Oh no, Lor! Ouch!! I've had had knee surgery, and there is just something SO painful about the knees not working properly Sad. Have you been able to put it up and ice it at all since last night? Are you able to take it easy today and just stay off of it?

I HOPE it gets better for you! You just never know with pregnancy....relaxin makes all of our joints loosey-goosey and they just don't feel the same until after the birth.

Squatting can be really hard on the knees (so it's a bummer that they are so good for pregnancy!). If they start feeling better in the future and you want to try squatting again, rolling up a towel and placing it between your thighs and calves can help to take the strain off of the knees.

Librarina · 21/02/2013 16:08

Oooh, sympathy to Lor for sore knees. I had to have truly hideous physio for a running injury in one of mine... I'm sure childbirth will be less painful than having my thigh muscle 'stripped'.

I had my 25 week MW appt earlier. Couldn't find a heartbeat initially but said she knew everything was fine as the baby was kicking her in the head. I told her she should try where the baby was kicking me, see how she liked it. Anyway, I'm measuring right for dates, BP is good and a 'nice, active baby' so all well there.

I would like a grobag for baby, apparently they have them in TK Maxx so I'm going to look there. The crib arrived this week, borrowed from a friend... it looks ENORMOUS, no way am I ever going to have a baby big enough to fit in there!

Morning all. It is freezing! Brrrr [blue frozen emoticon]
I hope your knee is feeling better today lorelei

FrustratedSycamoresRocks · 22/02/2013 11:18

Eek, just realised I have to give notice to work of when I'll be taking stat maternity pay + leave. And thoroughly confused myself over the 15wks notice thing. Although technically already given them dates verbally and my matb1 form they didnt ask for anything it in writing, so presumably I've already given them notice?

kittykatsforever · 22/02/2013 12:03

That's why I had to get a mw app for my mat1b frus because it said 15wks notice, I've totally panicked and just put 37wks but can finish before then with leave if I want, luckily this time it falls so I can take it at the end aswell as last time I had to use it all before I went off! I'm sure verbally is fine but maybe ask if they need it in writing aswell? Mine was in a form where you had to indicate when you intended to go and start sml etc

FrustratedSycamoresRocks · 22/02/2013 17:34

I don't have 15weeks. Eek.

FrustratedSycamoresRocks · 22/02/2013 17:36

They've had my matb1. I seem to have made the silly mistake of presuming that they would ask for what they needed.

Jojobump1986 · 22/02/2013 18:01

It probably happens all the time Frus. Why they genuinely need nearly 4 months to sort it out is beyond me! What are they going to do? Make you come in with the baby in tow? Wink

I feel dreadful. Have been sneezing for a few days & last night I felt a bit sick before going to bed. This morning I was still not feeling right but was ok after a nap & then suddenly, after feeling fine for a couple of hours, I had a bit of diarrhoea! Confused My nose is stuffy but not really blocked, more of a general swollen feeling & every time I try to blow it to relieve the feeling I get a tiny bit of snot which is more dried blood than anything else! I'm beginning to wonder if I should arrange to pop to the mw just to get my blood pressure checked. A bloody nose, even just a bit, is not normal for me! I'm just feeling v sorry for myself today! Sad

bringonthetrumpets · 22/02/2013 18:40

Sad Sorry, jo that doesn't sound fun at all.

I think we're all going through a rough patch right now. DH and I are both sick with colds and are snapping at each other all the time. Ugh.

Jojobump1986 · 22/02/2013 22:20

Well, that explains a lot.... Sudden explosive diarrhoea of the blood pressure dropping, nearly passing out variety! I had an evening like that when pregnant with DS1. No apparent reason & was fine the next day! It's weird, I've hardly eaten all day due to feeling dodgy & then that happens! Don't remember it burning quite like this last time though! It hurts so much! Sad Am already feeling a bit more like myself again though!

Librarina · 25/02/2013 10:08

Glad you're feeling better Jojo. I had a similar diarrhoea episode too a few days ago, I think it was a side effect of not having properly been for a few days, very uncomfortable at the time, but felt loads better when it was done.

Well, I've been waking up, wide awake, at 3am every night for the last 4 nights and I BORED of it now! The first couple of nights I got up and pottered around but last night I lay there and cried until DH woke up with a start thinking something was really wrong, well in my opinion there was! Lack of sleep isn't being helped by a chesty cough - does anyone know if Benelyn is ok to take in pregnancy, the label says ask your Dr or Pharmacist but I prefer to ask strangers on the internet Wink

OP posts:
peardrop2 · 25/02/2013 14:15

Lib - when I had a chesty cough at Xmas I was told by the doctor that I couldn't taken anything other then glycerin syrup which was useless (to me anyway). You can use Vicks vapour rub (small amounts) in a bowl with hot water just before bed. It did help my cough a lot and sleep!! Hot Ribena was also useful to keep up strength. Hope you feel better soon!

bringonthetrumpets · 25/02/2013 15:53

Agreed with Pear on the medications. Try to stick to natural methods of herbal teas, hot steamy showers, and chest rubs over taking anything. If nothing else is working, then maybe consider talking with a pharmacist about what would be okay to take in pregnancy.

