How will you feel if Kemi wins?

britneyisfree · 13/07/2022 00:22

I don't support the Conservative party. I also don't think she can win.

However.... I just got a little thrill of joy when I imagined her winning. I have never before been able to imagine a black woman with braids being Prime Minister.

Any one else?

I would be surprised if she won the leadership to be honest. It will be interesting to see who clinches it.

She definitely won't win... I was just thinking of how it would feel if she did.

Teenage me would have been very excited by the prospect.

Personally I would not be thrilled at all. I am not in alignment with her views. Would I like to see a black women become PM, sure! Just not Kemi.

Sick is how I'd feel, personally.

She doesn't appear to give two hoots about Black women or the poor, or the vulnerable. Unsurprising given her family fortune, which nobody seems to be referencing, despite wealth handicapping Rishi Sunak's campaign (I appreciate he probably has more!).

On the other hand, I love seeing Black women doing well, so would be happy if she did succeed.

Interesting.... I know NOTHING about her. The first I heard of her was when she launched her bid.

She doesn't sound like my type of person from what you're all saying, but none of the Tories are. I dislike them intensely, so I suppose I'd choose her just because it would be very special to have the first black (female) pm, particularly in this day and age.

@Starseeking on another thread someone said she came from a working class background. I corrected them by pointing out her mum was a professor and her dad a GP.

Anyway there are plenty of politicians whose political views I disagree with but as long as they show basic manners to people, I can put up with them and in some

In the case of Kemi personally I think she is a nasty piece of work and should learn some basic manners.

If a journalist asks you a simple question there is no reason to attack the journalist and paste their name on social media so your supporters can racially insult them. So I wouldn't want her to be PM that reason.

I had the misfortune to see Kemi in full flow, it was not a pleasant sight. She was disagreeing with something that Dawn Butler had raised. I would not be unreasonable to say that she basically launched a verbal attack on her. The woman comes across as unpleasant. I would not support someone who behaves like that.

For some reason my post was truncated -
"Anyway there are plenty of politicians whose political views I disagree with but as long as they show basic manners to people, I can put up with them and in some cases respect them."

Kemi isn't one of them.

She definitely won't win

I hate to say it, but I wonder if she’s getting so many nominations at the moment precisely because she’s unlikely to win. I wouldn’t put it last one of the big hitters to ‘lend’ nominations to a less likely candidate in the hope of getting what they see as a weaker opponent when it comes to the party members’ ballot.

Much as I would like to see a black woman in a leading position in politics, about the only thing I agree with her on is GC. I wouldn’t vote Conservative in a million years anyway so it’s a moot point.

Ive posted on another thread about her attack on Nadine Whyte @RedWingBoots.

But apart from that unsavoury side to her I cant see how I could want her for PM given her support for the Sewell report and continued downplaying of structural racism in this country.

She knows who she's playing to but it's a dangerous game for many.

Sorry, I don't want a black person - man or woman, with this mind set to be doing the top job.

@Maggiethecat ahh yes the Sewage report.

Anyway I suspect Kemi is in it to get a Cabinet position as she is fed up of being a junior minister.

Her rhetoric is dangerous; effectively people of colour just need to work harder and they will succeed because racism doesn't exist. She must live in a permanent state of cognitive dissonance.

I think a lot of Tories love her and are intentionally supporting her because she says all the things they would like to say but can't because it's not "politically correct", yet it's fine if the words come from her mouth as she's a Black woman, so ticks two diversity boxes.

Iain Dale on LBC is interviewing Kemi now.

Apparently Kemi doesn't like having spats on twitter. 🤔

@Starseeking her formative educational year weren't spent in the UK so she has a different experience from those of us who have.

@Starseeking - you’ve hit the nail on the head.
And for the above reasons I could never wish for her to succeed in her PM ambitions.

@RedWingBoots - just caught the end of that chat with ID and I got sense of more fluff than substance.

@Maggiethecat she was arse licking.

She knows that she has to keep Iain Dale (and other important journos) on side if she wants to further her political career. Journalists like Nadine Whyte can be ignored as she thinks they aren't important so without power. She doesn't realise that journalists like Nadine Whyte have links to important ones e.g. James O'Brien so her dreadful behaviour will be revealed.

I wonder how she treats junior civil servants. I suspect she knows to treat security guards and cleaners well.

Iain Dale is a big fan of hers. Caller feedback followed the chat and a black female caller said she couldn’t support anyone who says they don’t see colour (I’m presuming that KB said that earlier). ID’s response was why did she have to see everything through the prism of colour. Seriously?

KB will continue to make the ‘right’ sound bites.

Another LBC presenter is talking about Kemi now.

A brilliant black guy from same background with similar education as Kemi is laying it down.
