Someone help!!

my baby is breech and refuses to budge, i got told that they would preform a c section this week, then told i needed to meet someone to arrange a date, then told that they wernt gona do 1 till atleast 39 weeks and that i wouldnt be given a date just called a few days before to "warn" me :/ (surley this isnt right?) then i got told to meet someone again this wednesday and i dont even know why now :/ i just feel so messed around and to top it all off little sod is kicking down so hard she has actually bruised my muscle down there! my back is killing sometimes i cant even move because she kicks nerves etc so hard. i just want her out and feel extremly frustrated, i just dont know what to do with myself at all. i feel so usless, n i know its silly but i keep thinking i cud have done something to stop her being breech or something. im so worried and i just dont know what to do at all, and although i want her out soon and have no option other than C-section in the same respect im worried about that too my partner works 50 hour weeks and isnt entitled to paternity leave and i have no family here to help support me after the op. :/ how am i gona look after my daughter when i wont even be able to look after myself properly? urgh im so stressed... please help completely at a dead end. PS. im due on the 15th Dec.. has anyone been told how dialated or etc you are at this point? cos no one has said anything to me at all i feel so in the dark. and i was offered an ECV but my success rate was only 20-30% because this is my first child and my muscles wont be ready or something, not to mention the risks of baby getting cord round neck or becoming distressed during procedure resulting in emergency c section. or the procedure just not working leaving me in pain and still having to have a c-section so i opted not to do this, have i done the wrong thing? should i have gone ahead with the ECV to atleast give her a chance?

sorry for the essay lol xx thanks

CheeseandGherkins · 22/11/2010 15:26

Ouch, some of the movemnts baby is making feel like I'm being stabbed inside, not a nice feeling at all. Assuming it's her trying to either turn or move into pelvis but it hurts! Lots of BHs still but nothing else, am 36 weeks on Thursday.

japh Last night was the first night in ages that I felt like I'd actually slept. Really not sleeping well most nights though so you have my sympathies.

MrsS Niggles get so annoying after a while. I love baths, I've been using a lot of the stuff from Lush lately and I just love it.

kelle the midwife you saw sounds really good. Hope baby moves into a better position for you before labour starts.

WLL Rennie, lots of :o I crave ice all the time so I eat that too and it tends to help as it's cold, or drink some water.

Cheryl Hope ds2 and dp are better soon. I can't believe how close we all are now to having our babies! I'm really excited but also nervous still. It all seems to happening so quickly.

franken good to hear from you again :) I also take floradix and not the tablets, I will continue to do so as well. Are you sure baby is ROA as that is, apparently, the best position for the start of labour, that and LOA. Meaning Right Occiput Anterior. ROP is one that is close to OP, Right Occiput Posterior.

CheeseandGherkins · 22/11/2010 15:31

wish how many weeks are you? I think a section for a breech baby would be around 39 weeks usually. An ECV is a personal choice but I wouldn't have one myself. Baby still might turn but it does get more unlikely the further on you are. Try not to panic, either baby will turn or not and you could try positions to help turn baby too here

laurenamium · 22/11/2010 15:45

Thinking of you DF hope everythings ok with your DH.

Hi notso Grin

Went to mw today on a cancellation slot and Im glad you guys told me too! was back to my normal midwife and she was furious the stand in had said that I didnt need my 38 week appointment...had everything checked which was all nice and reassuring...booked in for a sweep a week tommorow Shock it will be the day before my DD so thought they would have waited until at least a week over to suggest that kind of thing!

laurenamium · 22/11/2010 15:46

to not too! sorry!

wishx · 22/11/2010 15:53

thanks ill try them :) and im 37 on wednesday, i know its only 2 weeks away but it feels like so long and im worried i may go into labour before then and end up with an emergency c section :/ surley it cant be right that they dont give me a date and just call me to "warn" me a few days before tho? has anyone ever heard this before? and has anyone been told how dialated etc they are? ive read people saying on other sites but im not sure if its different countries etc.. also i may sound silly but what is a sweep? sorry i thaught i was prepared but i dont know anything n everytime i ask people just shrug me off and i havnt even had a constant MW to ask, only had same MW twice throuhout all of pregnancy! honestly ive seen 7 different ones!

laurenamium · 22/11/2010 15:56

wish il wait with you for someone a bit more experienced to fill us in on the gory details of a sweep Grin Im under the impression its when the mw uses their fingers to soften the cervix? and it can be uncomfortable too...am i anywhere close?I should probably know this Confused

wishx · 22/11/2010 15:59

lol laurenamium :) .. i have no idea at all lol i just know its something they do like internally up there lol :/

CheeseandGherkins · 22/11/2010 16:00

lauren glad you saw the midwife and that it was reassuring. Not long for your sweep then!

