A nice new little thread for Skidoodle and anyone else who needs it.....

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
tori32 · 04/09/2007 19:52

turtle23 Have you decided on a homebirth? Hope you are as if they work out its really nice. Have a birth pool (clean) which you can have if you like.

Paranoid1stTimer · 04/09/2007 20:02

My booking in appt is 12th September and they'll give me scan date then. I didn't go to GP until I missed my 2nd period cos I think I was scared to admit to myself I was actually pregnant hence the delay in getting booked in. I am pretty nervous about everything some days and quite calm on others.

Do you have to decide everything pretty much at the start or do you get to change your birthplan as you go along? I know that there are 2 wards at the Princess Royal where you can either def NOT have an epidural and stay in the birthing suite (or something like that) or if you even hint at an epidural you end up in the more operating theatre type place cos the laid back birthing suite has no anesthetist.

This could all be total cr@p I have been told though!!!

turtle23 · 04/09/2007 20:04

tori32...Wow, really? That is so kind..(god this crying has got to stop!) Yes, I am definitely having a home birth. I will accept if things go wrong that I will have to transfer, but I am 100%commited to giving it all I can at home. Just told my mum my plan and she laughed, said "You'll change your mind soon enough" and refused to believe it.
I had an operation 18 months ago which I was meant to stay in hospital for a week after. I checked myself out the next morning, denied the morphine, and went into hiding. I felt a million times better out of hospital(don't worry dr said it was ok) and I just know that I will be the same with this. Things hurt less when you don't have strangers streesing you out.
Sending happy supportive thoughts to you all..

skidoodle · 04/09/2007 20:09

yardette, my scan is tomorrow

tori, I sure will get on here as soon as I get back. I still don't really believe it's going to happen.

iliketosleep · 04/09/2007 20:42

phew paranoid1stTimer, im glad i didnt upset you and im sorry once again i only told story for the coincidense not what happened!

r.e. the homebirth, i feel alot more bonded to ds than i do to dds, not that i dont love them all the same as i do! but me and ds have this very special bond, we are basically best friends and i really think that was to do with how he was born and how relaxed the atmosphere was. Whereas with dds there was always someone there to tell me what to do, how to do it, when not to do it and taking them off to the nursery so i can "sleep".....who can sleep just after giving birth???

fitnforty · 04/09/2007 21:48

Yay for the twins Yardette! I was secretly hoping I might have two even though the thought of it scared the sh*t out of me One will do fine for now though as long as it's all healthy!

Nuchal scans - lucky for those of you who didn't need a full bladder! I was told I didn't need it and they had good visibility, but couldn't get the baby into the right position for the measurements so I had to take a break and down 1 1/2 litres of icecold water in about 15 mins so they could float the bump up a bit!
Oh, and we don't get them on the NHS in South Wales, Bupa only. Happy with the results though, my pre-test risk was 1 in 65, but combined with bloods and measurement, went down to 1 in 1340! Wouldn't have had the amnio anyway, but still nice to know the risk was so much lower.

You lucky ladies being so slim at 60kg! DOn't know what I weigh in kilos, but was just over 15 stone to start with and have managed to only put on about 4lbs at 14 weeks! DOn't want to avoid eating nice things but have gone off choc completely! Mind you, have only just discovered how tasty Ben& Jerry's Cherry Garcia is. Had no problem polishing off a whole tub of that. Thank god I haven't gone off icecream, that would be torture

fitnforty · 04/09/2007 21:52

by the way, anyone going to the Baby Show at EArl's court in Oct? Has anyone been to one before and can recommend it?

HAve decided to treat myself to a daytrip to London for it - and put himself through retain torture But of course, I need him to carry all my bags

HolidaysQueen · 05/09/2007 07:37

Morning everyone!
Skidoodle - good luck today!!!
I woke up early this morning and couldn't get back to sleep. My tummy seems to have ballooned in the past week so I suddenly feel really pregnant - although it could just be because I ate so much lovely pasta and ice cream in Italy last week ;-)
I'm loving the mood on here at the moment - everyone so chatty and happy! I have my scan tomorrow and am pretty nervous, but reading all your good stories is keeping me happy and focused on positive things. Thank you
It's my birthday on Sat, and having birthday lunch with my three favourite people - my husband, my best friend who is expecting her 2nd baby in January and her 18 month old daughter (my goddaughter). Had a great chat with her last night and now really looking forward to the scan and the weekend. Sometimes this being pregnant thing is lovely and fun!
HQ xx

glammama · 05/09/2007 07:38

Not sure I'm ready for the Baby Show just yet! Tickets seem a bit pricey as well for me. If it was a lot nearer my due date then I'd consider it. I'm sure some othes will be going.
For rthose of you who have been suffering from upset stomachs, I've had this for weeks . I don't know if it's a coinceidence or if it works but I've been drinking Actimels and I'm pretty much back to normal
Have a good day all, and good luck with scans!!

iliketosleep · 05/09/2007 08:46

good morning everyone

derah · 05/09/2007 08:56

Morning all!

Good luck to those with scans today.

