Misdee delivered at 7:25pm, 5 minutes before I got there, after a 4 hour labour. She was 3cm dilated when she arrived at the hospital so they broke her waters at 3:30pm. I phoned at 6:40pm and was told to come in, but I couldn't work out the call button thing on the door so waited around for about 5 minutes, and missed it all, but she is beautiful, lots of black hair, weighs in at 7lb 13 and 1/2oz. Misdee is looking great and didn't need any stitches!!
Her name is Sherena Dixie (not sure if I have spelt her first name right) and she is soooooo pretty!!

Perhaps she will have the record for the quickest mumsnet hospital birth turnaround

Posting before going in and then posting as soon as gets home

sparklymieow · 22/02/2005 14:25

Congratulations Missdee & family & welcome to the world Serena Dixie {smile]

sparklymieow · 22/02/2005 16:04

Misdee isn't coming home today something to do with her or the baby's glocose (sp??) levels. Just spoken to her DH and he was a bit vague.

RTKangaMummy · 22/02/2005 16:06

hope she is ok

sparklymieow · 22/02/2005 16:09

thinks its probably Misdee's levels as she has had GD and had to test her levels every day.
Our parents have gone to see her and the baby and taken Misdee's DD1 too see her too

Congratulations Misdee - fantabuloso!

soapbox · 22/02/2005 16:14

Sparklymeiow - when the mum has GD the baby is used to generating a lot of insulin to cope while in the womb. When the baby is born it can't adjust the insulin levels fast enough and their blood sugar drops too low. It can take a little while to even out.

They will keep the baby in to monitor her until blood sugar returns to normal. Baby will have blood taken every 2-4 hours until blood sugar is normal.

Hopefully she'll be out tomorrow

sparklymieow · 22/02/2005 16:19

DS had the same thing when he was born, his blood sugar levels were too low, but I didn't have GD. At least I understand what the have to do to sort it though.

sparklymieow · 22/02/2005 18:34

Have spoken to mum and she said that the baby has a blood sugar level of 1.3 so she is being taken to SCBU to be kept an eye on.

When DS was in NNU and later in SCBU they had several babies come in with glucose levels etc.

THey all looked so huge next to the prem babies.

In the incubabtor or cots.

Poor Misdee and serena

Hopefully home tomorrow

sparklymieow · 22/02/2005 18:55

Ds was taken to SCBU when he was born with low glucose levels, he was 5lb 2oz and he looked huge, when DD1 and DD2 were in SCBU (3lb 12 and 3lb 8) they looked tiny compared to the babies with Glucose problems

Hope everything is ok - tell misdee i am thinking of her and Serena

marthamoo · 22/02/2005 21:09

Oh thanks for the photo, mieow. She really is beautiful (now you know I'd say that regardless but she really, really is - ds2 had masses of very dark hair just like that, feel a bit broody now...)

Ds1 had very low blood sugar and they were a bit concerned but he perked up quickly once they realised that was what the problem was - hope misdee and Serena (is it definitely Serena?) are home soon. Are you going to print this thread off - 222 posts!
