Naming of parts - what shall we call my dd's wotsit?

PoppyField · 10/11/2009 21:49

Ok I'm sure this ground has been covered in previous threads but me and DH are a bit stuck on this one. We have a 2 year old DD and need to fix on what we call her private parts. I'm all for calling it her bottom or botty - I don't feel the need to discriminate between 'front and back bottom', but DH seems to want to call front bottom something different. Obviously I know what it is like growing up as a girl so I feel I should have the casting vote - and having a 'botty' never did me any harm. Plus for some ridiculous reason, he calls her genitalia her 'wendy'. Has anyone EVER heard of this before? I don't know where he's got it from and it just makes me cringe every time I hear it, no doubt she'll pick it up very soon and then we'll be stuck with it!

So what do you think guys? Help please. I hate coy euphemisms but some are worse than others....so is it going to be botty, fanny, tush, latin terminology or what?

And how do I convince DH that 'wendy' is just the worst awful yuk euphemism ever?

Thanks all.

DianaDavrosandthesupremedaleks · 10/11/2009 21:53

Just go with wotsit.

Go on I dare you.

redsofas · 10/11/2009 21:56

we call ds' things willy and bum, if i had a dd id probably say bum and either fanny or lulu

Hullygully · 10/11/2009 21:59

under frontal nethers here

hazeyjane · 10/11/2009 21:59

I would just avoid peoples names (wendy, lulu, judy, mary, minnie etc) because you will inevitably meet someone, someday with that name and sniggering will be inevitable.

kateecass · 10/11/2009 22:00

DS has willy and bum/bottom DD 14 months has girl's bit and bottom. I don't think it'll change as she gets older

Claire2009 · 10/11/2009 22:07

DD, Flower and bum.
DS, willy and bum.

VengefulSinner · 10/11/2009 22:12

Oooh, I have been wanting to post this question for ages! I have ds so 'tis easy for me, but when he asks questions about boys and girls I wonder what to call it!

When I was young it was mini (but now ds would associate that with Minnie Mouse) and fanny. Friends called it lulu or mary. I agree with hazey though, no peoples names...

mooseloose · 10/11/2009 22:21

Ha ha at Wendy !!
Don't like fanny at all - very coarse.
Flower?

kreecherlivesupstairs · 11/11/2009 08:15

My dd has finally settled on a bit. Singular not plural. She peed her pants at her Aus godfather's name for his dd's - date.

VengefulSinner · 11/11/2009 09:10

Date?!!! :S

teameric · 11/11/2009 09:14

DS- bum & willy
DD- bum & noonie, (I've called mine this since I was little )

saintmaybe · 11/11/2009 09:16

well i think that vagina is the bit inside, so if you wanted to be accurate it would be vulva.

teameric · 11/11/2009 09:22

vagina and vulva are horrible words though aren't they? well I think so anyway.
noonie is much nicer

ImSoNotTelling · 11/11/2009 09:31

This comes up every week, and still no decent answer. Why isn't there an equivalent of "willy"??

Anyway DD is now over 2 and I still haven't found anything that feels quite right. I think "girly bits" may be winning the day.

If I had a boy he would have a willy (penis and testicles for formal occasions only) so my DD is not having a vulva. Well she's got one, obv, but you know what I mean.

Seededbiatch · 11/11/2009 09:47

I agree, we need an equivalent to willy, a fem version. If boys don't have to call their bits by the proper title then why do girls?

My DD is 7 and we've always called it a mini but like others have said the inevitable sniggering comes along when someone is driving a mini or there's a mini this or that so it's not ideal.

Fanny is a bit coarse and is also a name albeit not a very popular one currently but a name none the less.

I have heard of it called a wendy before but she is bound to meet a Wendy and may very well have a goggle and then you'll have explain to said Wendy that in your house she's a vulva, nice.

I really don't like front bottom, it sounds like something from someone who can't bear to think of their vulva/vagina so is just lumping it together with whatever else is 'down there'.

How about something similar to willy, so girls really can have a similar alternative, something like gilly or dilly?

thedollshouse · 11/11/2009 09:51

I grew up calling it a "lily" but as Lily is now a popular girls names it is probably not a good idea.

Friends little girls call theirs a "foo foo".

teameric · 11/11/2009 09:51

whats wrong with noonie????!!!

ruddynorah · 11/11/2009 09:58

vulva isn't horrible. it's what it is. vagina is on the inside, not the bit you see from the outside. same with urethra. and anus.

VengefulSinner · 11/11/2009 10:30

For me I think noonie may be winning, although it is quite toddler sounding - what about when DC's are a bit older but not quite using street crass words like pussy??

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 11/11/2009 10:36

Vulva. Honestly. What on earth is wrong with using correct terminology?

deepdarkwood · 11/11/2009 10:40

It's called 'gina (pronounced to rhyme with china) in our house - a slightly softened version of vagina (which yes, I know is not exactly right). I find all the diminuatives a bit creepy, but 'gina I can cope with.
