So sorry Spinning (((hugs)))

LadyGoneGaga · 31/10/2013 12:32

Really sorry to hear that, Spinning. Be kind to yourself and take some time off work next week if you need to. It's such a blow. Hope to see you on another board soon.

Jessie hopefully it's just a little implantation bleed if it has stopped now. Early pregnancy such a headfuck.

I'm totally paranoid today as have been feeling crampy. No blood or anything but have been compulsively knicker checking. I suspect it's just stretching but it's so disconcerting. Only 11 days until my reassurance scan.

MrsB varies by person but tends to kick off around 6 weeks IIRC. I'm not far off six weeks now and feeling hungover al the time. Without the benefit of booze. At lunchtime I just wanted to go and lie down under my desk.

LadyGoneGaga · 31/10/2013 19:30

And try not to worry. A lot of people get lucky and never feel sick. And a lot of people post exactly what you did and then a week later really wish they were back feeling ok again.

grobagsforever · 31/10/2013 20:56

Good evening all, room for another? Just got a BFP on a superdrug. EDD 11th July. Have one DD who is 3. In shock right now!!

MrsB2013 · 31/10/2013 22:31

Hi Grobags congratulations and welcome! I will add you to the list!

Thanks Lady I really don't want to get ms but want to be prepared for roughly when it happens! I've got a bit of heartburn tonight and tiredness again!

Is it too early to buy pregnancy books? Can anyone recommend some?

MrsB 20!3 I used to what to expect when you are expecting first time round. Very useful reference indeed, highly recommend.

jaykay987 · 01/11/2013 05:35

I have that one. It's good - very technical - seems a little American even in the uk version (e.g. Explanation of what will happen at your monthly midwife meeting. Don't know about you, but we certainly won't be getting contact that frequent).

I also have the free app, which includes a short version of "what's happening this week" to baby and body. I get DH to read this as a new week begins. Im reading the book and just verbally updating him on anything not included in the app which I think he needs to know.

I think I need a baby book, rather than pregnancy. I feel so unprepared, but the opinions on baby books seem to be so polar! So any recommendations please let me know!

jaykay987 · 01/11/2013 05:59

FYI......Im putting myself on a testing ban!

I've waited all week and just used my final CB digi. It still says 2-3 weeks!!!! Using lmp Im 6+4, using ov dates Im 6w today. Either way I should be 3+ by now.
I've got my scan next Friday....so I need to try and not worry between now and then.
I must not buy more tests...........
I must not buy more tests...........
And repeat
I must not buy more tests............

ladybunnikins · 01/11/2013 08:34

Tentatively joining if I may, I got my BFP yesterday but it's still really early. It's IVF and official test day isn't until Tuesday.

Jaykay please don't panic. Remember I looked at your chart. And I think you might have ovved 3 days later than FF says as you had those temps which were taken later? Would fit with your peak readings. And would also fit with you getting a later than normal BFP. I think you might be actually due just a few days later. Also, don't forget the Digital ones are based on thresholds set based on averages. The nature of stats mean some people will have lower readings and some higher. I think the Digital ones are a bit evil as they cause a lot of panic (although I fall for it too). Hopefully your scan will set your mind to rest. Early pregnancy IS horrible I think. Just so much to worry about.

Pregnancy and baby books - I have a lot from my first pregnancy! But I would say most of the baby books WILL make you feel bad. You'll be constantly panicking because your baby isn't doing what the book says it should do. The problem is your baby is an individual and hasn't read the books! Sometimes I think muddling through and finding your own way of doing things is best. Also baby books are so political - are you a strict routine or an attachement person? The other way is inevitably wrong and harmful and they all seem calculated to make vulnerable new Mums feel bad in some ways for not being good enough.

Sorry for ranting - there is lots of good info out there but a whole load of unrealistic expectations and guilt out there too.

The pregnancy ones I like are the ones that focus on babies development but there are so many briliant websites now for that. What to Expect a really good reference for both pregnancy and babies but as Jaykay says is a bit American. I also have Your Pregnancy Bible by Anne Deans, Birtha nd Beyond by Yehudi Gordon. A book about Breastfeeding could be helpful too depending how you are planning to feed. The womanly art of brestfeeding meant to be really good but I haven't read.

LadyGoneGaga · 01/11/2013 08:39

Wow, sorry for the essay!

As far as books go I agree with lady about the baby books being depressing. They depressed me because their 'solutions' weren't as easy to implement as they said (with regard to my ds and sleep for instance). Also he quickly fell behind in relation to milestones for communication. Hmm

As far as books go I agree with lady about the baby books being depressing. They depressed me because their 'solutions' weren't as easy to implement as they said (with regard to my ds and sleep for instance). Also he quickly fell behind in relation to milestones for communication. Hmm Baby book authors also seem so smug and competent they dont do much for ones self esteem.

So I would say borrow from the library so if you don't like them you haven't wasted your money. Also I preferred to ask hv, my mum, friends, mn and google for advice :)

I borrowed some pregnancy books when I had ds. What to expect was one. There was also one humorous one that I can't remember the name of which was good as it was light hearted.

jessieagain · 01/11/2013 09:10

I also really recommend Birthskills I think it's called. It is written by a physiotherapist if I remember correctly and is excellent in describing labour/birth and is very positive and practical.

LadyGoneGaga · 01/11/2013 09:11

Yes, it was something I never realised until I had two. What your baby does and when (sleeping, eating, milestones) is bugger all to do with what you DO. It's much more to do with WHO your baby is. DS and DD were so different as babies - one a non-sleeping, incredibly needy, cuddly baby who would not be put downn, the other a placid baby who napped for hours and needed her space. Nothing to do with me! Similarly I realised that smug friends who had first babies who slept through were very quickly desmugged when they had non-sleeping second babies and realised they weren't amazing parents after all, just lucky!

MrsB2013 · 01/11/2013 10:09

I have got the What to expect app on my phone, which is quite good. I don't want to read too much and overload my brain lol

With baby books, I'm not sure I want to read those as all babies are so different. I do have a few friends with babies, so might be best to speak to them. Because I love my sleep, you can guarantee I'll have a baby that doesn't sleep through the night lol

I'd be interested in a breastfeeding book, I'd like to do it, but I don't mind if I end up bottle feeding.

And with the poas addiction, I'm going to use my last CB digi tomorrow! Hoping it will say 3+ but we'll see!!

Hope everyone is ok!!
