For those of you who dont know Wilfred and I i'll explain. When Wilfred was two days before his fifth birthday he found his daddy dead in bed....... It has taken a long time and a lot of heartache tears and support from friends family and Winstons Wish to get us where we are today. Wilfred is profoundly deaf and has additional difficulties as well. He attends the Royal School for Deaf Children in Margate.
This evening just as i was going out to watch my friends children in their school play the phone rang. i was slightly alarmed as it was the personal classroom number for his teacher. She told me not to panic when i answered. She told me that See Hear the programme for deaf people had been filming Wilfreds class today to do with signing books for deaf children. The book that was read was The Gruffalo and afterwards the children were asked what they thought of the book.
Wilfred was asked if it was a book he would read with his Daddy and Mummy. He replied that he didnt have a Daddy, that his Daddy had died but that he would read it with his Mummy.

His teacher said he was brilliant didnt get upset and flustered. I of course burst into tears when she told me and ended up crying on my neighbours shoulder at school. She was lovely and said that Wilfred did have a Daddy just that he wasnt with him and was watching him from nearby. I am so very proud of him tonight................

giving you a cuddle. fwiw, I grew up with only a mum, dad dies when I was tiny, and I was v matter of fact about it too... as were the other children around me. Only now I am a mum did I realise what my mum went through.

Lizzylou · 03/12/2008 20:50

Lottie, you have every right to be proud, Wilfred sounds fantastic (and looks lovely too), am crying now

noonki · 03/12/2008 20:52

how lovely, what an amazingly boy, You've got me in tears now .

Do not know whether to add, but I will anyway, my dad lost his Mum when he was 4, and he said he was told she was always watching him. He loved this except when he did anything naughty as he thought he would always be in trouble with her when she saw him in heaven!...thought I would mention it as he used to talk to his mum to make sure that she wasnt cross with him.

Mamazontopofsanta · 03/12/2008 20:53

oh FGS! i just re read it and im crying again.

pinkfrogsroastingonanopenfire · 03/12/2008 21:20
