Daily Telegraph

Must be a mumsnetter Grin

Popocatepetl??? that the name of a vulcan in Mexico also know as the Popo (which sounds exactly the same as the Spanish word for poo).

Even if they are into native american culture mythology, the Popcateptls is a male!

wabbitintheheadlamps · 10/04/2006 03:15

wow that is some name! How are they going to teach the poor little poppet to spell her middle name? Sad I can't even read it! Shock

suzywong · 10/04/2006 05:52

I don't believe it

I only know what it means from Malcom Lowry's novel Under the Volcano ( very dreary)

They want a slap, those parents

eidsvold · 10/04/2006 07:00

took dd1 to her first birthday party on the weekend - two sisters.... calamity and cleo!! Here Cleo is a women's magazine known for its male centrefolds..... poor wee things.

although - that one is a doozy JanH

fisil · 10/04/2006 07:29

Are you saying that my new company "fisil's baby naming consultancy" is not being effective JanH? I'll have you know they paid good money for that name.

Pruni · 10/04/2006 07:32

I saw this in PE and PMSL.
I know a Cleo too
Will any Mners own up to H Popo?

kiskidee · 10/04/2006 07:33

then here are some of my choices for any future babies:
Quetzalcoatl
Tlatoani
and my favorite
Tonantzin-Coatlicue

also will consider
Moctezuma
and
Cuautemoc.

newmama · 10/04/2006 07:44

Angry And who are you people to make fun of my choice in names? Hermione is a lovely name and Popocatepetl happens to be where she was concieved. Far better that than to be one of a million Anns in a class! "oh hello Ann, how are you?" "I'm fine Ann, how are you?" "Ok, I'm going over to Anns tonight, you?" "No, I'm going to the movies with ann."

Id rather be unique than glued to the top 20 names list.

Spagblog · 10/04/2006 07:51

Ann isn't that common - this decade anyway

Enid · 10/04/2006 08:23

soooooooooo vile to have the place of conception as a name

Fimbo · 10/04/2006 08:23

Oh and you could go wild and spell Ann with an E to become Anne! Grin

Enid · 10/04/2006 08:24

actually by that token dd1 would be:

dd1 Sea Urchin xxxx
dd2 Trent xxxx
db3 Kersclipon xxxx

Blandmum · 10/04/2006 08:28

Enid, Florence Nitigale was the first girl to be called Florence, because she was born there.

If my parents had don't that I'd be Llwynypia Martinbishop Grin

Enid · 10/04/2006 08:32

being born somehow not as bad as conceived

boak

fisil · 10/04/2006 08:47

I think I feel a thread coming on ...

edam · 10/04/2006 08:57

Hmm, should I go one better and call any future daughter of mine Cloaca? Grin

Blandmum · 10/04/2006 08:58

Frottage

MrsBadger · 10/04/2006 08:59

Am just thankful that Hermione P's mum didn't keep her maiden name, or triple-barrel it with the fathers - imagine:
Hermione Popocatepetl Huntington-Whiteley-Beaumont!

Chandra · 11/04/2006 01:09

Kiskidee, I have Itzel on my list though I also like Quetzal and Citali.

Mexican children can pronounce these names as soon as they can speak a few words (just as your children can pronounce cholate which is another MExican word :)). Now Popo... it's pushing it... ermh...a lot?

Chandra · 11/04/2006 01:09

cholate=chocolate

kiskidee · 11/04/2006 12:27

i think Mexican kids would laugh at someone called Popo.

sounds like we speak a similar language Chandra.

Is Itzel the Moon Goddess in Aztec?
Ixchel (say: Ish-chel) would be her Mayan equivalent

acnebride · 11/04/2006 12:34

my real name must be Tonbridge Diaphragm Failure

must admit slight urge to call ds after the place where he was conceived and we live, but it's just two-way snobbery as i wouldn't have felt the same urge if we'd conceived in Klosters or Lewisham

acnebride · 11/04/2006 12:35

bum. sorry to anyone in lewisham. I like it there and so does my sis who lives there.

bundle · 11/04/2006 12:36

is it some kind of scrabble joke?

buffythenappyslayer · 11/04/2006 12:37