wish I think you should have been given an appointment already, can you get in touch with consultant/hospital to arrange an appointment? If you go into labour in the mean time then you would have an emergency c-section but it shouldn't be a "proper" emergency unless your labour progressed really quickly. A sweep is where they put 2 fingers inside your cervix (if it is open enough and favourable to do it) and loosen the bag of waters by moving their fingers in a circular motion, this stimulates production of hormones which can bring on labour. It isn't normal to check for dilation for sometimes you can ask and they will oblige.

laurenamium · 22/11/2010 16:04

thanks c&g Grin i was nearly there with the sweep details haha

wishx · 22/11/2010 16:05

thanks :) well atleast i dont have to worry that im missing something really important not knowing how dialated i am lol :) ok thats good too (about the c-section thing) ah ok i was just curious about that but atleat i know now :) .. i feel so much better already lol! i have an appointment on Wednesday, but i have no idea what it is for as they keep changing their mind about everything, ive just been told to go to antenatal dept at 9.30 to "disscuss things" :/ maybe they will help clarify about c section then. thank you sooo much! x

laurenamium · 22/11/2010 16:08

write a list of all your questions wish and refuse to leave until they have answered them all Grin

wishx · 22/11/2010 16:18

lol i think i might have more than a list lol.. but yeah i think i actually might, surley i shud have alot more info than i do from them :/ im quite tempted to say somthing about the lack of support throughout my pregnancy, no actual MW, wasnt offerd till last week antenatal classes (because i asked) then told they were full sorry, results not written properly in my notes and other people complaining when they see them, people knowing i had high gluecose levels since 26 weeks and not being offered a diabetes test until last week (i didnt know no one told me until a new MW moaned about it), and for like the first 6 months of my preg i was given back the same urine pot just rinsed instead of a new 1 :/ surley thats wrong too... i think thats why im so worried about actual labour because everything else has been so rushed and halfed that i have no trust this will go right either.

maxpower · 22/11/2010 16:39

lauren a sweep is uncomfortable but worth a try in my opinion! Make sure you take a pad with you for afterwards - I did and was glad I has as the mw forgot to get one ready. You can have more than one by the way so if you have one next week and nothing happens, you can ask for another one.

wishx sorry you're so stressed. lauren 's right, write down all your questions and make sure they answer them all. If you don't get any joy, call the hospital and ask for the contact details for the head of midwifery/consultant midwife who should be prepared to help you. (It's not unusual for you to be given the same sample pot btw)

japhrimel · 22/11/2010 16:55

lauren - I'm hoping to be offered an early sweep, but then I need to go into labour early if I'm going to avoid induction!

It's our 2nd-to-last NCT class tonight and then we're having a scan and seeing the antenatal clinic again tomorrow. Am hoping baba will kick things off next week as I just wanted to 1, get past 37 weeks and 2, finish the NCT course, before she arrives!

wishx - definitely write a list of questions and go through them.

It sounds like you might've missed a lot of normal checks through not being assigned to a CMW - has anyone said why this has happened? Or is it just that you see a team rather than 1 named CMW (when you still see a team if they're away or off-sick).

Re antenatal classes, in my area the procedure is that they are mentioned at the booking in appointment (but not discussed or detailed in any way) and you get a number to call to enquire, that's it. We're doing NCT classes, but that's all private and personally organised, not NHS at all. The NHS classes haven't been mentioned to me since 9 weeks.

FWIW, reusing a pee pot is totally normal.

Your hospital may be unwilling to give you a date for an ELCS ahead of time if they know they're often busy and so would likely have to re-arrange you anyway. I know in my area that even when you get a date for ELCS or induction, you still have to call before coming in to check they haven't had a rush and so postponed you.

They wouldn't normally check for dilation before you go into labour unless you have issues, or go overdue, or are offered a sweep.

crazykat · 22/11/2010 17:56

I'm getting so impatient now, I can't wait till baby's here. It doesn't help that I now wake more in the night due to my left hip hurting than I do to pee. I can't wait till I can sleep on my front again.

I think baby keeps pushing on the nerves going into my legs as several times a day one or other of my legs goes numb and I've nearly fallen a few times but managed to grab something before I do. I've started getting shooting pains down the inside of my thighs too, not fun when I'm half way down the stairs.

maxpower · 22/11/2010 19:49

I've had my debit card declined all day - just rang the bank who told me my card number is amongst a batch the some fraudsters have cloned Shock Angry So, that means I can't use my card until the new one arrives which apparantly takes 5-6 days! Not entirely sure how I'm supposed to get to work as I only have 80p on my oyster card. Also Angry that the bank didn't bother to contact me, rather they waited until I called them.

