Hi all

Just catching up, sorry I'm not name checking everyone.

Where do I find this magical witch hazel? Is it like a bottle of it? Defo adding to my list.

Dysgu- it's so annoying when they get it wrong isn't it, and you stress even more due to being pregnant. I have to ave roudtwo of whooping cough jab in about three weeks, but drs are doing full investigation into how I was given a six week out of date drug. :(

So pleased mama and Alex are ok, and floss is keeping baby warm for hopefully a while longer.

Quote for decorator came through £300!!!!! Although it could have been £1k and I'd have still accepted. Still cheaper than divorce.

And I'm a bit gutted today, if booked cheap train tickets to London for member DH and DSS, however due to four inches of snow we couldn't risk the one hour drive to the station so have annoyingly got no food in, no day trip and can't ge out because of annoying deep white stuff. I will however get on fb later and out a pic on, my bumps got huge!!!! Mind you 31 weeks tomorrow. Eeeeeek.

Teapig · 26/01/2013 10:33

Crikey dysgu that sounds like a shambles. Take it easy this weekend.

I'm also going in search of the magical witch hazel today and other items for hospital bag including the bag itself.

ragbag sorry you've had to cancel your day trip, what a bummer.

Has my 28 week blood test on Thursday and the doctor's surgery called yesterday to say they are prescribing me iron tablets. Has anyone else had this? I thought my diet was pretty good but now beating myself up that I've been under nourishing baby. Gorging on spinach, appricots and sunflower seeds today.

Giddypants · 26/01/2013 11:40

Morning ladies. Had a bad headache since last night, paracetamol shifted it at 4am but its back when I got up.
Just taken some more paracetamol now hope it moves soon, I'm putting it down to tiredness or blocked sinuses, but there is a niggle that it could be pre-eclampsia have just taken my bp it was 138/88 which is high for me, but I had just walked upstairs.
I see my midwife on Thursday so do you think it should be ok until I see her?

alwayshopeful13 · 26/01/2013 12:21

giddypants I had a horrible headache pretty much non-stop for 2 weeks around week 17 I think it was....such a nightmare. In the end I rang NHS direct and they (ever cautious) suggested I see GP because I wasn't due to see mw for another few weeks. GP was also quite cautious I'm guessing because headaches can (I think) be an early sign of PE. But everything else, bp etc was fine so she just said take paracetemol and come back if it didn't improve. I was still sparing with the paracetemol but after a few days it did ease and eventually go - I think because I also started burning lavender oil in the evening in the bedroom, so started sleeping properly again. Sleep cures all! Maybe try the lavender - and see GP if you're worried before Thurs? Hope you feel better soon :-)

ratbag sorry about the trip to London. It is a really sunny day here too - suddenly not so cold and feels like the world is waking up (and thawing!). Hope the sunshine reaches you too before long.

Growth scan yesterday went fine. I was SUPER stressed because they were so thorough and just measured quietly and didn't say anything for ages (esp when measuring the brain)....trainee was being taught so everything had to be done twice. But when they said nothing during brain bit I got so anxious convincing myself something terrible was wrong. Turns out they just needed a measure of a tiny blood vessel which needs me and baby to be completely still (a rare occurrence!) and trainee was struggling to get it. But in the end they then just casually announced baby is absolutely fine, growing normally, nothing to worry about. Blood flow me from to placenta still a bit low but doesn't seem to have had any adverse effect, so far anyway. RELIEF!!!

Sorry for mememe post. Happy weekends all.

Giddypants · 26/01/2013 13:09

Thanks hopeful the paracetamol has taken the worse off, I've had a bath and rechecked bp and its gone back down to 122/75 so going to take it easy this afternoon, animal farm is on radio4 at 2:30 so looking forward to that, (little things) will go to GPs if it gets bad again.
Think just extra cautious as last time it went undiagnosed as no protein until the last minute, but bp sky high.

