Naming of parts - what shall we call my dd's wotsit?

Ok I'm sure this ground has been covered in previous threads but me and DH are a bit stuck on this one. We have a 2 year old DD and need to fix on what we call her private parts. I'm all for calling it her bottom or botty - I don't feel the need to discriminate between 'front and back bottom', but DH seems to want to call front bottom something different. Obviously I know what it is like growing up as a girl so I feel I should have the casting vote - and having a 'botty' never did me any harm. Plus for some ridiculous reason, he calls her genitalia her 'wendy'. Has anyone EVER heard of this before? I don't know where he's got it from and it just makes me cringe every time I hear it, no doubt she'll pick it up very soon and then we'll be stuck with it!

So what do you think guys? Help please. I hate coy euphemisms but some are worse than others....so is it going to be botty, fanny, tush, latin terminology or what?

And how do I convince DH that 'wendy' is just the worst awful yuk euphemism ever?

Thanks all.

mini in our house. She knows the different between that and Minnie Mouse

I don't even call my own a vulva imo it's a word last used in biology lessons at school!

VoidofDiscovery · 11/11/2009 20:26

Bits in our house.

However I remember reading an Erica Jong (pretty sure it was her) essay or novel many moons ago in my heavy feminist phase where she dicussed this whole issue of naming.

She liked an old Saxon word for female genitalia:'Quim'. I think it is really nice, not widely known and without any vicious edge to it. Maybe we should start a campaign to adopt that?

ImSoNotTelling · 11/11/2009 20:28

I have heard quim used in schoolboy giggle snicker way a la pussy, snatch.

Sorry void

paisleyleaf · 11/11/2009 20:31

tinkle

hazeyjane · 11/11/2009 20:33

I think quim might have been adopted by the porn brigade.

TheFallenMadonna · 11/11/2009 20:36

DD says wee hole, poo hole and baby hole. They are all apparently located in her bottom. I am working hard to avoid the phrase 'front bottom', but as DD rightly points out, her wee hole 'is at the bottom of me'.

She is having none of the anatomical terminology either. Unlike DS, who is all about the biology.

VoidofDiscovery · 11/11/2009 20:43

I had no idea!

ImSoNotTelling · 11/11/2009 20:51

Good try thought void!

All the names for female genitalia seem to be used as insults/porno connotations. I could have a feminist rant but most words for male parts are used as insults as well... excapt willy I want a girly willy!

pispirispis · 11/11/2009 21:47

I like "gina".

juneybean · 11/11/2009 22:09

For DC we call it a foof or bottom.

wolfear · 11/11/2009 22:23

Pee pee. Don't go with Vuvla - accuarte, but bloody awful.

loc · 11/11/2009 22:40

DS (3) helpfully pointed out at DD's (1) bath time that girls don't have willies, they have bums at the front. So, although I used to hate it, front bottom does seem to be the natural choice here.
I've heard "filly" being used on this site before which seemed quite popular on that thread but doesn't work for me. I prefer vulva, it has a soft sound, not as technical sounding as vagina and no crude connotations.
Jeez, boys have it easy...willy is so standard.

We use ninnie in our house for girls bits and tinker or willy for boys bits. I think gina is a really good one though.

I have been pondering the same issue for a while. For DS it's willy or 'bits', for DD I was wondering about 'tinky'?

BikeRunSki · 12/11/2009 22:41

Friends of ours use "Wilma" - the female version of Willy! Which I rather like.

penona · 12/11/2009 23:34

I have often wondered this! DS calls it his willy, DD says, I've not got one, so calls it 'not a willy'. Which isn't terribly helpful, but at least we know what it is!

I do have a friend who uses the word wendy but for a fart not for ladies bits. That would cause some confusion with your DH!!!

We grew up calling it a Mary-Ann which was fine until MaryAnn moved in next door to us and we thought it hilarious. So agree on the not using names!

ImSoNotTelling · 13/11/2009 11:29

I quite like Wilma too

I need to make a decision soon as at the moment I am dithering like an idiot every time i direct DD to her genitals (we are potty training). Everything I have said sounds all wrong and we are all going to get confused. Also not on as other parts are just named with no fuss and i don't want her to get ideas about that area being not as definite or something (not putting that very well).

FabIsJustSoBusy · 13/11/2009 11:30

We use bottom, vagina and willy in this house.
