After reading all your posts I am now bidding on the GF book on Ebay! I never really thought about it all before but I can see how getting a good routine early on would be a good idea!

Homemamma - I just bought some velcro sandals and they are a Godsend! My feet have been swelling up pretty badly during the day and my usual shoes just aren't comfy any more. I even went so far as buying some nail varnish for my toes (the sandals are open toe) but am now wondering if I'm going to be able reach

Tassis - I've seen a couple of glider chairs on Ebay which look nice but I can't afford one just yet. I'll definitely get one nearer the time though.

It's 31 degrees here at the moment (North Yorkshire). Hot hot hot! The only good side to it is that I can just about manage to justify the need for a tub of Haagan Daas

Lysettes · 05/07/2006 19:13

you poor things i nthe heat now - i've taken to draping wet towels round my shoulders - really helping as well!

it's sooooo much cooler here now - i'm right by a window and have a wonderful breeze that is helping.

consultant has got my hopes up that i'll be given a couple of hours out at the weekend if my bp is stable - and of course the next reading it shot through the roof but fingers crossed.

and talking of bikini waxes and painted toes - i had a final bikini and leg sorting out booked for the end of july - last treat before coming in at 35 weeks - that's gone out the window now, and i am having to put on and take off surgical stockings every day for showers, so am struggling this evening to reach my toes - I WILL DO IT!!!!!

homemama those shoes sound like a godsend, although i've resorted to really cheap flip flops - remember to put them in your bags everyone, they're the best thing for being in hospital. And I'm happy to say that although i packed my dettox wipes as suggested on MN, I've not needed to use them - pleasantly surprised that everything here is cleaned at least 3 times a day!

Anyway, enough for me - thanks for the harrison ford confessions - was a bit worried i was really abnormal for a bit!

lol and keep cooking!

Hi everyone,

I think I had a braxton hicks contraction this evening but I'm not sure as I've not had this pain before. It was really low and the pain spread across to my hips and felt a bit like a period pain. Does this sound like a braxton hicks?
It didn't last long but it just panicked me as I started worrying that something was wrong and it was painful!

appyday · 05/07/2006 21:10

Thanks for the advice on getting DD to sleep. She has just fallen asleep after we took her upstairs at 7:10-in bed for 7:45, so 1 hr of going up every 10 mins tonight. I completely go along with the overtired bit as I am struggling to get her to nap during the day, so will try early upstairs and longer wind down. Also will do rapid return as she is now getting out of bed, before she just lay in bed and cried. The biting I hope is tiredness,as I don't have a travel cot and naughty corners/steps have had no effect at all-she even takes herself off there.
But thank you all, support and sympathy go a long way to maintaining sanity.
1st day at work today after holiday, don't know if I can keep going until 1st Sept,DH wants me to finish earlier, mid Aug, but I keep thinking that just means less time off after. Think I'm suffering post holiday blues, although finishing early is soooo tempting(goes off in a dream).
Finally, glad to hear everyone is getting the weather they wished for. We have had rain all day in Wilts, and the temp down to 20C, heaven. Am really looking forward to bed tonight, esp as DD is in her own room. Oh yeah, am I the only one who has carried on, nay, DEMANDED sex in the last 6 months?

pol26 · 05/07/2006 21:18

Glad your DD has settled... we have had a few unsettled nights with our DD, due to the heat I think and my paranoia now i'm preg in having to check her when usually I don't. I know how tiring it can be with a little one up at night! And we're all just about to do it all again.

Yes, I too have been wanting more 'ahem' than usual. Normally it's DP snuggling up but since been preg it's been me, maybe because it's a boy???!!! Although I must say the hot weather has given him a reprieve!

slightly cooler here but not enough for my liking, still hot and sticky and no breeze which would be heavenly at the mo. Feel like a weirdo hanging around air conditioned shops!

Also feeling abit of a fraud as I finish work on Friday- I will be 30 weeks on Monday. But after today feel justified! Plus want to spend time with DD before bubba arrives.

HellKat · 06/07/2006 03:32

Morning all.
Grrrrrrr pg insomnia! Keep getting boiling hot feet & having 2 fans on seems to make no difference so last 4 days I've been grabbing 3 hrs in the afternoon. I'll be so pleased when this heat lifts.
Had my consultants appt yesterday & looks like we'll be meeting our little girl alot earlier than Sept! They're overly concerned about her size (being too big) as I'm now measuring nearly 3 wks ahead. Apparently, because I'm only small built, I should technically measure 1 week behind. Anyhoo, we've got to go for another growth scan in 3 wks, see the consultant the week after & take it from there. As I'm still 2cms dilated though & still having odd contractions (plus she's decided to engage herself) it could be earlier. Good thing is they're not concerned about me labouring early now they know she's a big lass
How's everyone coping with this icky heat?
Love to all, I'm off back to my pint of Dr Pepper & about to munch yet more ice cubes (going through a huge a bag every 3 days )

Coriander73 · 06/07/2006 08:29

Appyday...demanded sex??? You gotta be kidding I have had DH on a strict diet since Jan....

clairemow · 06/07/2006 09:53

hey Appyday - glad you had a better evening with DD - I hope you got a full night's sleep for her, if not for you!! DS went through a phase of getting up out of bed too, but the novelty wore off (although we did eventually have to admit that putting him back ala Tanya Byron wasn't working, he was playing a game with us... and resort to having to let him cry - but it only took 2 evenings to sort completely then.) Good luck tonight, and good luck with the nap (found the same thing about getting out then... and had to just leave him to it - one day it took him an hour to go to sleep...!!).

