How will you feel if Kemi wins?

I don't support the Conservative party. I also don't think she can win.

However.... I just got a little thrill of joy when I imagined her winning. I have never before been able to imagine a black woman with braids being Prime Minister.

Any one else?

AAAh I see! Your description must be referring to a caller.

RedWingBoots · 15/07/2022 19:51

Apparently she quoted at the end of her campaign launch -

“When you want to help people, you tell them the truth. When you want to help yourself, you tell them what they want to hear.”

BIWI · 15/07/2022 19:57

Apologies for posting here, as a white woman. But I have to say I was aghast to see that she was standing. A black woman who has denied that white privilege exists.

She's also said that if she is elected, she will remove 'superfluous' posts in schools. Aka teaching assistants. The woman is dangerously deluded.

RedWingBoots · 15/07/2022 19:59

Kemi is on TV now showing exactly who she is.

Maggiethecat · 15/07/2022 20:25

She has no qualms about tearing people down as Tom just discovered.

RedWingBoots · 15/07/2022 20:25

Oh and now she is pretending to be poor. FFS

JayDot500 · 15/07/2022 20:32

Where's my vomit bag?

Actually, I don't know if she'd be any worse than our current PM, so fair play to her for trying.

I'm watching this in a room with Nigerians who just rolled their eyes when they mentioned Nigeria. And she is attacking people unprovoked. That's all we need. Kmt.

RedWingBoots · 15/07/2022 20:50

She is lying about affording a dentist.

That's her Achilles heel with white people - ask her about NHS dentistry and she will lie.

RedWingBoots · 15/07/2022 20:52

@JayDot500 😂

Designhelp · 15/07/2022 22:07

Is there a link to watch the debate

RedWingBoots · 15/07/2022 22:13

It was on channel 4 so is on channel 4+1 at the moment.

RedWingBoots · 15/07/2022 22:14

Then it will be on 4od for about 7 days from tomorrow.

PinotGroggio · 15/07/2022 22:21

The white women of Mumsnet seem to love Kemi but I suspect that were she not against gender self-id then they'd have a very different opinion of her 🙄

doadeer · 15/07/2022 22:22

She's so dangerous. The tories love ethnic minorities that sprout their shite survivor bias about "if you just work hard enough" because it gives them a way to say they are inclusive without doing anything to support the communities these people are supposed to be representing.

And as the parent of an autistic child who will need significant school support her views are very scary. The tories are already changing the nursery ratio so less care givers per child, this will mean so many more kids with special educational needs will be ignored and unidentified. It's completely the wrong way we are going.

I think many of these women are so hyper focused on this issue only they can't see anything else. Or they have the privilege to not have to care about anything else.

RedWingBoots · 15/07/2022 22:27

The white women of Mumsnet seem to love Kemi

And @PinotGroggio the white men.

So you know whose votes she is going after.

One of the people I was listening to earlier today pointed out if she was talking her shit in London, and that includes the areas that have a Tory MP, she wouldn't get anywhere.

RedWingBoots · 15/07/2022 22:33

@doadeer Kemi with others like Priti openly make it clear they aren't part of any community.

And Kemi openly lies about her personal experiences.

Topseyt123 · 15/07/2022 22:37

I'd be utterly horrified if Kemi won. It would be a travesty.

She comes across as a deeply unpleasant character. She is my MP, unfortunately. I wrote to her once complaining about Dominic Cummings and his Barnard's Castle debacle in the first lockdown when I had obeyed the rules and not gone to see my frail and elderly parents. Her totally inadequate reply was that whilst she disagreed with what he had done, he had now apologised so that should be the end of it.

Her main policies are shitty too, cutting the already inadequate budget for education and getting rid of the "superfluous" staff, many of whom are there to support SEN children.

She was one of Boris's true arse-lickers in chief. Probably because she just wanted to continue to rise up the ranks.

She is not to be trusted.

As one of them, I can categorically say that I DO NOT love Kemi. I think she's horrible and, also, dangerous.

Daisycrown · 16/07/2022 07:31

Gutted and incredibly worried is how I would feel. She's an awful human being. I'd take Boris back over her, better the devil you know and all that.

PinotGroggio · 16/07/2022 08:16

Sorry @BIWI, that was a generalisation. Perhaps a more accurate description would've been the white women of the FWR boards. I'm as GC as they come but the posters on that board seem to think no other issue should matter!

The one thing I have noticed about Mumsnet is how the a lot of (presumably white) posters love the trope of the good Black person vs the bad one. So they like Kemi and Michelle Obama but deplore Meghan Markle, Serena Williams and Diane Abbott. White women are allowed to make mistakes but they'll drag up something a black woman said or did 20 years ago (see Diane and private school for her son) and still use it to attack her.

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 16/07/2022 09:45

I’m old enough to remember Thatcher being our first female pm (which at the time was as revolutionary as the thought of a black woman).I think I’d feel the same as then, despair because despite her sex and her colour she is still a Tory.

This is pretty much exactly my feeling and experience.

However we have Tory slate which was (I think) entirely female, ethnic minority, mixed family and in one case all three and I'm also sick to death of watching white middle class liberals lecture me on why they are the "wrong kind of black/female/brown" people so it doesn't count. They are not white approved black and brown people. I find that, and the level of entitlement white lefties feel to minority votes is very telling.

I'd like them to reflect on why the left has done so poorly that they had to mandate a woman on the leadership slate and have very patchy minority representation at the top.

After decades involved in activism and campaigns when I look back the track record of both left and right and its a damned sight more mixed than it should be.

RedWingBoots · 17/07/2022 11:43

The former chair of governors of Jubliee Primary school, who was the chair when Kemi was there, is speaking on the radio. He basically says she it pitching for a sector of the society who are privilege enough to not need the services. He says there is nothing left to cut in schools. He says at her time as a governor she never suggested cuts need to be made. There is no fat there to be cut in state primary and secondary schools. He is calling her a liar and saying they are all playing politics with the most vulnerable in society.

VladmirsPoutine · 17/07/2022 12:08

If she won it would prove my long held theory (not that I came up with it but have always known it to be true) that in order to gain real status and elevate in this country as a Black person you need to not only tap-dance for white people but actively coddle them and spout white supramacist views that they can't say but you can because you essentially embody all that 'diversity'.

The issue with this however is that once you gain that status you are always going to be first in the firing line. First to be thrown off the ship. There's a reason why they initially tried to placate the parties during lockdown scandal by only releasing pictures Sean Bailey's party.
