Congratulations smallgreenone! 7 pound 6 is not tiny at all! Rest well and take care!!

MissCoffeeNWine · 27/08/2012 23:25

Awww congrats smallgreenone lovely news!

I'm not doing any batch cooking or freezing so you're all making me feel disorganised (mind you I still haven't done any packing or made my birth room a birth room or bought much for the baby yet so I suppose I deserve that title!) Honestly when DD was born I was bored a lot and cooked more than I normally do. I made bread everyday when she was newborn she liked the movement and I found it lots easier to have something to do all day at home. I always had both hands, she'd just go in the sling and I'd cook and eat or do whatever. I did lots of reading too, and went out all over the place. I'm hoping to do the same this time.

Actually I've been looking into some things to do and places to go in advance this week. Like looking at local events and baby groups and so on, so I can get life post-baby on track without any sitting about feeling isolated. And so we can go out and have some fun when OH is on paternity leave. Obviously it depends when the baby's born but there looks to be some good events around next month, I have my eye on an art festival and there are some good films out for us to go and see as well. There are a couple of more outdoor events at the farm and den building that might be beyond me if I've only just had the baby but I can manage a walk round the woods and watch DH and DD. I used to do the baby group circuit with DD but I'm not sure I actually enjoyed it, but I have found a BF group and a baby music time type thing locally which I'll try and get to while DH is on paternity leave so I can get it all sorted in my head where I'm going and if I like it! I don't think the baby would get much from playgroup if I remember that was lots of three year olds standing on rolling babies and people generally only took their babies because they needed to entertain the toddler but I don't need to worry about that. I suppose I'm just trying to get back into the baby world because I've got an older child (6) and most of my parent friends have children either that age and older - ie the 6 year old is their youngest - or had their second a couple of years after so noone really has anyone younger than 3-4.

Late ramble from me! Is anyone else looking at the structure of life after the birth? Or should I stop looking at cinema times and start packing a hospital bag Grin

Rachel130690 · 27/08/2012 23:40

misscoffee I'd get the hospital bag packed but it's a good idea to have things like that planned :) I'm just going with the flow, not sure what's available in my area. But I'll maybe get googling tomorrow to see if I can find anything fun to do after.

Think having my sister give birth before me has opened my eyes up to what life after birth will be like.. It's making me a bit more prepared. Thank god.

Congrats smallgreen on the birth of your son, not sure if you've said but have you any names? 7lb 6 oz is a good weight.. Bet your glad he's here and all. I'm sick of waiting :( but still very nervous..

MissCoffeeNWine · 28/08/2012 00:12

Thanks Rachel. I think it's because I go so wrapped up in the birth bit last time that what happened after all felt like a bit of a shock and like an anti climax almost. It's not all about labour and birth, yes that's an important bit but after the baby pops out your fanjo you do still have to get up and get on with life after, I forgot that last time Grin It was a bit of a surprise really that everything in the world was the same but everything had changed - like I still had to change the bedsheets and get ready for bed and brush my teeth and put my stuff in the washing basket even though I had a hours old baby in my arms, I don't know what I expected to happen! I even set my alarm clock for the next morning when DD was born. And got up!

If I don't have some structure for the days after I think I might go equally mad Grin

Loup23 · 28/08/2012 09:17

I agree misscoffee I'd like a week or two with no or little plans but then some things to get me up and about - it feels like I should be working during maternity leave so want to keep busy to avoid that feeling! Am looking forward to being able to cook etc once baby is here but maybe I'm deluded...... Confused life is also busy with 3 step children so I'm sure we'll be occupied!

Baby due in 4 days now, feels so surreal....!

Turquoisecat · 28/08/2012 09:26

Hi all - congratulations smallgreenone, really lovely news!

Just feeling sorry for myself here. Under my bump is so achy and sore. Trying not to take it out on dh, but just feeling a bit sensitive about everything. Has anyone used a bump band? And are they any use?

Bakeroo · 28/08/2012 10:26

Smallgreenone so many congratulations to you! Your post bought a tear to my eye. I am so happy that he arrived safely and that he is a perfect weight. That's really lovely news.
I am beginning the long wait now. Last week I wasn't really ready for baby to come as it was my first week off of work but this week I've arranged less and am ready for it's arrival! I swing between being excited and nervous but really can't wait. I had reflexology yesterday for the 2nd time and again had so many Braxton hicks all last evening along with cervix pain and slight backache. I was convinced something was starting but it's all stopped this morning. Oh well...I'll just have to be patient, baby will come when it's ready. I am 40 wks on Saturday.