Fitnforty - I think if I went to the baby show I'd see too much stuff that I'd want, and so perhaps it's best if all that lovely stuff is left out of sight, out of mind!! Since this is baby no. 2 I don't really need any new stuff.

I've just left dd at nursery sitting on the potty. We've had quite a good weekend potty training and this is her first day at nursery in her big girl pants. She said she wanted potty when we got out of the car so I rushed her inside and onto the potty, and she must like the potty they have there (it's red with ladybird spots) cos she wouldn't get off it again so I had to leave her to it! Good luck to the nursery staff today - it's all a bit hit and miss. But I guess they're used to it.

Had my scan on Friday and everything was fine. Baby was very active - jumping around all over the place.

they couldn't do the Nucal fold test, as the baby was a little too small, so I have to go back this Thurday (have to say, no objection at all to having a second scan and seeing the little one again).

I am all over the place at the moment emotionally, really happy one minute and then scared and stressed the next, poor DH is finding it very difficult. Is anyone else experiencing this?

iliketosleep · 05/09/2007 09:32

hi angua i think everyone is like that at some point, it should pass soon enough congratulations on your little one being ok.

On a darker note, i've started bleeding again how annoying

gingercat12 · 05/09/2007 10:43

Iliketosleep Just take it easy today if at all possible.

derah · 05/09/2007 10:52

Iliketosleep - your little one was fine at your scan and will hopefully still be OK. Perhaps there was just more stuff that needed to come away? Call your mw anyway. Fingers crossed!

AnguaVonUberwald · 05/09/2007 10:56

likestosleep. Fingers crossed for you, its a horrible time waiting to see what will happen.

3madboys · 05/09/2007 11:09

(((iliketosleep))) thinking of you, fingers crossed baby is fine, he or she obviosly like sa bit of drama, rest up and hope you get to have another scan asap xxxx

imjin100 · 05/09/2007 11:48

good luck to all today, such fun getting happy news.
ILiketosleep, no advise cos I don't know but thinking of you.

happy days to all.

timmyinatizzy · 05/09/2007 11:48

Glad to hear that everyones scans have been good. Angua they said that at my nuchal scan but then they person doing the scan was able to get the measurement and thats why I was redated as it was smaller than 'my dates'. I wouldn't of minded going back for a second look a week later though.

Yardette how exciting for you and your dh. Were they able to tell you what flavour they were, or are you going to wait a bit longer to find out? I too secretly wanted twins, but will have to make do with my dp's twins instead!!! Yardette think you mentioned you were in Bromley too. I take it you'll be going to PRU hospital. Thats where I'll be.

We told my dsd's about the babay when we picked them up from their mum's last Friday, they were so happy when we told them the news the elder one started crying happy tears and the younger one keeps putting her ear to my belly to try and hear it moving!! So sweet. It was lovely to see them again. Can't believe how quickly 3 weeks have flown by. Its the longest we haven't seen them since they moved in with us last year. They've settled back down within a couple of days and happily went back to school yesterday.

iliketosleep · 05/09/2007 11:53

thanks all, im not going to bother with another scan as the waiting is horrible! Im going to my aunties later to see if she can find babies heartbeat with her doppler, should be able to 10+3?. Im not as worried this time though.

Bky · 05/09/2007 13:48

Afternoon everyone. Not been on her for ages. Had my scan last week and everything fine so far, am now 13 weeks. Got a fantastic picture very clear.

Sad that many people seem to have left since I last posted.

Can't believe this time last year I was on maternity leave patiently waiting for DD to make an appearance, she was due on 12th September.

ClaphamLauren · 05/09/2007 13:58

Had my Nuchal today and results were great, risk is 1 in 21,786 for Downs and 1 in 40,080 for the other thing that they do! Really happy )

Unfortunately, my now ex boyfriend told me he doesn't want to see or speak to me between now and the baby being born which I am finding really difficult to deal with. I am tempted to email his best friend who he is going out with tonight to see if she may speak to him for me as I can't believe he has done this! Would that be too intrusive?

imjin100 · 05/09/2007 14:05

Clapham Lauren, good news about the scans but sorry to hear about the ex boyfriend. As for asking for friend's help, I'd say it very much depends on your relationship with her, and how you've left it with him. He might be seriously narked off you're involving others (although frankly why shouldn't you) but equally if you can call her just for a chat it might be ok. Some men don't like 'dirty linen' in public, as it were and it might make the situation worse....but only you know the people involved. Sorry that isn't very helpful, it's a really tough one and I can't imagine how you must be feeling. Others on this thread will be much better able to help I feel so I just send you hugs.

imjin100 · 05/09/2007 14:08

oh by the way congrats BKY and Iliketosleep, I was reading up on these machines yesterday, if it's a shop bought one apparently it can be really hard to hear so don't be too disappointed....just saying so you don't hold out. I was thinking of buying one from Blooming whatsit but I figure the disappointment will be harder to take and just cause more worry for me!

preggersagain · 05/09/2007 15:20

i picked up the heartbeat at 9 weeks with my ebay cheapy doppler!! it may take a while but its so worth it when you hear it!
