She's been terminally ill for 5 years and up until a few months ago you'd never have known. She had her bad days and she was in excruciating pain half the time but she never let people see it. She only ever wanted to best for her son. She welcomed me into his life (and her own) with open arms and accepted my children with such love (even taking all the children overnight and on holidays when she still could) and affection. Most people aren't so lucky to have a husband with such a remarkable exW and it's unfair that we've all had to lose her so soon.
I'm no where near the woman she was and I have no idea how I can even attempt to fill that gap in my step sons life but I will certainly do my best to make her proud.
If anyone would like to raise a glass to her tonight, it'd be appreciated. She loved a brandy Alexander, and her name was Marina. I don't think she ever understood just how much she was going to be missed.
Off to pull myself together now
