Just having a discussion with my partner as I have no idea. What would you have for your funeral songs?

Guide Me O Thou Great Redeemer, only because any songs or hymns I know in Cymraeg would not be known by enough people.

shellyleppard · 13/11/2024 21:48

I'm having one day like this by elbow, hymns thine eyes have seen the glory /all things bright and beautiful, and final song switch 625 by def leppard. Just cos it's an absolute belter and it will wake everyone up!!

My family disapprove of my 'Bat out of hell' and 'every breath you take' suggestions for mine....

Dollybantree · 13/11/2024 21:50

Although I hate the film I always smile at the bit where Liam Neeson’s dead wife’s coffin slides into the furnace to “Bye Bye Baby” by the Bay City Rollers, so maybe that!

Also I’d have “When Ye Go Away” by the Waterboys as it’s my favourite song.

OnNaturesCourse · 13/11/2024 21:51

According to my family my choice of "highway to hell" would be frowned upon lol.

I'm Scottish so my next choice would be bagpipes but not sure of song choice.

Fields of Gold - the Eva Cassidy version

My school friend had this at hers.

We were 17. Still haunts me when I hear it, but it's beautiful.

Are You Ready To Be Heartbroken by Lloyd Cole and The Commotions (bit dramatic?)
Baby Can I Hold You by Tracy Chapman (I'm always saying sorry...)
Asleep by The Smiths

I made this Funeral playlist in Spotify just a few weeks ago.

My sister wanted For Good from Wicked but my parents completely ignored. If I pop my clogs before them I'll have that too, for her (for both of us).

Goodbye, good bye, good bye tillidity.

I'd really like YNWA sung by the Kop, but it would be too difficult for my adult child.

So I've settled for no music, no one attending.

A friend who died recently had Ashokan Farewell as her coffin left the church, played on a solo violin, and it absolutely finished us all off - it was heartbreaking. We'd (i.e. the choir) already sung Vaughan Williams' Valiant-for-Truth, which always makes me want to cry anyway because of the words.

My pals brother had the Sex Pistols one at his funeral. It was brilliant.

My DD gas chosen Smile by Nat King Cole for mine as I used to sing it to her when she was being mardy.

My best friend had dust in the wind and he was cremated!

Never got to ask him if it was tongue in cheek or not as we threw his ashes of Blackpool pier
