... born this morning just before 2am at home, in water, as planned. Took a bit longer than the last one - about 6 hours - because she decided to come out fist first, a la superman (wonderwoman?). Also born in her caul (good luck if you are a sailor, apparently) so all in all quite an individual. 9lbs 3.5, masses of dark hair, and in the thickest coating of vernix ever seen, looked like she was ready to swim the channel...

She is called Marina Raphaela.

So that is me done with childbirth for this lifetime! Onto the next challenge. Feeding her - she has jaws of steel and a suck like an industrial traction engine so this is going to be fun...

Congrats PPH

Gingerbear · 27/01/2006 16:37

I didn't have a clue what Caul was, so after googling I found this:

'In medieval times the appearance of a caul on a newborn baby was seen as a sign of good luck. It was considered an omen that the child was destined for greatness.'

Congratulations PPH, you have given birth to a star.

SorenLorensen · 27/01/2006 16:37

Well, Marina sounds like a name for a girl who could use good sailing omens! And with the vernix too... proper water baby! Good job you didn't use a pool, she'd have been off!

Really gorgeous name, good luck to you all.

X