LikeCandy · 26/01/2013 15:09

Thanks aufaniae and bunnygirl I'm probably coming across as rather stupid, but its just naivety I hope promise!

ratbag if you have a 'Savers' pharmacy near you, I think they do bottles of witch hazel for £1, Boots etc should all stock it though.

giddy I've been suffering on/off with headaches, horrid isn't it?! Keep hydrated, and OFC call your midwife or GP sooner than your appointment if you want to, that's what they're there for! (Plus Radio 4 is a cure all!)

alwayshopeful glad your scan went ok, I bet you are relieved!

I joined Amazon family today on a free 3 month trial. Lots of discounts on baby stuff, plus £10 off £50 voucher, and free next day delivery on anything from Amazon. I put a reminder on my phone to cancel it in April, but if you don't its £49 for a year after the trial, plus you do get another voucher for £25 off £50. I think it'll come in handy.
Having a very lazy weekend, need to head out for a walk in a bit though as I have (shock horror) run out of tea bags, coffee and hot choc! Have been resorting to camomile and peppermint teas but its just not the same!!

30+3

usernamegoeshere · 26/01/2013 15:17

Likecandy I can hardly walk a mile now!

Feeling much better today, very tired but a bit less emotional. Bought some baby bits & found hypnobirthing book & cd secondhand for £4 so pretty happy with that.

Edin we should meet up at some point since will be so close! I'm feeling a bit better about the move now, especially since seeing there is pregnancy yoga near me, so I can hopefully do that when there to give a chance to meet people.

Giddy I hope your headache starts to improve.

I just added Witch Hazel to my list but reading Empress's post I might try grab some asap as I've been generally irritated & uncomfortable for a while now.

House to myself tonight, so thinking of a lil one born marathon.

29+1. Am torn between having forever to go and worrying that its going too fast.

tattooedapril87 · 26/01/2013 16:29

username I've just bought some witch hazel for general 'down there' problems.... and have put it on a liner as suggested and i feel much better.

thanks for the fab tip express

angeltattoo · 26/01/2013 17:00

Hi everyone,

I have just been to Mothercare and bought a car seat, crib, mattress and bedding etc. Whoopsie!! DH is away, I hope he won't mind that he wasn't there :-/

I also had to buy some breast pads, as I have leaked from my left boob the last two nights! Anyone else had this? Seems very early! I had a big 'i'm going to be a mum' moment when it happened the first time GrinGrin

wishfulthinking1 · 26/01/2013 17:16

Hi all-
Just had a lovely afternoon with a good friend and her 6 month daughter. She has lent us her Moses basket, given us a changing bag she doesn't need and loads of other bits and pieces. Can't believe baby is due in 10 weeks and 1 day!!

Curtains arrived for nursery yesterday- they look amazing! (If I may say so myself!)

What's everyone doing re: baby wipes vs cotton wool and water?
X

Trishstar · 26/01/2013 18:00

Wishful I'm using wipes x

tattooedapril87 · 26/01/2013 18:02

wishful i have bought sensitive wipes that say suitable for newborn bums. im going to be using these for my double nappy changing duties... cotton wool and water i think would be too much of nightmare x

alwayshopeful13 · 26/01/2013 18:20

Thanks likecandy yes very relieved!

wishful I'm being nosey so apols but can you share where you bought your lovely curtains? I need to get some for baby's room nod was going to default to John Lewis as I know they'll be good quality and fab customer service (I almost cried today at the v sweet and friendly JL guy who delivered our cot!...as others have said I'm definitely more prone to tears these days.).

