Has anybody been told they are having a boy all the way through and ended up having a girl?

Yes, a doctor and nurse , they were told their third was a boy after two girls, ended up with three girls ( not unhappily though, they were happy with either , just a surprise)

according to my mum, our family GP in the 1960s would tell expectant women they were having a girl, for example, but would write ‘boy’ in the notes or vice versa.

So he won either way. If it was a girl ‘Dr R got it right’. If a boy ‘Dr R, you said a girl?’ Response ‘No, I said boy, look, here are the notes I made at the time’.

Happened to my uni friend- told it was a girl and out popped a boy!

NIPT will tell you definitively as it’s DNA but I think it can only be done around 9-14 weeks.

ithinkhesawus · 09/08/2023 20:19

This is why they don't like to write it down in case they get sued

My parents were told I was a boy, I'm not.
It was the eighties though and I expect ultrasounds have improved a lot since then

SiouxsieSiouxStiletto · 19/08/2023 13:56

I've only heard of this the other way around.

BorneoBound · 19/08/2023 13:58

Yes happened to someone I knew, told boy but had a girl

Destiny123 · 19/08/2023 14:00

6 years of csections haven't yet seen it lol

CremeEggThief · 19/08/2023 14:04

I don't get your post, to be honest.

Everyone is told clearly that no ultrasound can be 100% reliable, so nobody should think it's definitely a girl or a boy when you find out anyway.

You work on the assumption it's probably a girl or a boy, but you could still end up with a surprise at the birth!

Medusaismyhero · 19/08/2023 14:28

Yes, a relative of mine was told boy and the baby was actually a little girl. About 12 years ago now though so I think as scans get better, it's less likely. Both my DC were correctly identified as a girl (25 years ago) and a boy (10 years ago).

How would he have even known in the 60s?

My second, was told a boy buy definitely had a girl

Interesting! Did they see boys bits on the scan?

JanglingJack · 06/10/2024 22:21

I was told boy... It was all there to see! Had a 9lb6 boy. About a foot n half in length, maybe more - couldn't lift him after c-sec!

NHS couldn't confirm in second pregnancy as too much movement. I had to know so went private for 90£ (16 years ago) huge screen.... I saw the burger lines immediately (I hate that phrase!).
Out came a tiny 5lb12 girl...

Crook of my arm baby like the other Mums I'd seen on ward with my son. He's 6'5 now!

When I had my first, they refused to indicate the sex, apparently a few years prior someone had been told they were having a girl and it turned out to be a boy, and they successfully sued the trust for the cost of redecoration and a baby layette.

God I hope that's not true. This blue/pink shit is so depressing.
