Has anybody been told they are having a boy all the way through and ended up having a girl?

It happened the other way round to an acquaintance of mine

CRbear · 28/07/2023 15:34

I’ve only known it happen to one person the other way round

SidekickSylvia · 28/07/2023 15:38

I've also known it the other way round. I think a boy's genitals can be missed/not seen, but you can't see what isn't there, so it'd be more unlikely.

JenniferBarkley · 28/07/2023 15:40

It did happen to someone I know, but usually they're right.

Marilla1966 · 28/07/2023 15:41

My aunt was having her third girl and out came a son x

MichelleScarn · 28/07/2023 15:43

For both of my pregnancies they said looked like a boy but never 100% said definitely a boy, despite as @SidekickSylvia says, clearly the 'evidence' of boyness was there!

elliejjtiny · 28/07/2023 15:47

I've heard of a couple of people being told they were having a girl and ended up having a boy.

trevthecat · 28/07/2023 15:49

My second, was told a boy buy definitely had a girl

I should say I have no idea when they were told it was a boy, presumably they were just told once relatively late on.

Do you want to talk about why you're wondering this?

SirenSays · 28/07/2023 15:50

My DHs friends were told it was a boy so they bought blue everything and did a reveal. Then were told girl so took everything back and bought pink everything and did another announcement. Then she had the baby and it was a boy

ladyvivienne · 28/07/2023 15:51

^^ That's hilarious. That's why you wait until you actually have a baby before going nuts buying clothes surely? Silly fools!

Peony654 · 28/07/2023 15:52

Yes I know a few people told a different sex to what it was. My friend found out recently and they made them sign form acknowledging what they were told was only a best estimate! I'm not finding out.

And mine

enemaofthestate · 28/07/2023 15:58

Yes, I know somebody who was told boy/girl twins but had 2 girls

I know someone who was told boy at 16-week scan but 20-week showed a girl and it was in fact a girl

No idea how they mistake a girl for a boy but it definitely happens occasionally

Thirty5 · 28/07/2023 16:05

One of my dd’s classmates parents had this.

Mom was pregnant for the third time and told it was going to be her third boy, she had a low lying placenta so I don’t think they were 100% sure at 20 week scan but were told it was most likely a boy. Then when they went back for additional scan around 36week mark, the midwife made a comment about how it will be nice to have a girl after two boys and the mom couldn’t believe it, she was born and was indeed a lovely healthy girl.

It can be real guess work depending on position of baby. When I was pregnant with my son, they couldn’t figure out during my 20 week scan, in fact if I remember correctly he was all curled up so we had to go back because they couldn’t get accurate measurements. It was quite nice to see him in there again to be honest so I didn’t mind going back for another scan a few weeks later.

WarmBeerAndSandwiches · 28/07/2023 16:05

I have a friend this happened to but the opposite way around, she thought she was having a girl and it turned out to be a boy. She later went on to have a girl as well.

I know someone that happened to

LegendsBeyond · 28/07/2023 16:31

What’s the problem? Yes it happens sometimes.

HuwsLineIsItAnyway · 28/07/2023 16:34

We were told girl at 20 weeks.
If it wasn't for the extra growth scans I h ad to have later in pregnancy it would have been a shock when DS popped out.

Cailleachian · 28/07/2023 16:44

When I had my first, they refused to indicate the sex, apparently a few years prior someone had been told they were having a girl and it turned out to be a boy, and they successfully sued the trust for the cost of redecoration and a baby layette.

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 28/07/2023 16:52

Yet another reason to a) not do a sodding "gender" reveal in the first place, and b) not buy oodles of pink or blue.

LakeTiticaca · 28/07/2023 17:01

At my 20 week scan with my final pregnancy I was told 80% a boy but "we do get it wrong sometimes "
My GP used to do the ante natal appointments (this was 30 years ago)
she told me if they said 80% a boy, it would be a boy. She was correct 🤣

madeleine85 · 28/07/2023 17:33

I've known it both ways round. One person had been told the whole way through she was having a girl, and popped out a boy. Another was told at the 12 week scan that it was a boy, and when she was chatting away about her boy at the 2nd trimester scan the person scanning eventually asked her what on earth she was on about, as it was most definitely a girl.

MissDollyMix · 28/07/2023 17:45

I’ve known quite a few people who were told girl who ended up having a boy. Never known it the other way round though.

HaveYouHeardOfARoadAtlas · 28/07/2023 18:09

I’m a midwife, I’ve known it happen that way round twice. Which I admit surprised me.
