Kiskidee, I have been told that Itzel is star in Mayan while Citali means the same but in Nahuatl, Ixchel, I think, is a complete different word.

Where are you from? :)

googled and found this:
Itzel - El lucero de la tarde.
De origen maya.

hermykne · 11/04/2006 20:20

mad name
i'm a hermione in rl

marthamoo · 11/04/2006 20:24

I wondered that, buffy - it's her only post (and I assume if she googled her dd's name this thread would come up...)

At least since Harry Potter people know how to pronounce Hermione - I went to school with one and she had to endure the most bizarre mispronounciations of her name.

intergalacticwalrus · 11/04/2006 20:24

I know someone who changed their name by deed poll to Ramjam Delilah Funky Boogaloo Smythe.

That's true that is.

Piffle · 11/04/2006 20:26

My ds's dad (xp) read two volumes of Harry Potter down the phone to ds, before I realised he called her Her Me One
Roared with laughter

MrsBadger · 11/04/2006 20:41

Ramjam is a nice chap - in fact, he invented those foam rubber swords all the kids have these days. How do you know him - you a fencer too?

Less well known, but equally well named, is his brother, Koolandthegang Funkyboogaloo-Smythe.

intergalacticwalrus · 11/04/2006 20:43

Do you really know Ramjam??????????????????

I went to school with his brother

philippat · 11/04/2006 20:48

Enid, wasn't it a bit uncomfortable conceiving dd1 on a sea urchin?

MrsBadger · 11/04/2006 20:57

Yes, but not very well - met at fencing competitions etc, trained at his club for a while when I was in London. Think he's running a company in Wales somewhere now but I've been off the circuit for a while.
I remember when he turned up selling the swords at a competition the first time - people were falling over themselves to get them and having play fights up and down the corridors... ah, so much fun, so many bruises...

intergalacticwalrus · 11/04/2006 21:02

Wow, have just Googled the name, and they wanted my friend from school to change his name from Daniel to Showaddywaddy Bananarama Funkybooglaoo-Smythe.

They are an odd family though. Dan was very very very odd, bless him

fennel · 11/04/2006 21:07

love the name Hermione Popacatapetl

how about, on a Central American volcano theme, 3 children called Agua, Fuego and Acatenango?

kiskidee · 11/04/2006 23:06

and then change your name and dp's to
huehuetenango and quetzaltenango.

Chandra · 11/04/2006 23:50

or Huachinango Grin

Chandra · 11/04/2006 23:53

BAdger, are you still fencing? Miss that so much!, local club really bad... refused to continue as there were so many stupid people refusing to wear a mask or a jacket during practice... Shock

kiskidee · 12/04/2006 00:00

Chandra: do you think anyone would consider unchingado? [evil emoticon]

Chandra · 12/04/2006 00:00

NO, I thought it was bad enough to have the name of a fish! :)

MrsBadger · 12/04/2006 07:26

Chandra - not much. Got an excellent club near us but am too lazy Blush. Think I shall go back when I'm old enough to be a veteran...

which weapon? would I know you from the 1996-2003 competition circuit?

Chandra · 16/04/2006 02:31

MrsBAdger, epee, what about you? I think I'm slightly more of a veteran as I was more active from 1990-1993, but on the other side of the Atlantic.

I think we are ready to return now Grin so young starting fencers can say "oh she is just an oldie" just before their fencing teacher shuts them up with the usual "...if somebody is still fencing at that age is because they are darn good!" Grin