Just got a letter about DD starting school in Jan - really hope LO puts in an appearance before then!

laurenamium · 22/11/2010 20:01

Thanks for your sweep advice everyone...especially the tip about the pad max i would never have thought about that

Shock about your card max thats awful, and I cant believe they never got in touch with you! Im Angry on your behalf!

OnlyWantsOne · 22/11/2010 20:02

hello all just marking my place, shall read more later :) 38 + 5 here xx

MrsSnaplegs · 22/11/2010 20:07

owo glad to see you back - have been wondering how you were!! Still holding on I see! How are you getting on?

KittyBump · 22/11/2010 20:17

maxpower how crap, I hope you've got someone who can lend you some money! I know it's not much but at least the bank found out before your money was taken, I've had that and it takes ages to get it back.

crazycat :( about the sore hip and numb legs that must be pretty scary, hopefully means your LO is quite far down and nearly ready to make an appearance!

Hello again ff you're DH sounds great! Maybe I should get mine to read this.... or maybe not :)

lauren glad you got your good midwife back, ooh just a week till the sweep, I can't believe that we'll all soon be having our LOs :)

hi wishx nothing to add to the good advice you've had - hope you get on ok and can get some reassurance so you are more confident in the care you will get.

Hi c&g sorry your LO is so uncomfortably wriggly, it must be awful for it to cause you pain, especially as even if the movements slow down you then worry about that too - can't win!

japh hope the penultimate class was good, hopefully your LO will hang on just that bit longer :)

I had some lovely news today, one of the women I do yoga with knew her baby would need a heart op as soon as it was born so she had to give birth at B'ham Children's hospital. She had him on Sunday and they monitored him in SCBU and his heart had sorted itself out! The experts were all baffled and kept him for 3 days to be sure but they have now given him the all clear and they've all gone home Grin it's sad she had all that stress and worry whilst pregnant but such amazing news that he's all ok :)

Got quite a bit done today, hired my TENS machine got some nursing bras and pjs all for the hospital bag. I was a bit optomistic on the size of the pjs though so may need to go shopping again and battle my way through all the Christmas craziness :)

Miffster · 22/11/2010 20:47

Hello everyone, this thread is getting well busy! And not everyone is on mat leave yet!

Met some local mumsnetters at the weekend and went to a park, which was nice. Doula came over and we did a brilliant birth run through, then DH and I practised filling the pool. Feeling very excited and hopeful but am happy to hang on til December as have stuff planned for this week - a first aid course, lunches with friends, a real nappy/babyclothes swap. Also want to have at least a week flumping, doing yoga, sleeping, and lying under the Christmas tree as I feel mat leave has been quite busy so far!

Button the shower sounds lovely! and so does the room.
DF hope you get to work through all the worries - not a good time to have inlaw worries really - and fingers crossed LO arrives at a good time and your perfectly reasonable need for privacy and peace are respected!
max boo about the cold sore. Glad nesting is going well.
kelle know what you mean about mad bouncing bump and being grumpy and I don't have to deal with an aggravating MiL!...and WLL is having it too... What is it with the MiLs at the moment?
93pjb hope you are enjoying mat leave and not doing TOO much! Gardening in this cold raw weather sounds quite hardcore!
Lavita lovely to hear from you and nice to hear that you want to show off the babes! You sound really serene, hooray, want to be like you when Tiny arrives. :)
lauren poor you with the nightmare
C&G enjoy the nesting!
Japh poor you hope you can get some rest. My baby is getting very active at night and I keep having to get up to wee but I don't have the BP and itching to manage too, dunno how you manage.
C&G you sound very ready! I reckon you'll be next :)
Frankenfanny nice to see you back on the thread!
wishx sorrry you are having so much stress. I think you should make an appointment with a midwife specifically to go through all your questions, as soon as you can. Or failing that, a GP. The baby may still turn. have a look at www.spinningbabies.com.
Laura can't believe they are sweeping before the DD! Is that normal?
crazy sorry you are so uncomfortable.

Phew epic post! apologies to people I have missed but it was turning into a novel!

maxpower · 22/11/2010 20:51

thanks all - thankfully my manager gave me £5 today towards a maternity leave present I bought for someone at work last week, so I can use that to get there at least Wink I wasn't too impressed with the treat of snow later this week - I slipped over really heavily when we had the snow earlier this year and for obvious reasons don't want to risk that again now. Also, my trains barely need an excuse not to run and when we had the snow in Jan, the line shut down completely!

welcome back owo

lovely news about your friend kitty

I was really uncomfortable sitting at my desk this afternoon, had to keep getting up and having a pointless wander around.

maxpower · 22/11/2010 20:54

treat should be threat of course Blush

miffster btw I'm intending on having a sweep before my DD and my mw is happy with that
