No specific post-natal category so I've added it to the normal ante-natal category ...

I can hardly contain my excitement, this evening Father Christmas drove past my house organised by the local rotary club. I felt like a proper parent chasing down the road after him so we could get our photo taken lol

Zampa · 07/12/2017 19:51

Good luck @motherhippy16. Hope something happens over the weekend.

That sounds fun @theotherendofthesockportal. We're going to our nursery grotto on the 16th. A good photo tip I was told when DD1 was little was make sure you get a photo of your children with FC every year.

We're all still full of cold. Feel sorry for newborn lo who's a mouth breather. Have a vapour plug in for overnight and might have to suck out some snot (with a tube!).

Her eyes are really gummy. How often do you think I should clean them?

theotherendofthesockportal · 07/12/2017 20:47

@Zampa I wipe Bea's eyes with a piece of damp cotton wool every day. I'm all got taking a photo with F.C. every year!

Topsyloulou · 07/12/2017 21:25

@lydiangel83 I'd be pushing to see the doctor this week if I were you as it's been going on a few weeks already. Hope you get it sorted asap.

@theotherendofthesockportal we have a sleigh come round our village every year too. It was last night & I was desperate to take DS out to see it as he loved it last year but DP wasn't home & Iris was in the middle of her evening grazing & was most put out at having to stop feeding for me to answer the door to the lady from the rotary club saying they were there never mind having to go through the palaver of putting on coats etc & going out to see him. My Pil arrive next weekend from overseas so we're planning on doing a big family outing to see Father Christmas with them so they can see all the grandchildren getting excited. Just need to work out the best / quietest place to go.

@Motherhippy16 hope baby decides to put in an appearance over the weekend. DS was exactly two weeks late so I know how you're feeling.

GingerHanna · 08/12/2017 02:04

@MotherHippy16 how bloody frustrating! Fingers crossed (or not!) for your sweep.

@theotherendofthesockportal that’s a funny mental image! FIL is bringing his Santa outfit at Xmas - he plays Santa for the village every year as is a little chubby and has thick white beard and hair!

Got the all clear from midwife today. Abs are back together and only exhaustion now stopping me exercising. Will pick up a pair of jeans from C&A today as my Levi’s are a way off fitting but don’t want to spend too much money as hope to loose more weight still.

Apparently there is not much point in getting a new Mirena coil as it won’t be fitted until end Jan and will take a month or two to be fully effective so we would only have six months of protection before we start thinking about letting nature take its course again! Plus it is not free here...

butterybollocks · 08/12/2017 06:23

Ooo sock you've reminded me that our local rotary santa is coming next week (although last year he came at 8.30pm on a school night so all the kids on the street were asleep!).

I'm up pumping my boobs. I hate it. F went back to sleep after a feed at 5.10am and I have to set my alarm for 6am to pump before DH needs to get ready for work I'm trying to build up supply in the freezer so I can stop in about a month. It hurts and I'm cold and I could be asleep Angry

Hazandduck · 08/12/2017 10:35

@Zampa - Tilly had really sticky eyes at the start of this week and a Midwife suggested I put some breast milk on/in them, just let it soak in. She couldn’t even open one of them, the next morning they were completely clear! DH calls it “miracle milk!” 😂

Hazandduck · 08/12/2017 10:36

@Motherhippy sending hopeful labour inducing vibes your way! I had a long bath the night before I went in to labour...you’ve probably tried it though! X

Hazandduck · 08/12/2017 10:42

Has anyone else had a baby with tongue tie and had the tongue tie cut? Matilda had hers cut on Monday and it is a joy to feed her now. The first couple of days took adjusting but it really has transformed the way she feeds and no longer hurts!

lydiangel83 · 08/12/2017 14:45

@Hazandduck so pleased to hear feeding easier for you. I drove an hour each way to a tongue tie clinic earlier today only to find lay who does diagnosis wasn’t there. I properly cried in disappointment but have booked an appt with private lady on Monday. Liliana’s been told it is mild but my nipples are burning and this is the last thing I can think of (working on latch too).

lydiangel83 · 08/12/2017 14:46

@butterybollocks have you heard of a Haakaa? Collects milk from other boob whilst u are feeding. Only collects smallish amounts but all adds up!!

GingerHanna · 08/12/2017 16:51

@Hazardduck guess what happened today? Joseph was found to have posterior tongue tie and upper lip tie. Thankfully a specialist midwife was available and has cut them both a couple of hours ago. My little vampire is now nursing away after experimenting with his newly found tongue mobility! Really hoping his feeding and cramps will start improving now...

Zampa · 08/12/2017 16:52

Thanks for the tip @hazandduck.

LO and I have been in bed all day, trying to get over this cold. The house is a tip and we all need a wash! Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day!

OP posts:
Hazandduck · 08/12/2017 18:04

Know that feeling @Zampa, I’ve only showered and dressed in the last hour! I find I have to choose - do I want to nap, shower, do washing up, express some milk, do laundry or just sit and stare in to space during the window of time that Matilda lets me put her down! Everyone tells me it is normal to be in pjs all day!

