I'm due 2 feb according to the scan. I was planning on roughing out 2 weeks after Xmas if I am physically able. I have no commute and work in an office so hopefully it could be possible. And then I'll have more to tack on the end.

I have a feeling this bubba won't be timely so if I went at Christmas I could end up with 6 weeks on my own in the house. No other kids and DH will be out from 7 to 7 at least. Might go stir crazy.

Am I being too optimistic?

Good luck with the self-employment Gnitting! It's a big scary step but awesome, especially after an unrelenting string of arsehole bosses.

I've put my etsy shop on holiday last week after a bit of a meltdown due to some veeeery long days, but as my stuff is made to order its 2 weeks in lieu so I have a while to wait until I get a mini-break! (which will be spent painting the freshly plastered upstairs. No bloody rest for the wicked) At least there's light at the end of the tunnel though - once DIY is done i will sleep solidly for 2 days before starting it back up!

God knows what I can do about maternity leave though as I pass off as much as I can on to others but a lot I have to do myself, which is a bit of a design flaw. I may not get much of a break at all and DH will end up doing most of the care, which he will adore but I will be hugely envious of. I'm meant to be planning for valentines day and mother's day campaigns now (!) but it could be a bit bloody hectic round my gaff in Feb so not sure what to do!

There we go. That was bloody dull, apologies everyone. I'm going to bed.

misskatamari · 03/09/2013 21:06

Gnitting they are awesome thanks!!! I will deffo need to try and knit some! Currently making crochet granny squares for a baby blanket and attempting to make a scarf for my nephew but my baby needs duck feet!

Cubano - I'm tempted to try and do a week after Christmas if they sort my cover person out as think a bit of handover period would be good but who knows whether school would be okay with it. That would mean Christmas break, 1 week in then 3 weeks off before baby is due. I'm hoping ill be able to take a year off almost and go back a week or two before Christmas. That is finances permitting tho. The thought of going back for the start of sept with a 6 month old for the horrid winter term just fills me with horror tho so fingers crossed we can manage Smile

Ooooh I'm gonna be brave and watch the midwives now!

marzipanned · 03/09/2013 21:08

Champagne - Def not too early to be on countdown, I have been since week 7! Grin

Am really impressed with you being back at work, I am freaking out this evening because we've got a workman coming over at 9am tomorrow and I'll have to be up, showered and dressed by then Blush

watching midwives bbc 2. actually making me excited rather than shit scared!

EeyoreIsh · 03/09/2013 21:15

loving the discussion about maternity leave, good to hear others' plans. I have a horribly long commute (90 min train journey each way) so if I do go back after Xmas I'll just be working from home mostly.

I've got proper pregnancy brain today. I've been so ditsy. I went for a driving lesson with DH and I kept messing up so I pulled over and refused to go any further! Then I got home and spilt water all over myself. Such a muppet Grin

misskatamari · 03/09/2013 21:15

It's good to see natural births in this one as its what I'm hoping for but oh my god it's making me realise I'm gonna have to get a baby out! OH MY GOD!!!

marzipanned I hope you manage a good nights sleep and feel okay in the morning. Hope you start feeling less rough soon

Sassy20 · 03/09/2013 21:15

Coat and jeans bought! Smile

My work is sadly very inflexible so when I was 33 weeks preg with dd I was struggling with hour long drive in rush hour (as well as getting caught in horrendous snow which meant it took four hours to get home)!!! I also suffered from bad back as think dd was lying on a nerve - got no sympathy from boss at all so had to take mat leave early Hmm If it was now to be honest I'd just get signed off so wouldn't waste my mat leave. I definitely don't think it's too early to start the countdown. Grin X

littlestgirlguide · 03/09/2013 21:17

I've just made DH turn midwives off! I can face the idea of going through that myself but I don't want to know what I look like while I'm doing it!

Sassy20 · 03/09/2013 21:17

MissKat - I felt exactly the same when I watched obem when I was heavily pregnant with dd but somehow you manage when it comes to it. Smile

tinypolkadot · 03/09/2013 21:21

I'm watching the midwives, can't believe the husband of that Russian woman!

The water birth looked amazing.

Also loving that snood, I can't wait for autumn!

gnittinggnome · 03/09/2013 21:23

ps missk am thinking of making them in green, for frog-feet, and possibly something novelty for monster feet! Yes, I knit too much :-)

barebranches · 03/09/2013 21:27

i know the russian woman who doesnt eat cooked food!!! no scan either!! bet he makes her give birth in silence!Grin

misskatamari · 03/09/2013 21:34

Ooooh gnitting that sounds fab! I may be giving you a shout for help when I attempt it and balls it up! Smile

tinypolkadot · 03/09/2013 21:34

Grin bare

dried apricots as her sole source of iron? Poor woman.

No scan! I couldn't believe it, I'd have sulked for weeks or probably just gone by myself and not told him!

misskatamari · 03/09/2013 21:38

I know! "The scan hurts the baby" - wtf?!!

Lol I bet being told to "have a couple of paracetamol and have a nice warm bath" would make you wanna punch someone!

misskatamari · 03/09/2013 21:42

That Russian lady is totally making sex noises!

tinypolkadot · 03/09/2013 21:43

Oh how nice, he'll let her have pain relief if she needs it!

Surprised he's allowed her to be filmed to be honest.

misskatamari · 03/09/2013 21:54

Lol DH's face is a picture watching this Grin

LittlePandaBear · 03/09/2013 22:00

I'm getting all emotional watching all the newborns!

I think it has confirmed my decision to have another section though. I don't think I'd cope well with a natural labour and all of the uncertainty. I will just want baby out as quick as possible and I already have the scar from last time so it may as well get used again!

There's no nice way of getting them out though, eek.

vix206 · 03/09/2013 22:37

Have a couple of paracetamol was the only pain relief I was offered. And yes, I did want to punch midwife in the face. Repeatedly. For the entire 16 hours. Grin

Bearfrills · 03/09/2013 22:44

I got told to take paracetamol too!

I'd been in labour with DS for 24hrs, went to hospital to find I was only 2cm dilated ("2?! Check again please ... "), was told I could either stay and go for a walk or go home. I opted to go home and was told "have two paracetamol and a warm bath and try get some sleep".

An hour later I told DH "get out of bed and take me back that hospital NOW!" - 5cm dilated and admitted straight to delivery suite, much better :o

Secretly, you can have stronger drugs when pregnant. At 18wks with DS I had back spams for almost a week and was told if they didn't stop I could have morphing injected into the muscle to relax it. Then at 26wks I fell over getting out of the bath, I twisted my knee, whacked my bump on the edge of the tub, my head on the sink and my shoulder in the floor. They gave me codeine.