cjbk1 · 28/08/2012 14:42

hello! can I ask 2 questions connected with our babies; (i) how to clean non-removable straps on baby equipment? ie on a baby rocker
(ii)think I'm sending more than I need to on tesco shop, how do I search for tesco things first? ie I cldnt find a big back those square kitchen sponges with a white rough side so I had to get a pack of 2 spontex 'non scratch wash ups'
obviously I need all spare cash for bub3
thanks in advance

cjbk1 · 28/08/2012 14:43

Wow Plums that's fantastic news. Congrats and welcome to Esme. Hope you and your daughter get home soon. Smile
Re cleaning straps, if they are white and u can balance object they are attached to, then soaking in water with Milton added gets almost any stain out. If you can't soak then a bar of vanish or fairy stain remover rubbed on then scrubbed with old tooth brush.
No idea about online shopping though: once tried it and after about 30 mins and a lot of stress decided I'm the sort of person that need my options concretely laid out in front of me.

MakeTeaNotWar · 28/08/2012 15:38

Congrats plums amazing news! Beautiful name too

Pickles77 · 28/08/2012 16:21

Cooo-ee, may I come back in I've been MIA for quite a while, I lost you all.
But as I am suffering with a UTI & have been permitted by the doc to spend my day MNing I have come to find you all after being prompted by leti.
Hope your all okay and don't mind me gatecrashing the party? Especially with tales of my bladder & fox poo covered terrier? Grin

leelteloo · 28/08/2012 16:25

Welcome back Grin

twizzlestix · 28/08/2012 17:18

Glad you're back pickles I read your other thread, hope you're feeling better.

Congratulations plumsie! Hope your recovery is going well. Esmè is a beautiful name. It's in our top 3 baby names Grin

Pickles77 · 28/08/2012 17:27

Why thank you. I was feeling better, until my pooch arrived home after taking my father for a walk. He reeks, fell in a bog apparently

What a lovely name esme is! Congratulations Smile

WinterMymble · 28/08/2012 17:32

Congratulations plums and smallgreen! Brilliant news.

Like you, misscoffee, i am lookinginto places to go etc now, and i love the idea of trying some of these out with DH while he is on paternity leave... Could help me get a structure of sorts in place before i have to start doing it all on my own :)

pgreen · 28/08/2012 18:08

Babies all arriving so exciting. My yoga friend had hers at the weekend a little boy via emergency CS. No one yet from my NCT group so I may still be the first as have ELCS on Monday (holy crap, can't believe it - yikes - yikes - yikes). Bag triple checked at the weekend, nursery all ready. Good thing its soon though as I only fit into one pair or tracksuit bottoms now!!! Have to sit around in my pants whilst they wash & dry (and pray no one knocks the door!)

He's very jiggy today and kicking/pushing into my ribs. Can't wait to meet him.
Unlike so many of you organised people I am not bothering with cooking up and freezing, going to put DH in charge and leave it up to him....

On another note had to have an argument with my Mum that I didn't want any visitors on Monday - just the three of us please at the hospital.... You swear I'd have said she could never never see him him....

Good luck to everyone as the countdown continues. x

Loup23 · 28/08/2012 19:42

Good luck pgreen I envisage the same argument with my mum, I swear she wants to be at the birth she's so excited! First grandchild and all but still..,,.,, I hope all goes well on Monday, keep us posted!

Congrats plumsie love the name Grin

Re the tesco shopping, I think I typed in 'tesco value' or 'everyday' in the search box and it then lists all the value goods so you can select the cheaply bargain bits! LOVE online grocery shopping Wink

Rachel130690 · 28/08/2012 20:17

Congrats plumsie on your baby girl and what a gorgeous name :) hope you and her are doing well.

Was 39 weeks yesterday (countdown is on for me) cant believe I'll be 40 weeks next Monday.. Seriously I can't get my head around it, I go from thinking where did the time go, to it's been so long just get out am impatiently waiting on him now..

Had Mw appointment today, everything is looking good, though she did say head is above my pelvic bone, do baby's usually engage and come out again? Also asked if I felt any lightening (can't say to be sure) but when she measured me I was only coming up at 32 cm compared to 35 last week, although she has wrote 36 cm in my notes. seems a bit wierd

Have realised that I'll still prob be waiting next week :( am just so excited about him coming. Have appointment next Friday 7th ill be 4 days over if I go and I no ill be so depressed if I'm at that appointment.

I know the raspberry leaf tea theory and hot curry, but is there any other old wives tales that I can try? :)

twizzlestix · 28/08/2012 20:30

If my little one hasn't put in an appearance by Sunday (I'll be 40+1) I'm going to book a session of reflexology. It's meant to trigger uterine contractions if certain areas are massaged...must be something in it coz beauty therapists are very wary of foot massage in pregnancy, ime.

My granny swears by scrubbing floors on hands and knees Hmm
If you can face it, my NCT leader reccommended a good old knee trembler Grin