Oh @Ginger I hope it helps you, the first couple of days were just learning how to adapt to it, she still hasn’t got used to having bottles again, but I’m just grateful she can nurse now and actually seems to be satisfied after, instead of feeding for sometimes hours at a time and still crying in hunger after like she was before! Joseph may have wind from not being able to latch well, Tilly did and it has already improved, she would make a clicking noise when she fed before and it has stopped now.

Tilly’s tongue tie was mild and @Lydia the lady that assessed her said mild ones can actually be more problematic. She used her finger to test Matilda’s latch and said you could tell by her lips after and how tight she was having to grip on to latch how much she was struggling. It sounds like you may well be having the same issue and having Liliana’s tongue tie cut could really help you! My nipples were absolutely burning it was agony through every feed. Well done for keeping going, I couldn’t bear it and was expressing milk in to bottles before the tie was cut. Fingers crossed this is a miracle solution for you!

Has anyone had any early smiles?? I thought it wasn’t possible but so many people have seen it and said it is real smiles she is doing, tonight when DH got home from work I said “ooh it’s Daddy!” And she did the biggest smiles it was so sweet and made little excited noises.
X

theotherendofthesockportal · 08/12/2017 19:21

@Hazandduck your description of your days has made me feel a million times better. I've been berating myself for not doing enough but you have just described my day where I have to carefully balance my decisions.

@Zampa you have my sympathy, I've now succumb to the lurgy. I hope you feel better soon. My throat is killing me and I sound like cheap sex phone operator. Was starving all day, took two mouthfuls of my dinner and felt worse. I've left Bea with DH and have come to bed.

Zampa · 08/12/2017 19:57

That's gorgeous @hazandduck! I get little sleepy smiles but no social smiles just yet. It took DD1 until 5 weeks adjusted to give me a proper social smile and it was such a special feeling.

Get well soon @theotherendofthesockportal. Baby has thrown up on me/the bed 3 times today and I feel so sorry for her.

OP posts:
lydiangel83 · 08/12/2017 21:10

Thanks @Hazandduck that’s good to hear. I broke down in public earlier after driving an hour each way to tongue tie clinic only to be told there was no one there today to assess tongue tie. Have a private appt on Monday so fingers crossed for that!

lydiangel83 · 08/12/2017 21:10

Get well soon @Zampa sounds horrible :(

Motherhippy16 · 09/12/2017 11:23

Well that sweep was ridiculously painful! Even the midwife was saying how she found it difficult to get her (very long) fingers to where they needed to be! She could only do a little sweep as his head is so low. Good news is my cervix has thinned to about 1cm from 3cm so things are going the right way. Just been cramping and back ache for the last 24 hours but no definite signs. Really think it will have to be induction on Tuesday now which I really didn't want. Am putting all the Christmas decs up today which I really wanted baby here for so feeling very disheartened atm. Much love to everyone x

Zampa · 09/12/2017 12:33

Sounds like a natural labour may be imminent @motherhippy16. Don't give up hope yet!

DP has just run me a bubble bath. Unfortunately he put the jacuzzi jets on and now there is more bubble than bath!

OP posts:
theotherendofthesockportal · 09/12/2017 13:20

@Motherhippy16 I am keeping everything crossed for you that you will get to hold your baby soon. Are you the last one out of our group, or is there anyone else?

@Zampa I am envious of your jacuzzi bath! I hope you are nice and relaxed now.

I'm feeling rough! I don't have the strength to pick Bea up and move round the house. We are spending the day in our bedroom. I've sang the wheels on the bus to her, which is her favourite song about 50 Times. She seems to like my husky voice. I've even invented new verses such as cats and dogs on the bus.

I've also instructed my husband to buy me a Macdonslds on his way home. When I'm under the weather I always crave Maccies.

Motherhippy16 · 09/12/2017 13:38

Thank you all.... yes I think I am the last one as I was due on the 30th Nov anyway (which now seems like a lifetime ago!) We have just brought our Christmas tree and will spend the afternoon getting all Christmas stuff ready. Maybe the thought of missing out on Christmas will get him moving! X

Zampa · 09/12/2017 15:23

@theotherendofthesockportal Hope that you are feeling better soon. LO and I spent the day in bed yesterday and feel much better for it.

Topsyloulou · 09/12/2017 20:51

The thought of a day in bed sounds like heaven although obviously not the being ill but. Hope you're feeling better soon @theotherendofthesockportal.

Loving the sound of the jacuzzi bath @Zampa. I'm getting really sore shoulders & neck muscles from holding Iris so much. She's not even that heavy yet! Currently sat in bed with a hot water bottle on my shoulders, very rock & roll!

DP went out last night & didn't get home until 4.30 am as he decided to walk the 5 miles home on dark country roads rather than wait for a cab. I was less than impressed as you can imagine. I asked him to get up with DS tomorrow so I can catch up on some sleep & he had the cheek to ask if that meant I was doing all the night feeds then Angry. Hope everyone else's oh's are being more supportive.

theotherendofthesockportal · 09/12/2017 21:27

Thanks ladies. I feel much better and certainly more hygienic since I had a bath with a lush bath bomb.

DH has taken Bea since 6pm, she immediately fell asleep when he picked her up to give her a cuddle and has remained asleep since he put her down in her basket. I'm delighted that she is asleep but crying with frustration that she is so good for him. She will only sleep on me and howls if I put her down. Doesn't help that DH is ever so slightly smug about his magic parenting touch.
