Will this one take us through to the end of the first trimester? Will the sickness ever end? Will we be able to judge genders from those first scan pictures? These and many other mysteries to be solved in... THREAD 4

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
pinksky · 25/03/2013 10:54

Excellent, Hayle! Funny how so many of us have had scan buddies.

roofio87 · 25/03/2013 10:57

why am I watching this woman on this morning talking about how awful childbirth was for her and it left her incontinent and ruined her marriage!?!! Confused

Sal1977 · 25/03/2013 11:02

Morning ladybugs.

Doing OK here, on my back under the duvet in the sofa!

I had a call from the nurse practitioner from my drs surgery as the out of hours team had passed my details back to them after my call to them yesterday. She was so lovely, calling to see how I was doing and trying to reassure me that its not necessarily the worst, but if it is that they will look after me and support us if we want to try again. I can't tell you how impressed I have been with the people I've seen.

In all honesty I'm not hopeful (but maybe that's just self preservation kicking in) and have been reading up on fertility after MC. Best to be prepared eh?

Anyway, good luck to those who have scans today, lets get some happy reports on here this arvo!!

Rockchick1984 · 25/03/2013 11:08

Roofio if it was normal for that to happen, she wouldn't be on the TV talking about it! Step away from the horror stories Grin Seriously though, I had a couple of weeks after having DS where I thought I'd never want sex again (episiotomy, general post-birth nastiness) but we were "intimate" again within 5 weeks of the birth, and within 6 months it was like I'd never been pregnant :)

Sal you never know what's going on with your little bean until you get the scan - has the bleeding got worse / any cramping? Rest as much as you can today, and hopefully all will be fine tomorrow. Have you had any early scans already this pregnancy?

SeriousStuff · 25/03/2013 11:21

pinksky and Haylebop - mine is at 11am. Just need Easter out of the way now!

I've technically already had my 12 week scan but was only 10+3 at the time (I did warn them!) so this will hopefully be my last until the 20 week one! I'll be 13+3 on the 9th (I think).

Having said that, my MIL has offered to give me a scan over Easter as well. She works in an antenatal unit but not sure how I feel about it - should I be having this many scans (have already had 3 due to concerns at the beginning)? Also, would you want your MIL doing your scan? Would it be too much? We get on great, don't get me wrong.

SeriousStuff · 25/03/2013 11:22

Sal you sound like me - always preparing for the worst! But it's far from over yet and I hope your scan will give you some good news.

roxvox · 25/03/2013 12:06

Congratulations doobeedee! I hope I get put forward too Smile

Good luck today Jethro! Keep us updated!

Same here natalieand re nose blowing. Always masses of blood, sometimes hard clumps of it, but no actual nose bleeds.

Good luck to everyone having scans today!

34PinkLadyApple · 25/03/2013 12:50

Congrats on the scan and date pull forward doob Just goes to show that when TTC we are all so different in terms of when we ovulate. I was super early, like CD8!

Good luck jethro and sorry you MIL is a cow nat

SILLY PANIC ALERT! I'm 13.4 weeks and yesterday I had period style cramping for a good few hours. Really quite painful! I began googling like mad as this is the first time I've had any type of cramping since BFP... Thought it might be stretching pains but google came up with all sorts and i couldn't pin point it for how many weeks I am. At the same time I also got very itchy skin just above my pubes. It was very embarrasing as I was in Tesco and couldn't leave it alone Blush. I must have looked like a right scummy cow scatching my 'bits' in Tesco Grin. Anyway, I got a hot bottle on tummy when I got home then had a 2 hour nap and felt fine when I woke up. I kept pant checking for spotting all day though. Nothing thank god. Anyone else getting cramps and itchey skin just above pubes?

JellyCurls · 25/03/2013 12:58

Me too 34 very itchy made worse by shaving a little too much before scan Blush also got very itchy scalp so I am just one big itch just now.

No cramping but bad SPD and can't get a hold of a midwife.

roxvox · 25/03/2013 13:08

34pinkladyapple I seem to get stomach cramps quite regularly, sometimes quite bad (although never bad enough that I am doubled over or anything). According to my MW, unless it is so bad that you're unable to do anything (like get out of bed) and/or you get bleeding then it is nothing to worry about. I imagine that if you've not had cramps since your BFP then it would be quite scary though.

As for the itching - could that be a coincidence? I have been getting itchy ankles lately, but that doesn't really help you much I don't suppose.

pinksky · 25/03/2013 13:15

apple could it just be itching because the ligaments are stretching and the skin is stretching a little too? I've had slightly drier skin but being careful about what I put on--just aveeno at the mo.

