At long last... hester's daughter is here

After many years of hard work and heartbreak, I finally went into labour on Monday (my due date) and gave birth Tuesday morning 7am. After 28 hours painful but unproductive back labour, I went for augmentation with epidural. Sadly, the epi caused my blood pressure to crash, my contractions to stop and the baby's heartrate to decelerate alarmingly. The decelerations didn't stabilise, so I ended up delivering by caesarean section.

Ava was born with excellent apgar scores, 7lb 2oz, with masses of dark hair and big blue eyes. She is a corker. She has talipes but it does not seem particularly severe, and otherwise seems a healthy baby. She has taken to breastfeeding with great gusto, but sadly only at night and only on one side. We are working on this.

Mothers and baby are all doing well. Thanks to all the lovely mumsnetters who have kept me going through conception, miscarriage, pregnancy, foetal abnormality scares and now birth. You are stars.

Fantastic and congratulations! relax and enjoy you new baby girl. Such a nice name.

marthamoo · 20/10/2005 23:26

Hester, I don't know your 'story' but I sense there's a lot more to Ava's arrival than is conveyed in this post - so heartfelt congratulations.

My ds1 was born with mild talipes too - he is almost 9 now and while he has had some physio and he is never going to be the world's greatest athlete (like his Mum ) it has not caused him any great problems.

I hope she sorts her days and nights out soon (been there, done that!) Welcome to Ava !

Blu · 20/10/2005 23:28

Hester - brilliant! (this thread appeared to have disappeared from view - that's why I was nagging you like a mad thing!)
Anyway, bloody brilliant.
The whole cs thing sounds as if it had it's scary moments - but she's here, well done.
Welcome little Ava, and much love to all of you. How is dp enjoying it all? Are you out of hospital?
And what about her little footsies? Has she been 'looked at' yet?

Can't wait to see her.

XXXXXXX

Huge congratulations! Fantastic news.
28 hours of back labour? You are a bloody heroine. I had it overnight and that was MORE than enough for me. HOrrid, isn't it?
But never mind, gorgeous, fabulous, beautiful Ava is here at last, right where she should be, at home with her family.

ScummyMummy · 21/10/2005 09:18

Fabulous news, hester.

ScummyMummy · 21/10/2005 09:21

Is talipes bendy feet? I had that and had to wear torture boots as a baby and one of my sons had it and had physio and a plaster cast for a few weeks. My son's bendy foot was soooo cute I almost didn't want it to straighten up. (It has though!)

Marina · 21/10/2005 09:48

Oh Hester, a teary post from me. Much love to you, Ava and dp, it is so lovely to know she is here safe and sound at last, and that the talipes is less of a worry than you had been led to believe.
You are going to have to sort that feeding out though, the little pickle
I suffered dips in bp with both my spinals, not noticeably affecting either baby at the time, but I remember what a horrendous feeling it is as you know you are blanking out...
Looking forward to meeting your beautiful blue-eyed little bird some time soon

bossykate · 21/10/2005 09:49

congratulations and welcome ava

PollyLogos · 21/10/2005 09:51

Many, many congratulations Hester to you and dh. I remember some of your posts in the past and am so happy to hear of this wonderfully happy outcome to all your struggles.

princesspeahead · 21/10/2005 09:52

fantastic news, many congrats! my db had mild talipes as a baby and had to wear "special boots" - didn't seem to stop him from doing anything and he was very quickly out of them and fine.
anyway she sounds beautiful (dark hair and blue eyes - brilliant combo), congratulations!
