HI. Has anyone ever heard of a molar pregnancy? diagnosed last week, had d and c done. have to have weekly bloods to monitor hormone levels and may not be able to try for another baby for another year. am still in a bit of shock cos i really wanted this baby and then to be told there was never even a baby there.....very confused. no information forthcoming from hospital except they will be monitoring me!!! all info on net talking about cancerous cells and possible need for chemo at some stage....all very frightening....anyone had similar experience?

My mum had one of these 37 years ago when she was 25 ish in between my older brother and me. She had it removed fully conscious with no pain killers

However, everything was fine afterwards and she in her 60's now and no sign of cancer.

Hello TOD, Every time i come on to mumsnet i wonder how you are, so thank you for keeping me updated. That's great news about your new job, i hope life is looking a little brighter for you now . My life is very chaotic at the mo with a return of the school run (boo) and a toddler suffering with the terrible twos, and not forgetting my youngest who is now crawling - all good fun!!! But i can't complain as when i suffered my molar pregnancy i could only dream about what i now have. And the same will happen for you i'm sure . Are you now 1/2 way through your follow up ??? Where have those months gone ??? All the best with your new job and i hope to hear how you are doing soon. Take care.

HELLO TOD, i'm soo HAPPY that you're well & things are going o.k - if not hectic!! When does your follow up finish, is it around December?? I'm feeling quite stressed at the moment due to the countdown to christmas, i'm determined this year not to leave it to the last minute & be a little more organised!! Mind you i say this every year!! How is your little ones' tantrums going?? On a scale of 1 - 10 mine have reached 11 & showing no sides of subsiding - aargh, they are just so wearing, & there is no reasoning with him . Nevermind as they say nothing lasts forever!! Anyway i hope life is a little quieter with you, & i look forward to hearing how you are getting on - take care.

Hello Nikki, i've just logged on and read your message. I'm so sorry about the loss of your baby and what you are going through. I just want you to know that you are not alone, although i Know at the time you feel like you'll the only one & how difficult it is to find information about the condition!! Are you under Charing X hospital for monitoring??? Their website is useful although don't become too alarmed about everything you read about it on the internet!!! I went to bed scared & terrified after what i had read, only to find in reality it did'nt happen & was very unlikely to happen. Like you my hcg levels did'nt drop quickly enough and in the end they performed a second d&c & found a piece of tissue remaining, after that fortunately my levels began to drop. If they had'nt i think i would have been treated at Charing X. I think i had a partial mole, but even today i'm not sure!! Please don't feel alone and if you ever need to talk I'll be keeping an eye out for you. Just try & take one day at a time as i know how hard it is to accept and start to begin to understand what has just happened. Sending you a BIG HUG and take great care of yourself.

Hi Nikki

I've just seen your message. i had a molar too. i mc in July and found out it was a molar end of August. I too was really scared as i did a lot reading on the internet and didn't have a consultation with a doctor. Having said that, the reality to date (finger's crossed) although it's been stressful, it has worked out ok. Have you had the D&C now and do you know about the monitoring?

Keep in touch if you like.
i don't often come on this website so i will check it to see how you are doing.

Take care
Lisa

I had a molar pregnancy in 2002 - mc in Aug (at the end of a holiday - A&E followed by EPU scan the following morning and D&C that afternoon). No 'abnormal' message sent to my Doctor, so, although I kept on going back with symptoms, not properly checked out until October - sent for scan the following morning, 2nd D&C that afternoon (as emergency)(lost 1.5l blood etc that time). Scan 1wk later suggested all OK, but heavy bleeding next week resulted in further scan - D&C not successful. Admitted immediately, and tranferred (by ambulance which felt oke overkill) to Sheffield. Chemo started following week. 9 courses (18 weeks) resulted in 0 levels again. My last injection was on my dd which makes that a very difficult day in the year.

Although it seems to have an effect like cancer, I was told that it wasn't cancer and is different. Sheffield are absolutely fantastic - wonderful people and very caring. Not a good experience though.

On a positive front, my ds was conceived 18 months later (not allowed to conceive for 1yr) and is now 18months.

THE GOOD NEWS IS I DID A POS PREGNANCY TEST YESATERDAY SO I AM ALL EXCITED! I WANT TO TELL THE WORLD....BUT WE HAVE DECIDED TO WAIT AND AT LEAST HAVE THE 6 WEEK SCAN DONE TO MAKE SURE ALL IS WELL.
I ADMIT I AM NERVOUS COS I HOPE IT IS A NORMAL PRENANACY AND NOT A REOCCURANCE
AS WE ONLY STOPPED USING PRECAUTIONS A MONTH AGO....BEFORE MY FOLLOW UP FINISHED, VERY CHEEKY I KNOW BUT I WAS SO SICK OF IT AND WE WERE SO CLOSE TO THE END AND I DID'NT THINK I WOULD GET PREGNANT SO QUICK!!

Hi TOD
Your news has made me feel 100% better!
I had missed m/c in July which was eventually diagnosed as molar in early Nov. Very frustrating that it took so long to diagnose - earlier and I could have been nearly sorted by now!
I had 2 massive bleeds and on the second one lost half my blood which promoted them to take me a bit more seriously! But had D&C at end of Nov and hormone levels right down now. My HCG level was never over 50 so I feel a bit fraudish as well!
Have to wait the 6 months as you did - but so pleased that you have conceived again and it gives me real hope. Fingers crossed so much for you and I hope you have a wonderful blessed pregnancy. I also hope I will be joining you around June time!
Take care
Julie

Hi Cuillan ,I am so glad you got to read this and thanks for all your kind words and best wishes!!!! Delighted to hear all is well in your house....they just grow up so fast!!!
I went to gp yesterday to have routine bloods and mentioned I had a little bit of spotting.....nothing like before and I feel very different....which I'm taking as a good sign! However she is sending me for a scan tomorrow to be on the safe side! My only worry is that I am not completed 6 weeks until saturday and I'm half afraid it'S too early to see anything.....to be honest i feel a little sick at the thought of it but fingers crossed that all is well.
joolsw....sorry to hear that you had to go through all that...its horrible....hopefully your follow up will go well and june is only around the corner...keep the chin up ,i know how hard it can be sometimes but it does get easier when you can seee light at the end of the tunnell! Keep in touch.

Hello TOD, thanks for your message. I'm feeling alot better now that the weekend is finally here!! Have you had days when everything goes wrong from the moment you get up ?? Unfortunately that has summed up my week, but a new week is about to begin & hopefully it will be a better one!! Is'nt it funny that we all look forward to feeling nauseous, nature has a weird sense of humour!! Plenty of rest & tlc is what i'd prescribe for you for the next 8 months - in an ideal world i know!! Enjoy your weekend & take lots of care. xxxxx
