Yesterday, at 10.26AM, I gave birth to a healthy, 6lbs., 9oz. baby girl, Roisin Louise, at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

Had what I thought were painful B-H contractions all day Friday.

Woke Sat. morning around 6 and was feeling sore, so went and had a long shower and 2 paracetemol.

Well, by 7 was feeling quite sore, so phoned community midwife - who had mobile switched off - and tried to eat.

Phoned ILs around 8 to please collect DD.

At 9, was on all 4s in major pain, so MIL politely suggested we just drive to hospital

Upon arrival at 9.45 was feeling REALLY poorly and like I needed the loo, but couldn't go.

Now last time I'd have full on epidural and forceps so I didn't know what it felt like.

They rushed me up to L&D as soon as I said that and it was discovered I was 9cm dilated!

Couldn't BELIEVE that after DD took 24 hours to arrive.

No time for drugs! Which was awful!

She was born at 10.26AM after more liberal use of the f-word than Gordon Ramsay, although all I got was a graze.

She latched on in the delivery room, although I still haven't gotten her to do it except when she's under my arm.

Good enough for us!

We stayed the night to crack breast feeding and just got home around 3.

Can't believe I'm not preggo anymore. Woohoo!

Best to all the December ladies for safe, speedy deliveries.

How fantastic expat, I'm so pleased

It's really great to hear you sounding so well- no sign of the problems you had last time by the sounds of it? Kiss Roisin for me.

Congratulations - glad you had a better birth story this time around

Wecome to little Roisin too

mears · 11/12/2005 18:06

Wow, brilliant news Expat - sooooo pleased for you. Now remember it will be normal if she wants to be latched all the time

Also remember it will be normal to be greetin' anywhere between day 3 and 10, despite fab labour. So glad you had such a different birth experience. Make sure you get some rest during the day - you must put yourself to bed in the afternoons, even if you don't sleep (which you will ) So pleased for you

edgetop · 11/12/2005 18:10

sobernoel · 11/12/2005 18:40

Bloody well done, expat! Best tip I was given for sore bits was to wee in running water (hold the shower head over your backside).

Congratulations to all of you xx

littledonkeyrach · 11/12/2005 18:50

Wonderful news.
Congratulations to you all.

expatinscotland · 11/12/2005 18:55

This 'graze' hurts! I am able to take ibuprofen, however, despite bfing, and it seems to be doing the trick combined w/paracetemol.

Roisin takes AGES to eat! You have to keep stroking her wee cheek and then she comes off one boob, wants a wind, then goes back on the other. She's a windy wee thing. But she goes a while between feeds, so I feel lucky.

I was bad and did all sorts of stuff in the kitchen and bathed DD1 b/c she's feeling jealous - she mimicks the baby's cry and wants to come over and sit on your lap when you change the baby's nappy.

I'm paying for it now. Ouch.