Lysettes, I hope the bp lets you out at the weekend. It must be so boring.. are you able to get up and wander about at all (you could always meet a nice prisoner from next door... we were at QC last time and the walls were a bit intimidating..).

Still suffering with hip ache which wakes me up despite what feels like hundreds of pillows supporting feet and knees..

Re. the "other" - after 6 months of no interest from me at all, suddenly I am rather interested quite a lot!! I remember this from last time at about 30 weeks - I am 32 1/2 now. It's DH's lucky month!! I have found also that it helps me go to sleep, which has been becoming a problem...

Good news I want to share, I have a new niece this morning! My SIL had a little girl last night, all well and healthy. Hurray!

clairemow · 06/07/2006 09:55

Forgot to say Hellkat, my SIL told me at the weekend she was 3 cm dilated at her last check, 3 weeks ago, and only had the baby yesterday - so thinking of you, and hoping you can hold on just a bit longer... xx

Oh, and Myrtle, that sounds exactly like a Braxton Hicks.

calvemjoe · 06/07/2006 10:35

Hope everyone is feeling a bit better in the cooler weather today.
Hellkat, I've been sitting with a frozen hot water bottle on my feet to cool them down and it's really helped.

Clairemow, congrats on your neice.

Lysettes, still thinking about you.

MAndaz, I treated myself to a pedicure last week because my toes (and the ground) are just too far away

Liquid, My dh is useless at sticking to routine too. I agree, it really is a pain when you spend all week trying to get LO's sleeps and feeds structured and they are too lazy to stick to it at weekends.

Keep looking after the bumps, and hellkat and lysettes, try to keep them in there just a bit longer!

Bella23 · 06/07/2006 11:50

Gosh all this talk of sex...........have to admit its a distant memeory for me!! Have been waiting for all these hormonal urges to kick in but in this heat I think that is probabloy impossible!

Lysettes - hope the BP stays down so you can get out for a few hours this weekend. Poor you in your surgical stockings.........have a lovely image in my head now.

Clairmow - a fellow sufferer of hip ache, its really annoying isn't it? I also slept with a bizarre collection of pillows last night which helped a little but still there!
Congrats on the neice - arh

Homemama - thanks for the tip on the ball, think I shall invest in one this weekend from Argos, it might even help with my hips etc

Hellkat - sounds like even if your little one joins us early that she is cooking nicely ahead of schedule. Stil keeping fingers crossed that its a while yet.

Well not a lot else to report here.........roll on the weekend and some nice rain

pol26 · 06/07/2006 19:49

Hey ladies!

It has finally cooled a little here- I actually shut the bedroom window at 5am!!! Yeah! But seems to be getting hotter again.

For all the ladies with high bp and nearly ready to burst- keep your legs crossed just a little longer!

Not seeing mw again until week 32, I will be 30 weeks on Monday. Worried slightly- prob for no reason, but last time with DD saw her every week from week 27 as I had high bp and serve swelling, this time however I would say the swelling is a little less and the bp is a little lower. Feel worse this time tho- how crazy is that???!

appyday · 06/07/2006 21:10

Just a quickie. DD took 1hr last night but at 3am a major thunderstorm brought her into our bed, which I can forgive, esp as she fell straight asleep. Tonight she had long calm wind down and has gone off immediately- with promise of prezzie in morning. Off to bed myself soon so watch this space...

Coriander73 · 07/07/2006 09:51

Morning...

Strange thing happened to me in the night....I found myself having an erotic dream.. When I woke up I felt very odd but alas, I didn't actually have the urge to do anything about it even though I was staring at DH who was fast asleep naked!! All this talk of sex etc must have been playing on my mind.....wierd or not so??

Also had strong BX last night & for a moment felt quite nervous -not that I was going into labour- but of what lies ahead etc!!!

clairemow · 07/07/2006 12:03

Great news Appyday, so I hope you've cracked it!!

Thank god the heat has been turned down! I even waited at school gates a while ago and stood quiet happily in the cool rain tho. I still feel as if I have a raging furnace in me but know it's not so bad as the weather is cooler and the sun isn't blazing anymore.