Sal glad you're home under the duvet and that you've had good care. Think anyone who has to visit the epau plans for the worst. I told the sonographer that I was certain she wouldn't find anything. Just self preservation as you say.

serious I don't know about being scanned by MIL but then we don't have that kind of relationship! Would you be happy to have her in a scan with you? Or in an examination? People have very different feelings about limiting scans, so up to you how you feel about that.

Wickedgirl · 25/03/2013 13:24

I am 11+5 today and had my booking in this morning. It took just over 2 hours! I have my next scan on 5th April when I'll be 13+2

As this is my 4th, I already have most things. I will buy a newborn outfit in pink and one in blue so that the baby can go into the "right" colour once it's here.

JethroTull · 25/03/2013 14:44

Just nipping in quick whilst at work to say scan was fine & miniJeff was wriggling around. Got a good photo too. I am very relieived & might even start to believe I am going to have an actual baby!! Grin

Will come back later to read everyone's news & catch up.

MotherOfNations · 25/03/2013 15:02

wickedgirl This is my fifth and I don't have a single thing. Luckily my sister and a couple of friends have all had babies in the last few months, all boys though, so if I have a girl I'm stuffed.

BowlFullofJelly · 25/03/2013 16:36

Crazy day at work today - told my boss as well! He wasn't in the least bit surprised and has apparently already been giving some thought to my cover! Apparently because I have had time off for appointments - thought I had covered it quite well but i rarely have time off for sickness or appointments, so I suppose even two might be a give away. Oh well - quite pleased it's out in the open though have asked him to tell only who needs to know at the moment. Want to at least have an idea of how my cover will work before I tell my team.

Have tried to catch up on all of the goings ons. Sal, hope you are feeling ok and am keeping my fingers crossed for you tomorrow. I automatically think the worst as then things can only be better - but it may all be ok! My mum didn't know she was pregnant with my youngest sister until she was 5 month as she was having periods - though you would think she would have an inkling on number 4 Hmm.

Roofio massive congratulations - what a lovely year you will have to look back on.

There have been so many scans I can't name check all - but big congrats to everyone who has good news - let's get some more scan pics going on please ladies!

Francescarose · 25/03/2013 17:25

Hi ladies

Can I join you? Had my 12 week scan this morning and am due 1 October! It's all starting to seem real now!!

Haylebop12 · 25/03/2013 17:43

france welcome to our bus! We're a chatty lot here and nothing is TMI :-) congrats on your scan!

MotherOfNations · 25/03/2013 17:53

Hi Francesca.
I constantly feel out of breath and a bit lightheaded and dizzy even when sitting down. Does anyone else feel like this?

Haylebop12 · 25/03/2013 18:04

MoN I get light headed a lot, not been too bad lately mind. When it happens I just sit down for a couple minutes and eat a biscuit it something haha!

SeriousStuff · 25/03/2013 18:27

Haylebop and Mother I've been getting terrible head rushes, to the point where I feel I'm about to black out and my knees buckle! I'm not too bad when I'm sitting down, unless I haven't had enough fluids.

Welcome Francesca and congratulations on your scan! It's all gone a bit scan crazy on here since last week.

pinksky my MIL would actually be carrying out the scan, that's what's weirding me out a bit...

TheFalconsmistress · 25/03/2013 18:44

I was getting breathless real bad haylebop and serious turns out i was ver badly anaemic which i am prone too anyhow but it can cause issues so you may need an iron prescription to bring your levels up im on 3 a day but do feel slightly better already.

pinksky · 25/03/2013 19:08

I can understand being a bit weirded out, serious! But another chance to see your bean .. Hmm. Have you ever had her do anything like that before?!!

Jethro yay for your scan, that's fantastic to hear all is ok.

Welcome to the October bus Francesca - if you want to you can add your info to the stats thread www.mumsnet.com/Talk/antenatal_clubs/1708888-October-2013-bus-STATS-THREAD

OrangeBlossom2 · 25/03/2013 19:12

Welcome Francesca and congratulations on the scans everyone who had lovely news today.

Sal still got fingers crossed for you for tomorrow. Thanks for letting us know how you are doing.

Re MIL doing scan, having scans isn't dangers for the baby so I don't think you can have too many. My friend who had very early preeclampsia had monthly scans from 12 weeks and enjoyed being able to keep a close eye on her baby growing. Not necessary but I would find it hard to say no to an extra peep.

My teaching assistant has guessed I think. She was giving me lots of unsolicited advice about bringing up children today! Hmm I can't wait to go public. I keep nearly letting it out as it is pretty much all I think about.

MotherOfNations · 25/03/2013 19:28

I hope I'm not aneamic because I have IBS and iron tablets make it worse. I cant have a shower now as the combination of standing and the heat make me feel like I'm going to faint. Cooking is a problem for the same reasons. The kids are sick of stirfry but it's the quickest thing.

MotherOfNations · 25/03/2013 19:30

Maybe I should point out that though I don't have showers I do have baths.
