Step son's mother died this morning

She's been terminally ill for 5 years and up until a few months ago you'd never have known. She had her bad days and she was in excruciating pain half the time but she never let people see it. She only ever wanted to best for her son. She welcomed me into his life (and her own) with open arms and accepted my children with such love (even taking all the children overnight and on holidays when she still could) and affection. Most people aren't so lucky to have a husband with such a remarkable exW and it's unfair that we've all had to lose her so soon.

I'm no where near the woman she was and I have no idea how I can even attempt to fill that gap in my step sons life but I will certainly do my best to make her proud.

If anyone would like to raise a glass to her tonight, it'd be appreciated. She loved a brandy Alexander, and her name was Marina. I don't think she ever understood just how much she was going to be missed.

Off to pull myself together now

This is beautiful. You are clearly a wonderful person too and I’m sure that knowing you’d be in her sons life eased her passing.

RIP Marina Flowers

Oh goodness that's so sad.

I will raise a glass to her tonight. RIP Marina

You sound like a great SM. I wish you all all the very best Thanks

rosamore · 16/05/2018 17:48

Thank you, everyone. She was such a great woman.

I have no idea what to do tonight at all. We've got a family grief counselling session tomorrow (we've been going for a couple of months) but it feels very soon.

RIP Marina

May those left behind find peace, love and much strength.

Rosemore she would be proud of you and would have found it a great relief to have a person such as you in her ds's life.

Bless you all. I’m so sorry for your family’s loss 💐

minmooch · 16/05/2018 17:56

What a lovely tribute to Marina.

When my eldest son was diagnosed with cancer of the brain his dad, step mum and I spent much time together helping both kids through his illness and death. I couldn't have done it without the love, friendship and support of his step mum. Both my sons love her and she them.

The hospice said they rarely saw divorced families so at ease with each other.

I shall raise a glass tonight xx

rosamore · 16/05/2018 18:46

Thank you again, all. I feel so cloudy at the moment and quite self doubting but I know that all I can do is my best to do what she'd have wanted.

Sorry for your loss, minmooch, but also thank you for sharing and I'm so glad to hear that you had so much support and love through a horrible time. DS's mum was one of my closest friends, something I never thought could be possible with my husbands exW (it seemed like too much of an odd concept). Thanks

So sorry for your loss, I will raise a glass to both of you. This is the kind of relationship I wish to have with my DSS mum so I'm so happy you got to have that with her. She would be happy knowing that you are a part of her son's life.
