It's not the best time to be out of a job that's for sure. I am trying not to be get too stressed about it though - don't want to hurt the baby in anyway.

Chewbacca · 26/07/2007 22:56

Hi all, I've only just discovered this thread. I'm 21 weeks pregnant with my 1st baby and I live in Edinburgh. Looking forward to my 20ish week scan on Monday but not looking forward to paying £150 for it . I noticed that some of you were discussing yoga - I've been to 2 classes at the yoga centre in Rodney St. The pregnancy yoga is on a wed evening and is not too expensive - £7 for a class or you can buy blocks of 5 or 10 classes which is cheaper.

Soberandsad · 30/07/2007 20:55

Hi All,

Also just discovered this thread I am 15 weeks pregnant with dc2, ds is 10 so feeling a bit nervous about starting all over again. Great to hear that there are so many of us about although judging by my work the whole world is pregnant at the moment!!

Absofruitly · 31/07/2007 23:32

Hi to all, just wanted to join the fun as am also an Edinburgh mum-to-be. I'm in week 22 and it's my first.

I also think it's a bloomin' disgrace (after reading a bunch of the other threads and seeing how the other half live down south) that we only get one scan on the NHS here. Has anyone gone private to check that everything's OK/find out the sex? Did you think it was worth the expense?

miniandme · 01/08/2007 09:26

We were going to pay for a 4d scan, ahd it booked for 26 weeks that would haev told us the sex of the baby too,it was £175 but.................. since finding out on monday that my baby is actually babies i will apparently now be entitled to a detailed scan at 20 weeks on the nhs so we are seriously considering cancelling the 4d as we will be told the sex of the twins at the detailed scan cause its multiples.Kinda makes sense to cancel and use the £175 for something else now theres 2 eh !!

Springflower · 01/08/2007 09:32

Hi there, I'm also from Edinburgh and have just found out that I'm expecting my 4th - have 3 DS already and just had miscarriage in March (and 2 before DC). I have had all mine at the RIE and I've been really happy with my care and the care at the EPU. I did get chucked out last time after about 5 hours and seeing virtually no-one though despite me having said I would like to stay in overnight (and having had epidural). I have had private nuchal scans in each pregnancy and had 20 week anomoly scans as well. A person doing the scans once told me that they were the most important so of course I then felt I couldnt not do it .....! I thought it was worth it for peace of mind but of course would prefer I got it on the NHS.

Babylovesmuffins · 01/08/2007 22:15

Hi to all the new Edinburgh ladies!!

I would definitely recommend a private scan although I do agree it's a disgrace that we only get one on the NHS throughout the whole pregnancy. I had an anomaly scan at Healthcare Now (on Stafford St) at 21 weeks and although it cost about £150, it was worth it for peace of mind to find out that everything was growing normally - they do detailed checks on the baby's heart, kidneys etc.

Wow Miniandme!! Twins eh?! That's great news! How are you feeling about it all? How did you find out? You must be excited about seeing the 2 LO's at your scan

I don't have much to report. Really enjoying second week of ML . LO due in 3 weeks time (ish) . Trying not to get too hung up on the actual due date

miniandme · 02/08/2007 09:03

We re obviously shocked, think its settling in a bit,we found out at our dating scnaon monday 30th,had no idea beforehand !!

Louise76 · 02/08/2007 19:13

Hi everyone, I had a 20 week scan at Healthcare Now on Monday and although I am angry at having to pay for it, I would recommend it. It was lovely to see the baby in so much detail and a great relief to hear that everything is as it should be. We chose not to find out the sex - I'll need something to keep me going during labour!

sheilaj · 11/10/2007 12:23

Hello all you Edinburgh mums-to-be. I'm new to these discussion forums and am expecting my first baby on March 14th. I'm 18 weeks today and currently mulling over the idea of booking a private 20 week scan. Any recommendations/tips/advice from anyone who has recently gone through this process would be very welcome, as would any tips on how to save a bit of money on the ridiculous price we're expected to pay for 'peace of mind'! Sometimes I wish I'd stayed in Fife !! Looking forward to hearing from other mums-to-be

gingerwench · 19/10/2007 11:45

Hi I'm in Edinburgh too but only 8 and bit weeks (due 29th May) I went to the GP at 6 weeks - anyone know when I'll get notice of my scan appointment is it 12 weeks or later?

mistythistle · 19/10/2007 12:02

Hi Gingerwench. Think the scans here are running at about 14 weeks now (had mine in August at 14 weeks). Dont know if this is your first pregnancy or not but just a warning that you dont get 20 week scans in Edinburgh on the NHS, so either prepare yourself for a long wait after 14 weeks to see your baby again or prepare to shell out £150 for the privilege at a private clinic!

The appointments are sent out automatically a few weeks before your scan date.

gingerwench · 19/10/2007 12:12

THANKS - yes it's my first one and I'm relatively new to Scotland too so just getting to grips with the changes. Think we may be forking out for the extra scan privately ...

ScottishMummy · 19/10/2007 12:29

live doon the road now, but boyfriend from edinburgh. know auld reekie v well

congratulations with pg everyone- wee scottish bairns on the way

sheilaj · 23/10/2007 14:28

We've booked our scan for next Wednesday (31st Oct) when we'll be 21 weeks. £150 at Healthcare Now, so will keep everyone posted. We're 20 weeks tomorrow and still no real sign of a baby bump! Hope everyone is doing well.

gingerwench · 23/10/2007 18:25

I've got my 12 week scan on the 19th November - can't wait until it all is a bit more real!

ihateironing · 25/02/2008 15:56

re nct classes- you could go to either but if your also looking to meet nearby friends id choose the closest ones to you.

K999 · 25/02/2008 16:07

I had dd2 in St Johns - she was 1 on Saturday. The hospital and the staff are fantastic! Unlike the ERI where I had dd1 eight years ago. It was such a terrible experience but I have heard that it has got better.....good luck to all who are expecting!!

happy40 · 22/07/2008 17:56
