Praise to 4c Hair!!

Black people have different hair patterns and textures but when you think Black people, the automatic image is the hair texture mainly known as '4c hair' or 'Afro-textured hair'.

Not surprising that this is the hair that's been shat on the most! The hair that's overlooked and ignored because it doesn't have visible 'gorgeous curls' - at best, and seen as ugly - at worst.

The hair that's said to not be 'styled' or 'finished' unless it's curled, gelled or straightened to within an inch of it's life.

The hair that's said to not "look right" or professional.

The hair that's not just what grows out of our head but is seen as a statement, political, rebellious, akin to chanting "strong black woman" or "Black power".

To me, it's none of those. It's just hair. It grows, it sheds, it does everything that it's supposed to do. It's versatile. It's delicate. It's beautiful. It's styled. It's finished. It's naturally unapologetically fluffy, frizzy and soft. It needs patience and understanding because we've been conditioned to look elsewhere for beauty. We can wear it however we like!

I'm just appreciating 4c hair in it's natural glory and different styling. If we don't, who will?

Happy Friday all!Smile
