... born this morning just before 2am at home, in water, as planned. Took a bit longer than the last one - about 6 hours - because she decided to come out fist first, a la superman (wonderwoman?). Also born in her caul (good luck if you are a sailor, apparently) so all in all quite an individual. 9lbs 3.5, masses of dark hair, and in the thickest coating of vernix ever seen, looked like she was ready to swim the channel...

She is called Marina Raphaela.

So that is me done with childbirth for this lifetime! Onto the next challenge. Feeding her - she has jaws of steel and a suck like an industrial traction engine so this is going to be fun...

CONGRATS!

My dad was born in his caul. And I have to say, although he's not a sailor, he's been very, very lucky in his life.

lucy5 · 27/01/2006 21:47

Congratulations PPH So lovely to see you and sweetkitty have had the births you were hoping for. As I have said to sweetkitty - make dure that positioning is spot on to avoid the 'jaws of steel'. Lovely news and welcome to Marina

Well done pph! Lovely name too!

expatinscotland · 27/01/2006 22:27

DD2 had 'jaws of steel'. Turns out not enough of my nipple was in her mouth. Have you seen a counsellor? It only took a few tries w/the NCT counsellor to sort out DD2s latch and then it was pretty painless, much to my disbelief!

WideWebWitch · 27/01/2006 23:00
