminists are either only out to protect white women, or have completely failed to notice how women of colour and especially Black women are harmed by these policies AND by gender-based violence.

OneMoreCookieMonster · 28/09/2023 21:29

I agree there's a huge amount of racist people here and casual racism is common place as is stigmatisim and prejudice. But, huge but! I rarely see racism against black people. It's mostly against Asians and travellers. I'm not saying it doesn't happen because it is does. I have seen it. But excluding anyone from a thread is wrong because of the colour of their skin.

Prejudice is rampant if you're a white single mom on benefits and forget it if you're a white middle age high earner with kids paying for private school and with private medical. Well get those pitch forks out!

So if you are black, Asian, white, brown or identify as a 3 legged unicorn named Jane Bob call out any racist, stigmatised and prejudiced posts, threads or people.

There should be more discussions about these issues but excluding and othering people who don't fit your message is racist and against the spirit of inclusion. There will be like minded people of all races, ethnicities and backgeounds who feel the same. Include them and we may actually see change for the better.

FWIW I'm mixed race (as are my children) and proud of my heritage and will stand up for my rights and the rights of others. I'll also call out any bullshit behaviour, racism and prejudice when I see it.

I'll exit stage left now, as a non fully black person me, my views or my compassion are not welcome here.

How do we change things? This all seems so entrenched, I have no idea how anything changes for the better.

Why do you capitalise the word Black but not white?

OP, I'm sorry your thread is being hijacked by the exact people you didn't want to hear from.... It's wryly ironic how they're spectacularly proving your point in doing so...

TrailingLoellia · 28/09/2023 22:10

Yes, I have seen racism on MN as a lurker before joining. No place is safe when you are Black. This thread has even got some racist overtones going on, think we can all tell which ones. It proves your point OP
