M/C. MY UPDATE & HELP NEEDED

CarlyP · 06/03/2006 14:10

Hi Everyone!

Well since finding uot on 17/2 there was no heartbeat, i have been bleeding since then. went to epu friday and dr removed some 'retained tissue' and done a blood test.

today 06/03 the blood loss has turned to 'brown' (mostly) and seems to be finally slowing down.

however the bloods still had my hcg at 299. which they said was to high and i have to go back on friday for more bloods and a scan. any hcg stayed 'high' what is the reason and what is 'normal' hcg meant to be?

i have really dry patches of skin on my hands and arms since this. could it be the stress?

hope everyones well. i would be coming upto 12wks this week. its wierd. but after bleeding for nrly 3wks i just hope it stops soon.

sending my love to all of you.

So sorry - no answers but bumping this for you Sad

prettybird · 06/03/2006 14:40

"Normal" hcg if all preganancy products had been reomoved should be zero.

It may be that you will need a scan to check that there is nothing left.

CarlyP · 06/03/2006 14:53

thank you. it seems to be taking ages to get back down to '0'. hopefully its heading in the right directionthough.

I was wondering how it was going for you. I don't know what the high results mean - unless there's still some remaining tissue that the doctor missed. Maybe it takes a while for these things to slow down. I was diagnosed with my missed m/c last week but my boobs are still large and tender and in some ways I still feel pg.
I have been bleeding (though not heavily) and have an appointment at the EPAU tomorrow.

rubles · 06/03/2006 17:32

CarlyP,

I remember my hcg taking what felt like ages to go down to zero although mine was being measured with urine tests so was less specific than yours. In the end it took nearly 3 weeks from when I passed the egg sac to when I had another bleed, and that seemed to do it. I found it weird being pregnant but not pregnant as I still had bad skin and was funny about food.

Hopefully the doctor got the last bit of tissue out so you can begin to see a light at the end of the tunnel.

cupcakes · 06/03/2006 17:49

I still feel funny about food. Especially broccoli. It's weird.

Hi Carlyp I posted on the other thread too, hoping your coming to the end of this sad time hun. If you blood is trying up which it sounds it is maybe your hcg will follow. Are they scanning you for checking things are going back to normal? At my hospital they didn't take bloods to check hcg they simply scanned until they saw that the womb was returning to normal and the tissues had left the womb too.? Maybe you need a scan if they haven't offered you one. x

FirstNikki · 07/03/2006 16:54

Also wanted to say I have had terrible dry skin, with itching too all over body and really dry hands. I think it maybe to dehydration so I am trying to drink plenty of water

CarlyP · 08/03/2006 07:38

thanks firstnikki.

got to book a scan once bleeding has stopped. so waiting for that really.

i jsut didnt think id be bleeding for nrly 3wks. its wiping me out.

hope you are well.

Carly- My hcg levels barely dropped and turned out I had "retained products". I remember wishing pg tests to be neg and wishing my hcg levels were normal (weird after you've been ttc'ing). I hope they can get you sorted soon hun. Try and get iron rich foods into you (red meat and grean leafy veg are great). It'll help wiith your prolonged bleeding.
Take it easy xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Carly,
Sorry you are going through this. I had a m/c in June last year at about 7 weeks in. A scan showed no sac or baby and I had been bleeding quite heavily so it looked like there was nothing left BUT my HcG levels weren't dropping as they should - apparently they should drop by about half every 48 hours. I was at the hospital every 2 days for 3 weeks til they dropped to a level where they were happy to discharge me. I think thatthe concern that can be raised if the hormones don;t fall away is the possibility of an ectopic pg.
I really don't want to worry you or anything -- just telling you what happened to me. FWIW the modwives I saw said that not everyone's hormones do return to normal levels inthe timescale - we are all different.
I'm now 23 weeks pregnant so I hope you see that as reassuring in itself.
All the best.

cupcakes · 08/03/2006 15:54

I asked if I needed the blood tests when I had my scan yesterday and they said I didn't as they could see from the scans that everything was where it should be and the blood tests were used in cases were they suspected ectopic. However, I can't believe they can really be suspecting this in your case as I'm sure they would have admitted you by now rather than leaving it till the unknown time when the bleeding stops. Why won't they scan you now?
I have another scan booked for next week to confirm that everything has finished (regardless of whether or not I'm still bleeding).
It's funny how different hospitals seem to have different policies.
I'm relieved it has happened for me now. The bleeding is still heavy and I've been taking painkillers for the period-like pain. They told me not to take ibuprofen as it had a very slight risk of haemorages (sp?) in m/c cases and was told to use codeine based products instead.

Hope you are better soon.

CarlyP · 09/03/2006 07:25
