Richard Okorogheye’s poor mother

My heart goes out to Richard’s mother Evidence Joel. The way she was treated when she reported him missing was awful and you can just see the pain on her face. I’m however not sure that Sky News should be interviewing her the day after police confirmed his death. Whether or not it was her decision to speak to them, you would have thought that someone at Sky might have realised that interviewing a grieving mother on TV, the day after her son’s death was confirmed, shows a complete lack of empathy. You didn’t see Sarah Everard’s grieving mother paraded on TV, but it seems like black women are fair game. I just felt so uncomfortable watching it and had to turn over. It just didn’t sit right with me. Anyone else feel the same?

My heart breaks for her and her family.

Awful. We worried as soon as we heard he had not taken his medication or warm clothing. Hearts go out to his family. RIP Richard.

Some people are on here just to cause offence. Just ignore them.

@DastardlytheFriendlyMutt

I remember the night he went missing it was all over social media. I must have retweeted multiple tweets of people looking for him. And I honestly was scared for him with everything his mother said and how vulnerable he sounded.

But I saw many of the assertions that have been spoken about here being ascribed to him but people who didn't bother to read the messages and I also fear the majority were not from Black people making assumptions that he couldn't be vulnerable and was off to no good.

I sincerely hope the police start listening to parents and family members when they say someone is acting out of character. They know them better than any stereotype the police ascribe to a particular demographic.

My heart honestly breaks for this family.

I agree

RIP Richard, praying for his poor Mum and the rest of his loved ones that God will give them the strength they need.

I agree with you OP. As a standard they should give loved ones at least a few days before requesting or scheduling interviews.

I always find it abhorrent when microphones are thrust in the face of the grieving. It's a sign of how the press have no regard for anyone, they just want a sensation.
