Black Mumsnetters
White man says black woman is talking nonsense
RedWingBoots · 23/05/2022 12:30
What a surprise (not)!
A white person questioning global majorities lived experience.
If you are white with ONLY white children or NO children then I'm not interested in your view this is black mumsnetters so read the room!

I've met a few guys like this. Unfortunately, some people only see life from their lens and they have to be educated about the real world and what is going on it.
The struggle is real!
RedWingBoots · 23/05/2022 20:34
I actually wonder if this man has solely looked after multiple young children for long periods.
Nah obviously I'm being stupid....
AdamRyan · 24/05/2022 10:03
I'm white, but wanted to comment to say thanks for posting this. WTAF?
There are far too many utter fuckwits in the conservative party. I don't know why anyone would be up in arms about giving preschoolers the language to talk about differences between people. What an absolute knob.

What a wonderful initiative from Liz Pemberton. Hopefully the articles that stem from the crazy accusations bring her much publicity and further work.
The man is talking nonsense!

You are clearly here to start an argument.
Do you understand what is meant by the term racism. Your post shows you clearly do not.

Agreed.
Shame more people who care for or teach children haven't gone through it as then we wouldn't be dealing with stories like child Q and this - www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2022/may/24/girl-tried-to-kill-herself-after-strip-search-by-met-officers-mother-says

The original article was in the Telegraph on 7th May 2022 but it's behind a paywall so only the headlines and first sentence are visible:
Councils hire ‘Maoist’ consultants to ‘decolonise minds’ of nursery school children
Several local authorities call on services of The Black Nursery Manager to deliver diversity training sessions

How is adamryan being racist, or starting an argument? They were agreeing with you?!
ikeephavingmaddreams · 24/05/2022 12:15
OP, I think you've somehow misunderstood the post by @AdamRyan - if I've read it correctly, they're agreeing with you.
I agree with you too, the fact she's received anything other than praise is shocking (I'm also white, but admire what she's trying to achieve and think she should be fully supported.)
IncompleteSenten · 24/05/2022 12:15
The mighty white man has spoken. Fucking hell.
When I think what they are happily doing to children at the moment and this is what they have a problem with? 🤦
MangoBiscuit · 24/05/2022 12:20
OP, did you mean to quote AdamRyan, or AntonHeck? I can't see the post from Anton as it's been removed, so I'm guessing you meant to reply to them.

I'm white, with a life long career in early years education, and I absolutely believe that this work is enormously important. In particular it's vital for white staff, who sadly still form the vast majority of the early years workforce, to be helped to understand the lived experiences of their pupils when it's likely to be so very different from anything they have experienced themselves.

@SlatsandFlaps I think you got lost on the world wide web.

It would help if you would not post your rubbish on here. Entitled much.
Scautish · 24/05/2022 13:28
White people are entitled to find issue with black people without being accused of racism! HTH
@SlatsandFlaps
I cannot believe you actually wrote that thinking it was OK? It’s the very definition of racism. It’s a disgusting comment.
emuloc · 24/05/2022 13:39
I despair sometimes. People who actually think like that, could be anybody poc have the misfortune of having to deal with, on the daily.

Disclaimer I am white and have white kids and live rurally.
This training is needed, especially in areas such as mine. Dd went to nursery with a girl who is of Nigerian decent and when they went to primary school this girl for many children was the first person of colour they had interacted with and it was handled so badly at school.
The teachers reactions to questions from the children and games they would play was handled so badly, it actually made the situation worse.
The teachers at the school seemed to be at a loss about how to handle the situation
TibetanTerrah · 25/05/2022 06:27
No wonder black mumsnetters have to put disclaimers on their OPs when white people insist on wading in with ignorant responses.
I'm literally posting to offer a (white) voice of support and nothing else. We have absolutely NO right to an opinion on what black mumsnetters and the wider black community experience.

Did you not read the disclaimer then? 🤔🙄

Just wanted to offer support and back it up with an example, was trying to help. However from the hostile response, I will back out...
I am of the opinion that it is everyone's responsibility to make society better and to combat racism which is why I was offering support.
I have not got experience of racism but have suffered severe discrimination which is why I know the importance of being an ally
DoubleCarbs4Life · 25/05/2022 07:21
Hope it’s OK to post. I’m white and work in education. I work in a secondary school with majority black and mixed heritage children, and have mixed race children myself.
I’d never come across Liz Pemberton’s work. She sounds fabulous. There is a huge amount of work to do in this area and an urgent need for it.
Unfortunately it’s a fight to get people like John Hayes to just shut the hell up and listen. So many white people prefer to talk than to listen, and I’m ashamed of the blinkered, entitled response you often find when black people start talking about their experiences and coming up with solutions to issues that affect them.
Its also shameful that a professional woman with innovative ideas is being abused like this. Solidarity to her.
