Here's an excerpt from the story. It reads to me as if it was a planned caesarian, done earlier than due date....in that time honoured celebrity tradition. But, of course, I could be wrong.

By NICK PARKER

GERI Halliwell gave birth to a baby girl last night — after refusing to allow the tot’s dad to be present.

Ex-Spice Girl Geri, 33, checked into a suite at London’s Portland Hospital early yesterday to prepare for a Caesarean section.

Her mum Anna Maria was with her at the birth — which was not due until later this month.

The baby was delivered at 9pm by top obstetrician Malcolm Gillard, who delivered David and Victoria Beckham’s first son Brooklyn.

Mr Gillard was also flown to Spain to oversee the birth of Posh’s third son Cruz and was recommended to Geri.

A hospital source said last night: “The birth went well. Mother and daughter are doing fine.”

Father is Sacha Gervasi.

\link{http://www.contactmusic.com/new/xmlfeed.nsf/mndwebpages/halliwell%20i%20want%20a%20painless%20birth_08_03_2006\This} article suggests she was taking advice on her birth type, only anting as pain free as possible. but not ruling out a c section if doctors recommended it.

nailpolish · 15/05/2006 08:35

Stella is a lovely name

Tortington · 15/05/2006 09:12

congrats to geri - didn't know she was preggers

katzg · 15/05/2006 09:16

itv says she gave birth in the early hours of the morning surely not a normal time for an elective cs - more like an emergency CS

fairyjay · 15/05/2006 09:57

Apparently father was horrified when he learned about the pregnancy, but of late has decided that he wants to be involved. He was coming over from the States to see Geri, to try and talk her round - obviously she beat him to it!

arfy · 15/05/2006 10:02

I really like the name Stella, another off my possible list for mythical baby no.2 (IF she's chosen it that is)

hulababy · 15/05/2006 10:06

I agree Katz. EarllITV suggests birth was in early hours. Earlybord's report says 9pm. Neither seem like normal elective c section times.

sottovoce · 15/05/2006 18:53

Agree about the times. A friend of mine had an elective CS at the portland thought at 8pm. She was booked for 3 days afterwards but went into labour naturally and so had her elective when there was a theatre free. Even in private hospitals you have to queue if there is an emergency in your slot. If Geri went in labour naturally, she would either have had to wait until the theatre was free for an elective or done it the other way.

I can't wait to see the pics either. Smile No doubt nice Mr Desmond and his lovely OK magazine will oblige.

Highlander · 16/05/2006 14:12

who gives a stuff if she had a 'celebrity' elective CS?? Vag births aren't for everyone y'know Wink

HappyMumof2 · 16/05/2006 14:14

who gives a stuff (full stop) is my honest opinion Grin

cardy · 16/05/2006 14:19

Is she still 33!

Earlybird · 23/05/2006 10:07

Geri and the baby are on the front cover of Hello! this week with a huge story inside - must be 20 pages with lots of different photos. Baby is named Bluebell Madonna, and will be called Bluebell. Must say she looks radiant.