Also, night waking is really common in pregnancy. Our babies are growing at full-speed ahead and they are in need of constant glucose from us. Sometimes having a protein snack next to your bed- nuts, peanut butter sandwich, granola bar, etc and having a few bites can help you get back to sleep. A lot of times we are waking up to due to low blood sugar, even though we're not actually feeling hungry. Plus we're on the other side of the hill and we're gearing up to be mums waking in the night with littles ones (which doesn't make not getting sleep now anymore fun....)

Anyone else feeling baby hiccups? This little lady seems to have them allllll the time.

kittykatsforever · 25/02/2013 16:15

I found lying more upright at night helped the cold lib!
Don't think this ones really suffering with hiccups yet bring but dd had them all the time, I have read links to that and colic- not sure if its true but my dd did suffer terribly with it?!?

bringonthetrumpets · 25/02/2013 18:55

Hmm, I'd have to see the studies on that correlation. Hiccups are just a sign that the baby's diaphragm is practicing the breathing movements. Both of my boys had the hiccups and never showed signs of colic.

peardrop2 · 25/02/2013 20:07

Bring - I've felt baby pear have hiccups a few times now. Also feeling him repeatedly kick me in the ribs these last few days...could do without that one! Typical boy Grin

FrustratedSycamoresRocks · 25/02/2013 20:25

That's interesting kitty my dd1 had hiccups all the time, and was very trapped-windy/colicy
Not sure if this one has hiccups yet, doesn't really seem to stop moving, he is one seriously active bumpy, I don't remember dd1 being this active. dd2 rarely moved

peardrop2 · 26/02/2013 03:24

So who else has reached the 3rd trimester? I feel like I've received a badge this week saying 'Welcome to sleepless nights...many more to come!' My sleeping pattern is a nightmare at the moment and is clearly starting to effect my work as it is making me oh so tired Hmm Roll on maternity leave!

How's everyone else doing? I loose track of where everyone is.

Librarina · 26/02/2013 07:55

Thanks for the advice, i also asked some chemist friends who said that benelyn was probably fine, its just not been tested as a whole product for use in pregnancy but I didn't find it that effective at soothing the cough anyway so wasn't worth it, sticking with Vicks in a hot bath and Virgin Toddys today. DH has made me promise if the cough doesn't get better ill go to the GP.

I tried the snack by the bed trick last night, something I haven't needed since the early weeks of pregnancy, and it worked! I had a yoghurt just as I went up to bed and a banana at 3am and slept through.

We also have a lot of hiccups, funny jerky wriggles in my bump, I find it endlessly fascinating, to the point that I want to grab who ever is standing near the Library counter and out their hand on my bump. I don't, that'd be weird.

BTW, when does Tri3 start then?

OP posts:
kittykatsforever · 26/02/2013 08:27

Is the third tri 27wks or 28? I'm 27tomorrow?!?
Bring its not having the hiccups occasionally its only if its very frequent, dd1 had them everyday! I'd definatly like to skip a colicy baby this time I can still remember one night taking 8 hrs to get her to sleep and just crying on the phone to dh at 3 in the morning as he was at work Sad
This baby is definatly a wriggler aswell, I'm the same lib, I'd have everyone with their hands in my tummy except they'd think me strange!

peardrop2 · 26/02/2013 08:38

Third trimester starts at 28 weeks.

Jojobump1986 · 26/02/2013 10:29

26 weeks today. It's taking forever! Just want him out so we can all get on with family life!

Am v Envy today. SIL's waters broke on Sunday & they've gone in to be induced this morning. She's 5 days overdue now so I suppose it's allowed, I just want it to be my turn already! Wink

bringonthetrumpets · 26/02/2013 14:22

Yeah, DS1 had them everyday as well... I'll have to do some study-searching and see what I can come up with! I really hope you don't have to experience another colicky baby too! Just think of all of the tricks you have up your sleeve now as an experienced mother though...

Awesome news that the snacks worked (and that you got to sleep), Lib! I'll have to start following my own advice again. I woke up several times last night Angry Frustrating.

Ugh. I'm only 25 weeks! You ladies are all ahead of me. Now that the 3rd tri is creeping up, I'm starting to feel this rush to get all this stuff done. Still painting to do around the house, have to start collecting my birth supplies and start getting ready for the birth, go baby-stuff shopping....It's exciting but stressful at the same time!

kittykatsforever · 27/02/2013 07:25

Feeling very sorry for myself today Sad had a shit nights sleep and was tossing half the night with sore hips, I've convinced myself this is going to develop into spd and ill be signed off work early or end up on crutches no basis for this at all bar insanity but think the fear of worst cases, someone snap me out of my self pitying mood!

FrustratedSycamoresRocks · 27/02/2013 08:20

Morning kitty sorry you've had a bad night. I'll share my wierd dreams with you to cheer you up, 1st one; may bath was in the kitchen, and I had a bath, and only on getting out of the bath did I realise I had my bra on. 2nd dream bumpy was kicking, and I could see toes and everything. Was very wierd.
