Can we not do something for ggg?

I feel very deeply affected by the tragic loss of her youngest daughter. I wonder if there is anything we could do collectively? Does anyone have any good ideas? I'm willing to do all the organising.

IF anything is done, I thought what blu said- a sort of book of condolensces, if every one sent something those of us who do the Arts&Crafts threds could eprhaps do soke each and turn it into a scrapbook, with places she could put mementos? But heartily agree with the nort rushing in idea.

Soapbox · 04/01/2007 18:08

Perhaps in the meantime we could set up a section of the candle site for her DD, perhaps Beety or Rhuby could let us know if that would be appropriate.

And perhaps someone who knows how to link to the site and set up a place of memory within it, could do so.

SaggarClaus · 04/01/2007 18:16

We use this Candles site on a support forum I use.
An MN group can be set up.

Lucycat · 04/01/2007 18:16

is it somewhere like this?

megandsoph · 04/01/2007 18:18

Maybe we could organise a rose plant with a plaque in honour of GGG's baby girl from us all.

I can't think of anything else just so so sad for GGG

Bumping for anyone who would like to light a candle.

funnypeculiar · 04/01/2007 19:07

beautiful idea - bumping for others who want to light a cangle for GGG & family.
No useful ideas otherwise - has anyone out there been through anything similar - can't imagine it/what could possibly help....

Twinkie1 · 04/01/2007 19:12

Marina suggested I buy a special box for my sister when her DS died - one to keep photos and special things in - could we not get a really nice box made maybe - get someone to carve one or look around for one. It would have to be quite big of course but someone on here must know someone who could do it - maybe get something eloquent and appropriate carved onto it??

PeachyClair · 04/01/2007 19:29

I don't know about carved, but jayzmummy does special memento booxes lovingly done all personalised, papercraft etc.

Rhubarb · 04/01/2007 20:58

I agree with waiting for a while. I shouldn't imagine she'll want to be contacted at all right now.

But some of these ideas are lovely and perhaps they are good to think about perhaps a little later on.

I also thought about sponsoring a child in a third world country in her dd's memory? But I think perhaps we do need another MNer who has gone through similar to let us know how appropriate these ideas would be for her.

Bananaknickers · 04/01/2007 21:21

thanks Spacecadet X

VeniVidiVickiQV · 04/01/2007 21:23

Dont know how to light a candle either.

Have had a look at some companies that name roses re having a rose named after ggg's DD to then be planted in her memory.

Just doesnt seem like anywhere near enough though

PeachyClair · 04/01/2007 22:15

with the rose, my Uncle managed to find a rare rose named the same as his daughter who diesd at 5 from leaukaemia. I know that tending that rose was very special to him, it now grows over the churchyard where she is buried ( it was a long time ago, she would be 33 like me now) and he has it in his garden.

threelittlesnowdrops · 05/01/2007 00:19

Rhubarb- will email you x

MamazonAKAfatty · 05/01/2007 00:59

Could i suggest a locket.

If we cuold make a collection. it would be something that culd be a lasting momento.

When my sister died we bought my mum a locket as she could wear it close to her heart always. it is something she never takes off and it means the world to her.

I don't know GGG well enough to know if its appropriate but i just think that something lasting would be good.

We also found a rose that was named for her. If one doesn't exist for her name they can make one (there is a term for it but i can't think)

Again we fuond that very helpfull as it was something that grew and we could tend to.
I will see if i can find the information of the place we found my sisters.

maisym · 05/01/2007 01:07

what about a donation to a charity - we could each choose a charity and donate to it - not just money. We could post here on the charity & type of donation.

hunkermunker · 05/01/2007 01:47

I've just lit a candle and put ggg as initials because I thought it was for her, not from me. Just to avoid any confusion - would hate any speculation over it. I am a dope. Sorry

Chandra · 05/01/2007 02:07

I was thinking about a donation to charity too, could we make a mumsnet donation to the charity of GGG's choice? or any that supports research in the area that covers the suspected causes of her DD's death? (although I don't know the causes or if they have been found so this might be a bit premature at this stage)
