Expat's Flower in Scotland - Another Quicky Entry

Yesterday, at 10.26AM, I gave birth to a healthy, 6lbs., 9oz. baby girl, Roisin Louise, at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

Had what I thought were painful B-H contractions all day Friday.

Woke Sat. morning around 6 and was feeling sore, so went and had a long shower and 2 paracetemol.

Well, by 7 was feeling quite sore, so phoned community midwife - who had mobile switched off - and tried to eat.

Phoned ILs around 8 to please collect DD.

At 9, was on all 4s in major pain, so MIL politely suggested we just drive to hospital

Upon arrival at 9.45 was feeling REALLY poorly and like I needed the loo, but couldn't go.

Now last time I'd have full on epidural and forceps so I didn't know what it felt like.

They rushed me up to L&D as soon as I said that and it was discovered I was 9cm dilated!

Couldn't BELIEVE that after DD took 24 hours to arrive.

No time for drugs! Which was awful!

She was born at 10.26AM after more liberal use of the f-word than Gordon Ramsay, although all I got was a graze.

She latched on in the delivery room, although I still haven't gotten her to do it except when she's under my arm.

Good enough for us!

We stayed the night to crack breast feeding and just got home around 3.

Can't believe I'm not preggo anymore. Woohoo!

Best to all the December ladies for safe, speedy deliveries.

Janh · 11/12/2005 22:39

Blimey, expat - I just saw your post on Floss's 2-bedroom flat thread and thought "no, she's only got one and one on the way, did I miss something?"

Obviously I did! Congratulations to all of you on another lovely girl

Janh · 11/12/2005 22:43

Oh, for the sore-bits-while-weeing, rinse out an empty shampoo bottle or similar and fill it with lukewarm water just before you go, then you can squirt it and dilute the wee (it works for UTIs!)

dramaqueen72 · 11/12/2005 22:55

Congratulations expat and welcome Roisin

thecattleareALOHing · 11/12/2005 23:09

Congratulations!

The best thing for defusing any potential jealousy for my ds was adopting a high, squeaky voice as the voice of the baby and saying things like 'I love my big brother' 'my brother is so clever' 'I wish I could talk and walk like my big brother' 'Good night big brother' etc etc - ds adored it!

And all the usual - 'look, she's smiling at you' 'she thinks you are her favourite person in the world' etc

MARINAtivityPlay · 11/12/2005 23:12

expatinscotland · 12/12/2005 11:35

Gotta love MIL! In her soft, middle class Edinburgh accent, 'Enough faffing about. This is no time for performances. Think it's time you went on to hospital.'

Guess having had two in record time, she sort of knew what she was talking about.