My last morning with mindee!!! Yeah!!! He has been sweet tho, got DD to give him a set of scooby doo figures (he loves scooby) and a new sippy bottle to take to school. He was so sweet. But glad that i've called it a day now, just feeling so pooped with it all and all the to-ing and fro-ing.

Had a few sharp pains this morning and felt a little worried. But they stopped after twenty mins- phew!

Ladies who need to - keep your legs crossed still!!! And for those with the sickness returning- poor you! I am hoping (touch wood) that it hads run its course with me and no more sickness.

pol26 · 07/07/2006 14:34

Also got a big box of ferrero rocher from mindee so i'm sat scoffing them now!

Woodelf · 07/07/2006 18:47

Hi everyone,

Took me ages to catch up with the posts - work so busy don't seem to have the time to catch up -thankfully finish at the end of this month!

Lots of 'stay put' vibes to babes wanting to enter the world early - keep on cooking. Talking of cooking the weather hasn't exactly helped...
Feet and ankles swelled but only a bit and the mw said I should have a 2 hour nap daily - fat chance till the end of the month!

Found out local hospital (Mayday) will have a nice new birth centre in place with 4 water pools and lots of midwives - given what I had heard in the past this is a blessed relief for a nervous first timer

V sharp pain earlier today around the rib - could that be a foot? B Painful i must say...

Sorry its such a long post - hugs to you all

clairemow · 07/07/2006 20:43

Woodelf, 2 hour nap every day??!?! When???!!!! Does the midwife want to come round, look after DS1 while I have it????

Been getting a foot (I think) in the ribs as well. Sometimes kicks really hard. Think he'll be a footballer.

Norms, so sorry to hear about the sickness again. Have you been to the doctor - can they give you an injection to stop it at all? Like you, I'm becoming an insomniac as well, took a good 3 hours to drop off and lots of swearing last night, then DH woke up really early and was fidgeting, so was awake again before 7. DS is getting far more sleep than me at the moment.. DH says he'll sleep in the spare room tonight, and let me have a lie in tomorrow. Thank God.

Lysettes · 08/07/2006 15:11

hey ladies - thanks so much for all the great wishes and thinking of me - it really does mean a lot!

they let me out for the afternoon! I left at just before 1, and don't have to be back till nearly 7pm!!!! Fish and chips for lunch and doing nothing all afternoon - bliss not to be staring at the prison.

have had a couple of babies born to the ladies in my bay in the hospital, but one poor italian lady has been in since tuesday being induced and nothing - she reckons she'll give birth while the world cup final is on, just to spite her DH!

Anyway, for those of you with swollen feet and legs, it's the heat - mine have come up again and the gorgeous stockings are doing nothing for it, and i still have to keep them on

anyway, off for a nap, and stay well and getting lucky lots, those of you wanting to!

lol

Lysettes · 08/07/2006 15:12

o'h and has anyone else had stretch marks yet? spotted my first ones this morning

calvemjoe · 08/07/2006 18:55

No stretch marks yet Lysettes, but I didn't get them till I was a week overdue with ds [the injustice of it all emoticon]

Anyone else really hormonal? I just can't stop crying and I'm so short tempered. Not with ds, but with everyone else. DH and people I work with and I have no patience with customers on the phone either, i'm not going to have a job to go to at this rate I'm very tired so think this may be a contributing factor, as dh has just started a new job and is rarely at home.

8 weeks and 3 days and my lo will be due to arrive and all I've got to do is buy a house, decorate and move in

Work is stressing me out too at the mo. They won't aggree to let me have my holiday before mat leave commences. They have no choice, cause they won't pay me for it so I'm having it, but they are really stressing me out by not saying yes to me now and I want to shout at my teamleader everytime she tries to fob me off with an excuse.

Thanks for letting me vent. Look after those bumps and those of you trying to give birth early, keep on cooking x

homemama · 08/07/2006 19:57

Same here with stretchmarks. None yet this time but didn't get any until 39.5wks last time. Thankfully, I only got four small ones and they're quite low down so in theory I could have gone back to wearing hipster trousers if I hadn't also acquired a flabby tummy.

Glad they let you out for a while, Lysettes. Hope you enjoyed your afternoon!

Sorry you're sick too, Norms. It didn't come back forme last time so I'ma bit disappointed it has this time.

Hi to everyone!

mabel1973 · 08/07/2006 20:51

Hi all

Got back today from our hols - I have tried to catch up on posts, but there's so much to read and I have SO much washing to do - i just don't have time!
Had a fab time - DH took DS 'surfing' (pulled him along on his board in the shallows) he loved it!
Cori - Jamie O's 15 restaurant at Watergate Bay was fab - I would highly reccomend it, everything from the food to the service and atmosphere was lovely, they even bought me a cushion over for my back.
Didn't want to come home.....
But now the holiday is over I feel like the next big thing is BABY! Have decided that this week I am going to get out all the baby stuff from the attic and wash it, and start buying stuff for my hopital bag, I feel like it's getting very near now...!