But JL are pricey so if you'd recommend the place you used and they do online orders (sorry cant remember where you are), any info v gratefully received :-)

On wipes v c wool-reckon we'll be going for wipes too just for ease. I asked mw and she was v laid back ('babies are tougher than they look...no need to worry over such small things, wipes fine, there'll be lots more important things to think about so do whatever makes life easiest on nappy changing!)

wishfulthinking1 · 26/01/2013 18:33

Always - we ordered our curtains from this website- in 'malin sten' (about 16 rows down). they look lovely- fab quality and perfect for our unisex nursery!

www.curtainsmadesimple.co.uk/fabric/IKEA-Fabric/Fabric/Ikea-Collection-Fabric.aspx

I'm glad lots of you are going for wipes. On amazon you can get some called 'derma h20' (or something like that) which look to be just like water, but without the 'sneakiness' of cotton wool that makes my teeth itch!!
X

alwayshopeful13 · 26/01/2013 18:46

Fab wishful thanks for the link....will check that lot out! And that fabric too....also want something unisex, not just as we're having a surprise but we'll probably look to sell our fly a one point in the next couple of years so trying to keep any decor fairly neutral so childless prospective buyers see beyond he babyishness of the nursery!

Thanks for the wipes tip too :-)

birdbrain17 · 26/01/2013 19:44

Hi all, hope you're enjoying the long awaited weekend Smile and sorry for those who have had a bad time (sorry cant remember who's complained about what)
Thanks so much for the tip on witch hazel I'm going to go out tomorrow and get some to try now as I have been itchy for months and neither the gp or midwife were able to come up with anything that helps!!!
good to see a few replies re midwife unit vs labour ward. It's all in one hospital so if I needed medical intervention would be easy for them to transfer but I really don't want which is why I guess I thought of it in the first place, but I'm a bit scared to be sent home straight away I want to stay overnight so I know what to do with the baby, I'll have to find out my hospitals policy on that, maybe I can still transfer back to the maternity unit once the baby is born as it's all the same place. Random thought about midwife units though will I still be able to get the bounty packs there, the one's I got so far are really useful with vouchers and info....

not started hospital bag yet as still a while to go but you're getting me inspired, having said I still have a while some random friend of my mil said to me today when were at my in-laws house "I can see your due any day now" and then looked shocked when I said I still have 10 weeks. I nearly killed her, she doesn't even know my name who is she to comment!?!?!

tattooedapril87 · 26/01/2013 21:19

brdbrain that's what I've been using. so far i feel like its a miracle that im not squirming around trying to relieve itching.

Dysgu · 26/01/2013 21:38

I had a look in Boots today but could not find the witch hazel so thanks for the link birdbrain now I know what to look for. I don't have any itching but just feel generally uncomfortable down there and having to put in the pessary for the preemie risk is becoming a nuisance!

Baby slept all last night - which meant I didn't as it is usually awake through the night! It has been kicking rather forcefully this afternoon but seems to have settled again now. Yesterday it felt like it was trying to break out from all directions and didn't stop until about 8pm when it must have come down from its sugar rush! I wonder if it had a headache today too...

And the added bonus of going into work yesterday - I brought nits home! I have a child in my class who is always crawling in lice (huge other thread) and my TA did warn me that she had managed to catch them and then I found a crawly little thing this morning! Luckily they appear to have gone no further - but not a fun hour of checking everyone's heads and changing all the bedding! Am now treated and bug free (and going to have to tie my hair up for my last 20 work days).

ratbagcatbag · 26/01/2013 21:43

Hi birdbrain, just watch with bounty as they are there just to sell your babies details on, I really don't like them after what I've read and won't be filling anything in for them. Personal choice but thought I'd mention it.

jojo2509 · 26/01/2013 22:32

Hi. So many organised people on here! I haven't started doing anything yet. Feeling completely exhausted though and have developed hideous discomfort/ pain in my bum/hips that makes sitting and lying down really uncomfortable. Anyone else experienced this?

Hi user, yes that sounds good. Let me know when you've made the move.

Just finished watching One Born, getting excited now :)

I'm also veering well clear of all things bounty. Some horrible stories on MN about their tactics so

jojo sorry to hear you're in such pain. I've had back twinges-nothing so bad as yours but I'm loving my pregnancy yoga class for stretching things out gently. You're probably too achey for it but maybe worth considering something like that.

Sorry phone posted before I was finished...(Re bounty) '..so not keen to give them any details at all.'
