Hello everybody,

Sebastian Edward was born last night, 7.34 pm, weighing 10 lb 4 1/2 !!!

First impressions are that he is FINE, thank God. Both dh and I think that he looks as if he might have achondroplasia, which would be fantastic news. He's been feeding beautifully already, and he can cry very well, so I'm happy to say that his lungs are working well at the moment.

I'm not completely relaxed yet because our biggest fear, Jeune syndrome, can't be excluded yet - symptoms of this condition can sometimes start when the child is already weeks, months or even years old. But atm things are looking very, very good and we are relieved and happy.

Thank you all so much again for thinking of me and for giving me all your support through this difficult pregnancy - it's been invaluable, it really has.

Love you all! XXXX

Em - read this on my blackberry at the station tonight and had to pretend I had bad hayfeverGrin

I am so pleased that sebastian has arrived safe and sound:)

And how about mum - how are you - a 10lb+ whopper must have taken some getting out!

Riddo · 20/06/2006 19:41

Congratulations Smile

emkana · 20/06/2006 19:45

Thank you for all your lovely, lovely messages! Smile

I am at home already, got back 3 pm today. I was very pleased that they let me go! We will have a follow-up appointment with the paed in a few weeks' time.

As I write this, Sebastian is sleeping on my lap. Smile The birth was okay, I had Prostin first, lots of hanging around waiting, then they broke my waters, I had an epidural, after only about two hours I suddenly felt I needed to push - no sign of epidural taking pain away anymore then Angry - the midwife said it was the "perfect" epidural for letting me have all the sensations back once I got to the pushing stage - I'm not so sure about that. Grin

Anyway 20 mins of pushing and lots of horrible noises later he was there! Smile

Can I conclude my post with a question - it's normal that newborn babies breathe quite fast, isn't it? Or isn't it?

Greensleeves · 20/06/2006 19:48

They do. Little breathy panting noises Grin

You're bound to be anxious, you've been through hell. That's what MN is here for.

I hope you and your dh can enjoy your gorgeous little boy now, without too much worry. xxx

snowleopard · 20/06/2006 19:53

Congratulations emkana on your wonderful boy!

DS had very fast, erratic breathing when he was newborn and his chest would heave up and down. We asked all the midwives and docs about it over and over as we were worried first-timers, and they all said it was normal and fine - and it calmed down by about 4 weeks.

Papillon · 20/06/2006 19:53
