New thread as the other one is nearly full Xmas Shock!

Our next baby should be pmgkt's, but I won't if any little cheeky monkey will sneak in before Thursday?

OP posts:

hi Octane

Did you have to beg or were they reasonable?? I've never actually discussed the possibility of a caesearean with midwife or GP.. i think it's been playing on my mind more after the failed sweep last Monday.

I'm seeing a MW on Monday - i never see the same person twice but will definitely raise the question then....

i want to be fully informed but @ the moment, i can't help thinking that it could save a whole heap of potential unnecessary stress...

LetThereBeCupcakes · 18/01/2013 15:53

Hi everybody, sorry I've not been keeping up - the thread moves so fast I get confused! Congratulations to everybody who's had their baby, and fingers crossed the rest of us won't be kept waiting too long!

Having said that I don't want to have baby yet. Too much snow. I HATE snow.

CreepyCrawly · 18/01/2013 17:38

Evening all! Well, it was definitely the start of something! Nancy was born via emergency section at 5:54 this morning. She's 7lb8oz with a ridiculous amount of hair. I can't stop looking at her, even though all she's done is sleep with a little bit of feeding thrown in.

Good luck to everyone still waiting!

octanegirl · 18/01/2013 18:21

Well done Creepy! Keep us posted on section recovery..

Godzookey no I didnt have to beg. I was very stressed though and slightly teary (though not actually crying) and they took my concerns seriously. Midwife went up to maternity ward and was back five mins later saying I was booked in.

BuntyCollocks · 18/01/2013 21:18

Congratulations, creepy! take it easy with your recovery, but do try and get up and moving - it feels like shit but is definitely the best way toward healing and feeling 'normal' :)

Berniebennett · 18/01/2013 21:25

Poping back in, congrats on new arrivals!

Creepy, I had a c - section last Tuesday and just to reiterate what people have already said about getting up and about! I had the LO at 10:30am and stayed in hospital that evening and then was allowed to go home the next day as they were happy. I completely rested the first day and night then got up and about! But take it easy and enjoy!

salt1 · 18/01/2013 23:00

I have been keep in hospital and being induced in the morning. I really did not want labour to start this way, but need to stop feeling sorry for self.

Lora1982 · 18/01/2013 23:46

Salt... Least you know your babys definatly ccoming. I dont know what inductions are like but take all pain relief offered and dont forget to be excited more than pissed off :-D

salt1 · 19/01/2013 01:10

Thanks lora think it all the internal stuff that bothers me the most, though i guess that would happen anyway

SpringFlowers · 19/01/2013 01:49

I hope it is ok in the end Salt, sometimes induction is unavoidable. I think that for many women it is a really effective way of getting labour going without the need for further intervention. The internal examinations are ok in my experience, nothing like as uncomfortable as a smear and very quick. The midwives who are with you will be very sensitive to how you feel.

salt1 · 19/01/2013 06:09

Thanks spring i am quite frightened but trying to stay calm x

woody2313 · 19/01/2013 07:57

Just realised Disco is on this list twice; will re-publish the list after our next baby Grin

SilverSixpence · 19/01/2013 10:35

Good luck salt1

I'm quite fed up now, not sleeping much at night and feel tired during the day. Had a nice snowy walk with DH and DS yesterday and was hoping it would trigger something but no such luck!

godzookey · 19/01/2013 11:46

Best of luck Salt - I have a feeling i'm going to have to be induced - will be booked in for one @ Monday's MW appt - god they are getting tedious now.

Am keeping everything crossed for you and hope all goes well - i am not a fan of internal exams either Thanks

Lostbobbles · 19/01/2013 12:04

Good luck Salt x

salt1 · 19/01/2013 13:04

last minute reprieve - medication working so looking like i can go home and wait for things to start naturally. thank you for all the good wishes am sure they helped x

bealos · 19/01/2013 18:38

great stuff salt glad things are looking up!

And don't forget, if you do end up being induced, there's lots of positive stories out there. And if you really don't want internal examinations, you do not want to have them (I've written this into my birth preferences and the midwives are fine with this).

bealos · 19/01/2013 18:39

typo alert

"You do not have to have internals if you don't want them"

I should have said.

Honestly, I am typo-tastic in the last few final months of pregnancy.

salt1 · 19/01/2013 20:20

that is very intersting bealos about the internals, how would that work if they wanted to know how many cm's dilated (sorry if that is a ridiculous question)

overall my stay in hospital was not a bad one, my only complaint is they seem to have not given me as much medication as they should have done, so need to sort that tomorrow, not sure how yet, too tired to think x

bealos · 19/01/2013 20:36

If they (or indeed, you) wanted to know how many cms dilated you are, then you would have to have an internal.

However, there's many a school of thought that it doesn't really tell you how much longer labour your will last for. You can dilate super fast or much, much slower. Every woman is different. The '1cm dilation per hour' rule that most hospitals seem to use is based on a non-existent person - it's a text book analysis. You hear of people going from 4cm to 10cm in just an hour, or indeed bursts of dilation and bits of labour that slow down. There is no 'normal' progression, really (in my opinion and many midwives) and getting fixed on this can be quite depressing.

This might be time to mention the work of the amazing US midwife, Ina May Gaskin (who has birthed 1000s of women, with only a 2% c-section rate), who writes about 'sphincter law'. Basically she believes that the cervix (like the anus) is able to contract as well as dilate, so in fact, all that poking around in the cervix could cause it to reverse in dilation. It makes sense to me...

salt1 · 19/01/2013 20:51

that is really interesting again bealos, i will have more of a read x

godzookey · 19/01/2013 21:33

bealos - you are my new pregnancy guru - i swear i have learnt more from you than all the mw appts , nct classes and doula sessions put together.

I am going to try and 'demand' an elective caesarean when i see the mw on monday although i'm not convinced what influence she'll have as a) i never see the same person and b) the mw appt place is some weird little room off a kiddies play centre - doesn't even seem like it's even connected to my local hospital - all quite a bizarre set up.

Anyhow, i definitely don't want internal exams if not necessary!!!

SpringFlowers · 19/01/2013 22:26

To add to the comments about speed of dilation I went from 7cm to delivery in less than 11 minutes. No need to hang around Smile
