How many wash loads do you do a day and how many adults/kids in your family?

I generally do one wash one day and two the next, there is me dh and dd, who is in reusable nappies, so only 3 of us. Do you think this could be too many washes?

We are DH, me, 2 year old (very messy, at least 2 changes of clothes a day), 4 year old.

Ds wet the bed pretty often too.

I do at least a load a day...2 if I get behind or DS wet the bed. At least 10 loads a week I'd say.

Astrophe · 07/05/2008 21:13

Oh, we have a 5kg washer.

Quattrocento · 07/05/2008 21:14

2 adults and 2 children. There is another adult (au-pair) but they do own washing and therefore don't count.

We do around 11-12 loads a week for the family. S'alot, no?

Two of those loads are bedding, one is lingerie, two are sports kits, then there's at least a load a day, either lights or darks.

DiscoDizzy · 07/05/2008 21:21

usually 3 loads one day, 1 the next, something like that. 2 adults, 2 kids.

Quattrocento · 07/05/2008 21:22

Ahem - I feel I have unintentionally misled you all. I don't actually do any of this laundry. Laundry is a DH job. He is a star.

LittlePinkAlien · 07/05/2008 21:26

Im afraid so 2point4kids. My cats rub past them to sit on the ledge so they always seem grubby!

loler · 07/05/2008 21:31

I was having a conversation about this very topic this week. Thought I was scummy and this has confirmed it.

5 in our family, ds2 in washables. I do about 6 loads a week.

I hate washing!

loler · 07/05/2008 21:32

Wrap the cat in clingfilm

stripeymama · 07/05/2008 21:35

Me and dd, and two or three loads a week.

williamsmummy · 07/05/2008 22:34

four loads a day....................its hell here

Loshad · 07/05/2008 22:47

Depends on the weather and season here, mid winter when it's wet then i do 3/4/5 loads a day - three of the dss' play rugby 5+ times /week, and when it's sodden wet and muddy then nothing for it but a wash - no way it can be reworn for the following day, also I ride and dh cycles, same applies there, wet and muddy clothes go in the washer.
However today I only did two loads, and yesterday (and one of those was a horse rug) it's dry, rugby has finished and athletics uses less clothing and it doesn't get as dirty.
Am total slob though and only wash towels when they smell, and bedding when i remember.

WendyWeber · 07/05/2008 22:55

I did 3 today and got them all out, dry, and in again, first time this year, I am so happy (sad, but happy )

In the winter usually 1 a day, sometimes 2. 2 adults and 1 large teenager (sometimes 2).

ouryve · 07/05/2008 23:12

It varies, but usually totals about 12 a week - I have a washer dryer that seems to be on constantly. 2 adults and 2 perpetually dirty, stinky boys under 5.

Well I generally do one nappy wash a day as DD is a champion at weeing , but I do tend to put towels and the like in with them so that I have a full load. Then I do clothes every other day, but I do tend to wash things that have only been worn once and are not dirty. I will cut that out now. I do our bedding and the dogs bedding once a week.

oh god about 3 a day atm

3 dc, 2 adults

A LOT of it is dd2, who is in reusables but also possets a lot

we have a small washing machine too

I am not sure WHY we have so much washing though

ummadam · 08/05/2008 10:55

I usually do only 1 a day - sometimes 2 and always have a "day off" from washing - generally rotating like this....

nappies
light wash
dark wash
none
nappies, bed stuff and towels (big wash day - 2/3 washes)
light wash
dark wash

...unless something unusual happens like poo exposion!

me (maternity leave) ds (4months) and hubby (works all day)

I expect it will change as ds gets older and I go back to work...

littlerach · 08/05/2008 11:03

Agree with Riven.
we do about 4 a week, with dh and me, and 2 dds.
Stuff doesn't get washe dunless it is dirty/smelly.
Washing basket is rarely empty, but also never overflowing.

Are any of you on water meters? Does it cost a fortune?

bozza · 08/05/2008 11:15

We do approximately one a day, sometimes two on Fridays which is bedding day, sometimes miss a day. For two adults, two children, DS very messy, usually mud on school trousers. We were away at the weekend, so I did none Saturday or Sunday, then one on Monday when we got back, two on Tuesday, one yesterday, tonight will do towels, tomorrow bedding and some clothes if enough to justify. There is a tendency to try to keep up though when the weather is so lovely for drying.

OrmIrian · 08/05/2008 11:17

I do 6 a week. For 2 adults and 3 DCs. And we usually look and smell clean.

fryalot · 08/05/2008 11:18

I do about one a day.

2 adults, 3 children here.

Sometimes I miss a day, but then I have two to do the next day.

NotABanana · 08/05/2008 13:32

I have done 4 today.
1 nappies
1 whites
1 darks
1 all shorts and tshirts for DS2 that have been packed away.

spokette · 08/05/2008 13:47

Dh, 4yo twin boys and me.

4 loads a week.

2 dark

2 whites

plus I wash sheets every couple of weeks so that will be another load every couple of weeks.

Can't believe how much washing some of you do!

SoupKitchen · 08/05/2008 13:50

One load a day and that covers bedding and towels once a week for 2 adults and 2 DC

itsahardknocklife · 08/05/2008 13:55

I do three a day for 2 adults and 1 kid. I have a bit of a problem with washing things though as I enjoy it. Strange, I know!
