A white person questioning global majorities lived experience.

If you are white with ONLY white children or NO children then I'm not interested in your view this is black mumsnetters so read the room!

Sorry I was busy working and looking after my DD.

Just to say it's worth not reporting racist posts in threads on this part of MN as it hides the problem.

White men opining on Black Women is a norm. Even at work they just have to do/say something to catch your attention, so they can be seen and heard and fawned over. I spend a lot of time not looking at them because of it, I wont give their need for attention any energy whatsoever and have zero interest in the pontificating.

Liz Pemberton will go from strength to strength

Just wanted to offer support and back it up with an example, was trying to help. However from the hostile response, I will back out...

I am of the opinion that it is everyone's responsibility to make society better and to combat racism which is why I was offering support.

I have not got experience of racism but have suffered severe discrimination which is why I know the importance of being an ally

There was no hostility, I'm asking you why you are commenting after the disclaimer in the OP, which shows a lack of respect.
But continue to push the Aggressive Balck Woman trope, my 'ally'.🙄😏

Disclaimer I am white and have white kids and live rurally.

This training is needed, especially in areas such as mine. Dd went to nursery with a girl who is of Nigerian decent and when they went to primary school this girl for many children was the first person of colour they had interacted with and it was handled so badly at school.

The teachers reactions to questions from the children and games they would play was handled so badly, it actually made the situation worse.

The teachers at the school seemed to be at a loss about how to handle the situation

I hope you voiced this stance to the head..

TibetanTerrah·
No wonder black mumsnetters have to put disclaimers on their OPs when white people insist on wading in with ignorant responses

Exactly. They hounded a Black Woman relentlessly, even doxxing her. MN dealt with it and set up this board, that she'd requested.

Thats some MNers for you. Far too many MNers imo. Yet still they come here thinking they must police what we say - instead of just getting lost.

Just like Black Women do when we see the numerous bait racist 'Is this racist/Is this cultural appropriation silly posts and threads designed to get us riled. Most of us have ignored the dog-whistle attention seeking for years.

Theres a fascination with Black Women that is decidedly strange. I dont even see BMN in Active so clearly they're on the prowl, waiting to stick their oar in.

Nonsensical people.

This thread is in Active at the moment.

Would you say this to a man invading the Feminism forum when he has been told his opinion is not wanted?
I doubt it.

Exactly, I doubt they would.

Personally I welcome white allies, particularly on a topic such as this which affects the whole nation's children. However, the OP's stated what she's looking for so I think it would be better for those wanting a broader conversation to start another thread elsewhere.

Agreed.

Shame more people who care for or teach children haven't gone through it as then we wouldn't be dealing with stories like child Q and this - www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2022/may/24/girl-tried-to-kill-herself-after-strip-search-by-met-officers-mother-says

That poor girl 😨

BryceQuinlanTheFirst · 22/07/2022 14:30

This is so so important what she is doing

Her sessions include teaching staff how to handle questions on race from young children, and how “to confidently satisfy the natural curiosity that all children have pertaining to skin colours, hair textures, and religious and/or cultural practices”.

I've read loads of threads on here where white parents don't think their child has been racist but they've said something completely inappropriate or racist.

We need to have these conversations. Children notice hair type and skin colour very young and we aren't giving them the means to talk about it in a healthy way.

I bet his kids go to a 95% white school and he doesn't have a bloody clue.

Delectable · 23/07/2022 12:40

Liz should be supported!

NoNina · 23/07/2022 12:54

I'm white and hope it's ok to post a comment.

Liz Pemberton seems like an amazing, intelligent, competent woman and role model. Her programme sounds like a positive and child-centred way to deal with the topic of race, we nee more women like her.
